Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Oh no..... another pedestrian death trap in downtown! ;) I kid.... Seriously, though, as I think was mentioned upthread, High Line in NYC was built on top of EXISTING infrastructure. That makes a huge difference in terms of the overall cost of the project. I imagine that we determined a budget for the project and these are the designs which Rosales estimates can fall within that budget. Absent some unforeseen private donations being earmarked for this project, it's largely a waste of time to debate what could be with unlimited resources. As for the termination point, why not the RRHOF? It is our most visited attraction and a good center point for everything people head towards at lake level

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
The cable-stayed design is my favorite. I'm glad it is considered the early front-runner. As for the concerns some have raised about protection from the elements in the colder months, Litt posted the following in the comments section: "Thanks for commenting. Windscreens are proposed, but there's a tradeoff in terms of higher cost of maintenance. With glass or clear acrylic screens you'd need frequent cleaning to prevent etching, staining and what birds leave behind."

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Yeah.... it is definitely the same guy. I remember reading the article a few years back about the plans for one in OC and wondered why that never came to fruition. From what I recall, he was insistent on not "Americanizing" the food.... to the point where some people might be a bit grossed out. I also recall visions of live music and a very Mediterranean feel/vibe to the place.

I'm looking forward to taking my in-laws, who are both immigrants from Greece, there next time they come in to town. Might offer a better taste of the homeland than the Mad Greek

Ohio Voting / Voter ID Law
The tallies are in nationwide. Only 36% of eligible voters cast a ballot in this year's midterms, the lowest percentage in over 70 years.

Ok. I get it. And I just want to compliment you by saying you aren't as completely as shitty of a poster today as you have been in recent memory. Don't be mad. It's a compliment!

^Nice. If the members of this board are any indication, they must teach that kind of not-so-subtle underhanded 'smack' in Cincy elementary schools :) It will take a few weeks, I suppose. Until then, deep, calm breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth while gently rubbing the pressure points around the earlobes should help.

What's the big deal? Sharpening your mustache is now legal in at least three states and D.C.

Two things of note from tonight. Dirk passed Hakeem Olajuwon to become the all time scoring leader among international players. Kobe become the all time leader in FG misses

^plus 22 rebounds and 21 assists. Kyrie, btw, has only one turnover in each of his last four games.

^No..... but the second tier sites (PBT, Basketball Insiders, etc) all saw the value in the bait and spread it through the twitter-verse, with the caveat that they thought it was unrealistic (but still worth reading!)

US Economy: News & Discussion
I think the bigger problem, and a skewing of the numbers, comes from the amount of young people who went to college because the economy sucked or because it was what was expected of them, incurred a bunch of debt, but never graduated. I'm amazed by how many people I find with 2-3 years of college but no degree.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
GREAT game last night. The Pelicans came in shooting the lights out..... on fire from downtown. It is hard to stay with a team which is shooting like the hoop is 10 feet wide, and with a player (Ryan Anderson) who is having one of those games he might have once or twice in the entire season. Last year's team would have gone down by 20 and folded. This team never let NO get away with the lead and made some fantastic runs to steal the show in the end. Each of the Big 3 took turns being dominant. Kyrie was at his best. LeBron was fantastic, although he still looks somewhat limited due to his back. Love played solid, but he can be even better (only 5 rebounds). He had a tough draw, as AD is going to give PFs fits in this league for years to come. I'm loving what I'm seeing out of TT in short stretches. He is using his energy really well and it seems like he actually improved his vertical a bit. Kid is soaring for those dunks and rebounds. NO's top 6 (Asik, AD, Evans, Gordon, Holiday, Anderson) can play with any team in this league. If they get more bench help and can stay healthy, watch out. What you hear is the sound of a Bulls beat writer sending out click-bait........ and boy did he get the fish to bite. His website/advertisers are happy with him. Tomorrow it will be that LeBron wants to join Carmelo in NY courtesy of Frank Isola.

