2014 Gubernatorial Election
Excerpt from the Rolling Stone article posted here - http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,18785.3360.html Brownback hardly stands alone among the class of Republican governors who managed to get themselves elected four years ago as part of the anti-Obama Tea Party wave by peddling musty supply-side fallacies. In Ohio, Gov. John Kasich – whose press releases claim he's wrought an "Ohio Miracle" – has presided over a shrinking economy, this past July being the 21st consecutive month in which the state's job growth has lagged behind the national average.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
^^Yes. I really do believe that he is not a partisan hack. ^I guess we will just have to wait for those "common sense reforms" to be spelled out...... and wait...... and wait...... and wait. It shouldn't take longer than another 50 or so years. The bottom line message to me, as taken from the panic attack the Kasich campaign had when the AP story came out, is that you can forget about pragmatism and common-sense when it comes to health care reform. How long has it been and we still can't have an 'adult conversation' on the topic due to all the vitriol and fear-mongering? The pre-existing condition coverage was the big one..... the issue which we desperately needed reform. That isn't going away. No one is that heartless now that those people have coverage. The individual mandate was, simply put, a 'necessary evil' (for lack of a better term) included to allow the private insurance market to survive. Kasich understands that, I'm sure. He can't admit it, but he understands it. If those who hate the ACA don't like the conservative model and would prefer to go with a more liberal reform, I'm sure the other side would not fight them.

I'm not a huge Josh Perry fan. Very strong, but he seems a little stiff. His snaps should be limited unless we are playing smash-mouth teams like Wisconsin and Iowa. Lee is the kind of the opposite. He is great in coverage and rushing the passer, but not so great at holding the point of attack. I do, however, see the potential in Lee to become a 3-down LB.

Speaking of LBs, I'm glad that the coaching staff finality put the upperclassmen favoritism aside and came to the realization that true freshman Raekwon McMillian is an absolute beast....... he needs to stay on the field for every snap.

2014 Gubernatorial Election
Too late. Damage done. He will serve a full term. That said, I would be very interested in a specific answer (not dumbed down talking points and meaningless platitudes) to what he would replace it with. Most of the more pragmatic opponents of the law, as I assume Kasich is, would tell you (with a gun to the head) that they are in favor of most every material part of the law....... Medicaid expansion, protection for people with pre-existing conditions, raising the age for which young adults can be covered under their parents insurance, and even some form of an individual mandate to guarantee the 'makers' are not paying for the 'takers'

The Bulls were using the man guarding Andy to double team our stars. Andy moves too well to do that. He found the openings and his teammates found him. He also has developed one of the best mid-range set shots (he doesn't have a 'jumper') in the entire league. He is nearly automatic if left open from 10-15 feet. What has blown me away this preseason is that mini-sky-hook he is using when guarded with his back to the basket. Kyrie wears a full arm sleeve. Dion also has a darker complexion. That's how I do it. But it is getting tougher now that Dion has slimmed down a bit. Ha. Tyrone is one of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Tristan is not a 'dog' for sure. But he definitely added some muscle and strength. Just look at his shoulders compared to last year. It has been evident with his ability to go up through the defender to finish the shots which he was routinely having blocked earlier in his career. He also rag-doll tossed a Heat player down in Brazil when they were fighting for the ball. FWIW, Kyrie was yelling at Tristan, not the entire team. Those two had a miscommunication which forced the timeout. They kissed and made up in no time. Re the alley-opp.... are you talking about the one at the end of the game? I was impressed with his ups on that one. He did, however, nearly miss the dunk as it seemed the ball slipped out of his hands as he was about to throw it down and glanced off the rim on the way through the basket. I wonder if Tristan has problems palming a basketball. That is not unheard of for someone his height. Durant can't palm a bball.

