Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I hope this plow-truck driver experiences months of restless nights over this. Grow a pair and be a man! Cleveland cops shoot man with a Taser after he hops into driver's seat of a squad car CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland police shot a 36-year-old man with a stun gun in the driver's seat of a police cruiser after a violent fight with his girlfriend, according to a police report. * * * * * The woman lost control on the snow-covered road and crashed into a traffic control box at the intersection of East 30th Street from Payne Avenue. Richards appeared at her window within seconds. He grabbed a jack from the bed of the truck and smashed the window, spraying broken glass into the cab. A plow truck approached, distracting Richards long enough for the woman to escape. She ran to the plow to ask for help, but the driver wouldn't let her in. Richards came from behind, grabbed her by the neck and threw her to the snow-covered pavement. He started punching her. A police sergeant was about a block away when dispatchers broadcast that a man was in the road beating a woman. He pulled up and saw the woman clinging to the plow and Richards punching her in the face. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/11/cleveland_cops_shoot_man_with.html

My wife told me she was on 90E in the Cleveland area this morning and there were signs that the highway is closed at the NY border. I couldn't imagine 6 feet. I don't think I have even seen more than 1.5ft with my own eyes...... and I've lived in Cleveland for most of my life. Even the legendary storm of '78 (when I was a newborn, so I wouldn't remember) only brought us 15 inches. Is that 6 feet actual precipitation levels or is that measured with snow drifts in mind?

^I have no problem with that move. He had to be problematic in the locker room based on just the clues we got from his statements to the media. He didn't seem to like it here, anyways. Definitely not a cold weather guy. He will pull a Braylon Edwards and Greg Little by talking sh!te about the team/city as the door hits him on the arse..... mark my words on that.

Denver really needed that win last night. It is becoming cliché to keep hearing it, but it is so true that we get our opponents best punch each and every game. Darrell Arthur made three 3pt shots? Really? The turnovers also really hurt us. A few times, we simply tried to get too cute with the pass. Anytime LeBron and Kyrie combine for 8 turnovers, we will have a hard time winning. That said, if we would've hit a few of the wide open shots we missed, it is a different game. Everyone not named LeBron, Kyrie, Kevin, and Dion shot a combined 5-20 last night. Not gonna cut it, even when those four combine for 82 points.

^I'm not sure why the writer is surprised that Pittsburgh doesn't have an NBA team. It's the same reason Cleveland doesn't have an NHL team.

Most data suggests Cleveland gets about 55-60 total for the entire year. But it really depends on where you live in the MSA. West side gets significantly less snow than the east side and the counties to the east of Cuyahoga get a ton more snow. Anywhere lake level (i.e. Euclid) gets more snow than areas which are on the plateau above lake level (i.e. Mayfield Heights) But, as I mentioned upthread, it is not odd at all when any given City which gets less snow on a yearly basis gets pounded harder on any given day. That happens quite routinely as we rarely get more than a few inches on any given day...... whereas it might not snow for an entire month in another city and then one foot comes down in a few hours.

Cleveland area car mechanic?
Not west side, but for those who might find this thread later due to the generic topic and want to know, I would have a few recommendations on the east side. Two would be the shops owned by the Weeks brothers. Both were head mechanics at Motorcars Toyota/Honda in Cleveland Heights before breaking off to open their own shop, Alternative Car Care Solutions on Mayfield Rd. A year or two ago, one of the brothers decided to set up his own shop, Weeks Automotive, on Warrensville. The other recommendation would be Exceleration Inc on SOM Center Road in Mayfield Village. All three shops specialize in foreign cars. The first two really have a focus on Hondas and Toyotas. The last works on just about any foreign vehicle. None of them are the cheapest mechanics, but they are less than the dealership, and just like about anything in life, you get what you pay for.

MLS: General News & Discussion
Smart money is probably on cities which don't have baseball teams, and/or growing markets which are generally lacking in pro sports. Nashville, Charlotte, San Antonio, Orlando, OKC, Indianapolis, Richmond/Va Beach, Raleigh, etc.

Front seven is now officially decimated. Phil gone for the season. Bryant gone for the season. Rubin battling injury. Mingo playing with one arm. Hughes out. Jabaal possibly hurt. Dansby looking like he will miss some significant time. I love Crowell, but I can see why the scouts were skeptical about his success in the NFL. He has a lot of problems changing direction. Does anybody else notice him waiving his arms to catch his balance whenever he does try to make a cut or stop himself from going out of bounds? That said, I think they should stick with him as the primary back due to the way his downhill running style fits the zone blocking scheme. Terrell Davis certainly did not have the best hips.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
ESPN (Stein) is reporting that both the Cavs and the Rockets are in 'active trade' talks involving Minnesota SG/SF Corey Brewer. He is a lock down wing defender who is good in transition (he was on he receiving end of a lot of KLove outlets in Minny). Both teams have trade exceptions which would allow the trade to be made without including any players on their roster. As much sense as Brewer makes for us, I have this sneaking suspicion that our 'involvement' in these trade talks is nothing more than Dan Gilbert tying up some loose end of the handshake deal he made with Glen Taylor before the KLove trade could be consummated...... by driving up the price Minny can demand from Houston. If we did get Brewer without giving up anything of significance, I wonder where he would fit into the rotation. He could potentially start at the 2, but then where do you find minutes for all of Marion, Dion, Harris, Delly, Miller, etc? Good problem to have, I guess. I would definitely love to add him to this team. His length and quickness on the perimeter would bring a lot to our squad.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Jalin Marshall must be confused how to feel this morning. He had both his best game and his worst game as a Buckeye on the same day. As great as he was filling in for Wilson (in fact, he looked better than Wilson has ever looked in that role), but those two fumbles nearly gave Minny the window it needed to get back in that game.

