Cleveland Browns Discussion
I wonder if the wind might have done something wacky with that ball. Benjamin blamed the wind on not fair catching that last punt, saying it got caught in a few gusts and he couldn't adjust, allowing the ball to roll down to the 4. Something similar could have happened with Gabriel. Hoyer has a good arm, but not a cannon that is going to be able to completely cut through the Lake Erie winds. One major home field advantage for us with Kosar was his sidearm release and low trajectory, even through it resulted in more batted down passes at the line in all likelihood. Anyone who has sat in the upper bowl can tell you that the wind is stronger the higher you are up in the stadium.

I think they can find better use of their spare time. That said, we do have a new one downtown and I'd rent a room if Starwood is game.

Ohio: GDP List & News
^For this metric, I'm not sure how much it would matter. Most of the large CSA's are much more similar to the MSA than Greater Cleveland, no? That said, with Greater Cleveland being the 15th most populated CSA in the country, I'm not sure that a ranking of 19th on the GDP is all that much to pound your chest about.

There also could be an amortization period applicable to the non-conforming use. Putting all that aside, wouldn't the owner still have to get approval for the non-conforming use, regardless of whether it is 'grandfathered'? In that case, it would be more of a formality, but maybe still required as a matter of process? I honestly don't know.

My guess is that some neighbor raised the issue of the lot's non-conformance to the City. Probably the Brewery, based on the above.

Josh Gordon is in that class (if not at the top of it) on talent alone and certainly was the most productive of the bunch last year, putting aside his off field "issues" Antonio Brown is quickly entering the conversation, and might be the best pound for pound

@AlexKennedyNBA: The Cavs are the most popular road team in the NBA this year, per study by TickPick. CLE road tickets cost $411.17, tops in the NBA by $130.

I can't imagine that any part of the waterfront downtown would be "privatized". I would be absolutely shocked if that were to happen.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
^Absolutely. They have been losing the ST battle at critical times. Botched snaps, blocked kicks, not fair catching that last punt, failing to down the ball inside the 20 against Pittsburgh, etc. Another major issue I see is the failure of the defense (particularly the OLB) to contain the edge on the running plays. I also think that the switch of Rubin and Taylor has not produced a net positive result. Put Phil back in the middle and Rubin back out at DE, where they both played very well last year.

^^Joe doesn't choose the coverage scheme. In the coverage he was in yesterday on that play, he was supposed to protect the short routes and guard underneath on the big plays. The play call might have been a little questionable, but you have to consider the context of when it happened. Baltimore had the ball at midfield with 2 minutes to play. Ideally, they would want to dink and dunk their way into field goal range, burning the clock during the process, and not risk trying to put one over the top. The coaching staff put all three of our CBs up on the line in press coverage. You do that to take away the quick slants and try to slow the WR down enough to allow the pass rush to get to the QB. But when you do that, it is absolutely critical that the safety protect against the big play over the top. Even if that happens, there still is always that little window that the QB can slip the ball in between the CB and the Safety if he hits his WR in stride, which Flaco did. I just so happened to be watching the game yesterday with a guy who has three super bowl rings playing DB for the 'Niners. Right when that play happened, he said that Whitner was late. As for big plays against Haden late in the games, he has been victimized a few times. He also has his fair share of big plays at the end of games. I recall one play his second year where he wasn't lined up on AJ Green for whatever reason and was burned for a TD, but that was after he shut AJ down for nearly the entire game. I remember another game, the same season I believe, where AJ Green made a catch that only him and about 3 other WRs in the league can make. The other ones I can recall were, for the most part, simply perfectly executed pass plays. Some of you seem to fail to realize that for a CB to make a great play, quite often the timing of the pass needs to be off, even if only slightly...... that is more true than ever with these new rules. There will be no more "Revis Island" type of seasons because they don't let the CBs play like that anymore. The only guy I can remember being able to blanket NFL WRs without getting physical with them was Deon Sanders and I doubt we ever see another cover CB as good as him.

That was the WR route. The coverage was a cover 2 press. If you want to fault Haden, it would be that he didn't get enough of a jam at the line. But he was one step behind on coverage, not 3. If the ball was the slightest bit underthrown he could have got his hand on it. It went right past his fingertips. He may have long arms but there not long enough to do that when he is three steps behind. The concern with the coverage is that Whitner was three or more steps late. If you wanna talk about overpaid, look no further. I haven't seen that guy make one play in coverage yet. You saw Joe twice yesterday. Once when he was picked on the cross route and once on that last drive. CBs are like LTs. The less you hear their name called during a game the better they are probably playing

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I like it too. But he is not much of a "rim protector". He's a 'motor' guy, whose motor has some serious wear and tear on it. He's an insurance policy in case of injury to one of our big men in the regular rotation. Honestly, there is no guarantee he even makes the team.

A few tidbits: - We have apparently signed Lou Amundson. He is a hustle guy.... somewhat of a 'middle-class man's' Andy Varejao. The reality of it is he is 6 fouls on the bench to burn anytime we need it. - The new LeBron billboard has been approved for the Sherwin Williams building. - Not only has LeBron "returned" this summer, apparently so has a good bit of his hairline.

The uniform will probably change. The helmet will not, aside from some slight change in the tone of the orange (as shown above) or the dimensions of the stripes (as suggested above). The SH!tstain on the back ain't happening. Hallam has already said that a uniform redesign will not involve the helmet

I'm all for some tweaks to the uniform to modernize, but the helmet is untouchable

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Mendo's comment to the announcement, at least how I took it, was that there has been no positive economic news in the City outside of apartments. If he meant no big ticket positive economic news, such as a large corporate HQ relocating to the City, nobody can argue with that. But the lack of any big ticket item, doesn't mean that there has been an utter lack of positive economic news outside of apartments. A positively changing economic trajectory is apparent, even if that trajectory might still be pointed slightly downward (which I don't know that it is). The growth in the biotech industries and rebound of local manufacturing is positive economic news. The boost in convention business, not to mention the RNC, is positive economic news. Hell, the return of LeBron is positive economic news. Just like his buddy Jay-Z, he's not a businessman, he's a business... man. And, of course, the demand for apartment consistently outpacing development, creating massive spillover benefits for the City, is positive economic news. I certainly don't in any way claim this is a 'boomtown', but the big picture (metro GDP being one of the better indicators) doesn't look too bleak.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
^I must've missed that very clear point out of the gate. "Getting pretty sick of these stories. When will we start seeing positive economic news that doesn't involve apartments?" On second read, I'm still missing it. He's commenting on an article which is reporting on jobs moving from the City to the burbs. I assumed (incorrectly somehow apparently) that he was lamenting such a move. If all he wanted to see was a net gain, that would've been much easier. Just look at the metro's GDP growth which was just posted in another thread. Here's your net gain - http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,29622.0.html