John Huntsman would like to welcome Kasich to his rare breed of GOP presidential hopefuls, homo unelectable "That's not gonna happen," Kasich reportedly told the AP when asked about a repeal of Obamacare, something many GOP candidates for president and Congress favor. "The opposition to it was really either political or ideological," Kasich added, again, as the AP cast it, presumably talking about Obamacare as a whole. "I don't think that holds water against real flesh and blood, and real improvements in people's lives." http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2014/10/gov_john_kasich_still_wants_to.html Well.... at least we know he is not going to bail on us in 2 years.- Cleveland Cavs Discussion
'Dress rehearsal against the Bulls last night in Columbus. Cavs won by 10..... would've been more if DRose did not go bananas during a few stretches of the game. He finished with 30 points in 24 minutes..... certainly with the help of shooting 80% from 3, which he will probably never do again. Kyrie had 28pts, 7 assts.... Lebron finished with 16pts, 8 assists, and 7 rebounds..... KLove had 8pts and 13rebs...... Andy was fantastic with 22pts, 8rebs. A few insights: - The Cavs' big men more than held their own against Chicago's formidable front line. We controlled the boards for most of the game and didn't get pushed around at all. - I think we can count on an offensive explosion from one or more of LeBron, KLove, Kyrie, or Dion each night. Every preseason game, we have seen one of those guys come close to a point per minute - Andy started at C - Off the bench were Delly, Tristan, and Marion playing significant minutes....... Miller did some spot duty. I think that is our 9 man rotation to start the season. - This team wants to run at every opportunity - Chicago will be as good as advertised..... so long as DRose can stay healthy- 2014 Gubernatorial Election

^I'd bet the farm that if you did a survey of violent offenders in prison, you would find that the majority of their parents "kicked their behinds" when they were kids. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2771618/. I never quite understood this implication that incidents like this happen because the kids were not hit enough. I would presume it is quite the opposite.- 2014 Gubernatorial Election
^^Why would I do that? First, I am not a "Dem"..... I'm a Freedomistismitarian (Big "F" that is.... and you only disagree with me because you hate freedom). Second, I've already stated more than once that I plan to vote for Kasich. As shocking as it might seem to some people...... I, for one, vote on merit, not party line. Kasich has done nothing to lose the job and Fitzgerald does not excite me at all. Regardless, how are you going to compare the two? One took over when the State was already in a recession and then had to finish out his term during the worst economic period in the country, which hit Ohio particularly hard, since the Great Depression. The other essentially took over the reins when the state AND the nation were both on the road to recovery. Totally different circumstances. Not comparable at all.- Moderators
Not at all - https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=Yuppie Yuppie (short for "young urban professional" or "young upwardly-mobile professional") is a term that refers to a member of the upper middle class or upper class in their 20s or 30s. It first came into use in the early 1980s. I suppose one could be a 'yuppie' and a 'hipster' at the same time...... but, typically, I think of hipsters as being found in non-suit-and-tie settings. In the tech world, I guess they make just as money showing up for work in jeans and disturbingly skin tight corduroys as does the banker wearing a three-piece.- Moderators
I thought it was kinda heavy on the yuppies.... not so much the hipsters. There is still a difference, right?- Moderators

^Typically, they don't use guns to snatch candy bags now either. This is an extreme case. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if it was not a real gun.- Cleveland Browns Discussion
I guess Agnew must've had a really bad game. He was released today and we promoted some rook off the practice squad. I think yesterday was a combo of things. We had plenty of chances to win that game. The final score is not really indicative of that, but Jax scored all those points in the 4th when we were pressing. Jax's front seven on D had a great game and our O-line had their worst of the season. It is going to take the line awhile to recover from losing their 'quarterback'. Our D-line was terribly thin with Rubin, Phil, Winn, and ABryant all out. Skrine had an awful game, but I thought the defense on the whole played relatively well. There is simply no excuse for losing to a rookie QB who throws 3 picks. The offense was out of rhythm. Hoyer's timing was off. The WRs need to make a few of those spectacular catches (like the one Cameron dropped when he was falling down) and it might've been a different game. Also, I would be curious as to the thought process of leaving TWest in the game in short yardage situations. He is not the RB I would trust to make sure we got the first down. This is one of those games where I might be hesitant to even watch the tape if I was in charge.- 2014 Gubernatorial Election
Why don't you do it? I've never claimed that the State's economy was roaring along with Strickland in office. I didn't even like Strickland. All I was saying, and you still have yet to find anything to refute it, is that if you are going to claim that Ohio's economy is improving, then you must also agree that the nation's economy is improving. That's as simple as saying the sky is blue and water is wet. Agreed? No amount of cheerleading and cherry-picking stats can lead you to any other conclusion. - 2014 Gubernatorial Election