Dion looked fine and in the flow last night with 9pts, 8assts, and 4stls. His shot was not 'on' so he went into playmaking mode and really whipped the ball around the court. He would've had more points, but he continues to get hosed by the refs with no-calls when he gets hacked on his drives to the hoop, probably because he keeps yelling at them. Great to see the team truly open a can on a very quality opponent last night. It certainly helps when you set an NBA record* by going 9-9 on threes in the first quarter (*most 3's without a miss in any quarter). We played our best defense of the season too. But what was perhaps the most impressive aspect of the victory IMO was the 39 assists on 49 FGs. During the current 4 game winning streak, the Cavs are averaging just under 120ppg

Dion's issues with staying on the court this year have more to do with defensive lapses than shortcomings on offense.

Great win last night, coming back from 18 down in the fourth. Interesting observation was Joe Harris playing the crunch time minutes at SG, nearly the entire 4th quarter. Word is that Marion is essentially a placeholder in the starting lineup and Joe is pegged to be our starter at the 2

^Out for the year. Ouch. That's a big blow to our defense, no pun intended. Phil doesn't show up too often on the stat sheet, but his ability to hold the point of attack against two blockers at the same time, and generally just cause a log jam at the line of scrimmage, is invaluable. Winn will step in and will have more 'sexy' plays (sacks, TFLs, etc) but Phil's absence will be felt.... albeit maybe not very noticeable to the casual fan

^Cities that get more snow are a LOT better at clearing it. People who regularly drive in the snow are also a lot better at it. Remember Atlanta last year? That snow-pocalypse they got which shut down the whole City is just 'a mild dusting' for Geauga County. I stay fairly active in the winter, or at least try to. The heat (especially when combined with high humidity) just saps me. I really upgraded my winter wardrobe last year with quality base layers, several pairs of insulated work-type pants (the Lee/Wrangler store at the Lodi outlet malls is a great place to find those, BTW), and snow pants for when it really gets extreme or the kids want to go sledding. A friend of mine who regularly works outside also gave me a pair of 'Mickey Mouse boots' so my feet stay super dry and warm. I highly recommend investing in a pair of those. My shepherd/mastiff mix was like a kid in a candy store yesterday. He would take this weather 365 days out of the year if he had his choice.

Same way you deal with that Ohio Valley heat/humidity. Your skin thickens up and you grow more accustomed to it. But we certainly got nowhere near 36 inches. I can't remember ever getting that much snowfall at once. Although our snow is more steady due to the lake effect, We typically don't get those huge Nor'easter type storms which cause more than a foot of snow to drop. Usually, it is no more than 2-6 inches at a time. A big snowstorm in November is also somewhat rare. Last year, we got a really rare one in October before the leaves fell and that was devastating due to the damage it caused. But a lot of winters, we don't get a significant snow until closer to x-mas. January and February are the months that we get most of our snow. As annoying as it might be to some, I have kids, so it is not depressing for me at all seeing all the fun they have. My son just told me yesterday when it snowed that Winter is his favorite season.

Fashion Police
I think fashion reached its extreme in the mid to late 80's and very early 90's. Since then, 'pushing the envelope' has died down quite a bit. As for the youth, things haven't changed much in the past 20 or so years. Still a bunch of rich kids spending a lot of money trying not to look rich and a bunch of poor kids spending a lot of money trying not to look poor.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Where does it end? Suppose they had the funds for and designed a wider bridge. People would then be calling it half-assed based on the materials used..... or the fact it is not covered..... or that the design is not iconic enough..... and where are the sculptures carved out of marble lining the walkway? What makes you think that the desire to build it prior to the RNC is the determinative factor in its cost? If we waited, are we suddenly going to find more $$ to throw at the project. I imagine that there was a lot of discussion deliberation about how much $$ would be dedicated to construction of this bridge. Several consideration surely came into play. I would bet that there is a bridge that could be built for $10 million or less and I bet there is a bridge that could be built for $100 million or more. What we have hear is a design based on a pre-determined budget for the project. If we can do better within that budget, I'd be fully on board with the complaints. But I don't see any evidence of that. You are talking about one of those hamster tubes? That wouldn't be popular on here. I also imagine it might be an engineering nightmare. You are talking about digging under heavy rail tracks and a highway..... and through what is basically landfill