It's just a lot of noise IMO. If the frothing hatred was that strong, the retailers would not be open. They play to market forces, and market forces are telling them to be open. If people want them closed, don't scream about it on the internet....... the more powerful statement is to stay home, even if it means you miss out on the Black Friday deal.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Cincy will come looking for blood at CBS. Typically, however, that is not a good road team and we have had way more success at home against them than our other two divisional opponents...... way, way more. The good news is that we should have Gordon, Cameron, and Hawkins back for that game and won't have to rely on a bunch of rookies and former undrafted free agents to provide our offensive punch. Cincy, otoh, might have their two top LBs and Leon Hall back for that game. I'd pick us to win at this point, but it will be much more competitive....... or, better put probably, it will be competitive this time. Buffalo is a must win given us having their 1st rounder. The Chief pulled it out yesterday, dropping the Bills to 5-4. They are notorious for not playing well on the back 8 games of the season, so we can hope they lose 5-7 more games and finish with a top 10 pick as many expected when the season started. We owe Baltimore one. I would love to see a blowout in their home stadium to go with our rompings of Cincy and Pittsburgh this year. Indy is going to be tough. Their is no way around that. Not a good matchup for us IMO.

First of all, I am not one who calls it an abomination or whatever. But, in your example of gas station workers, it would depend. At least some gas stations are closed on holidays. Others are owned by the person behind the counter. Others are indeed 24/7/365 businesses which are likely very upfront with their employees about holiday hours and/or provide the type of extra compensation I mentioned above. You really can't look at anything in a vacuum. I have off for memorial day as does most everyone else, but Home Depot employees don't. That's probably one of the biggest days of the year for HD, as everyone is starting their spring clean-up and yardwork. Same goes for gas stations along the highways with all of the travelers depending on them being open. I don't know what the exact outrage is with retail and Thanksgiving, but I can certainly understand the argument that retailers lose out on a lot of money when they close on the Thanksgiving...... but that would be even more reason to give the workers the type of extra pay where they would gladly skip to work, no?

I certainly don't get up in arms about the topic, but it's not apples-to-apples when comparing retail workers to professions in which it is known going in that your 'shop' is going to be open 24/7/365. Police officers and firefighters know when they are hired that they are going to work holidays, but they also know that they are going to get 'holiday pay' for those days they work, such as thanksgiving or xmas. That pay can be as much as 2x the regular rate. Do Best Buy workers get any bump in pay on the holidays? If they did, I imagine Best Buy would have no problem finding willing workers.

Ohio Smoking Ban
I would vote for a ban on overwhelmingly strong perfumes and colognes in public. I've been in a few elevators recently where I wished someone would light up just to cover up that smell.

Cleveland: Looking for Open/Pick-Up Indoor Basketball
I imagine you can find pick-up games at just about any JCC or Y in the area. But you might also want to look into some adult rec leagues. Euclid runs (or used to run) a good rec league I played in shortly after college (Rich Paul used to play in this league). I played in the 6 feet and under league, although many of us were a good bit over 6 feet. I am 6'2 (in shoes ;)) and one of my teammates was close to 6'4.

Ohio Smoking Ban
I think he was saying that it is no guarantee. That's true. In fact, although this is not the PSA which is usually pushed on us...... no matter how much you smoke or drink, you eating habits, your exercise routine, the amount you sleep, your stress level, etc..... the #1 determinative factor in longevity is genes. If several people in your family have died of lung cancer (or any form of cancer) you need to be much more wary about smoking than somebody who has a family full of 70 somethings who still smoke a pack a day. No guarantees either way, of course.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
I doubt Mayor Jackson would be making any such 'surprise' announcement. Don't get your hopes up. It surely has to do with something that is heavily controlled by the public sector, such as Public Square. Besides, if it was any game-changer, Michelle would have already scooped it.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
It's been a down decade for the Big Ten Both Baylor and TCU probably have a more impressive resume, but it is impossible to tell if that will be the case at the end of the year. If the status quo remains, OSU would not jump either based on their losses. Baylor lost a road game at a decent WVU team. TCU lost a very close road game to Baylor. OSU lost at home to an unranked VaTech...... a game they would easily win if played at this point of the season, but counts as a loss..... a bad loss..... nonetheless
