The Damon Jones story of driving LBJ to the airport and staying with him in the week leading up the Decision has been around for years. This is nothing new.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
I am sure the City is going to press for the highest possible charges against anyone they were actually able to wrangle up. The problem is that many of these kids are not adults, and the ones that are will be facing felony aggravated rioting charges which will be sent to the County. In mass chaos situations, it is very difficult to get solid charges on anyone since the cops #1 priority is to diffuse the situation and a very distant second is to try to actually determine and apprehend the violent offenders. The vast majority of the kids are simply standing around wanting to see a fight. Most you can get on them is obstructing official business or refusal to follow a lawful order or possibly disorderly conduct. Those charges won't get you much. You want the ones actually engaged in the fighting, but that is a difficult job when dispersing a crowd of hundreds is the number one priority. What really is needed is statewide legislation somehow dealing with the issue of flash-mobs..... but I don't know if that is practical due to the extremely slippery slope it would cause. It is a very tough issue, but one we are going to have to deal with in this day and age when creating a flash-mob at events like this is done so easily

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Keep in mind that Uptown is not a reinvention of an old neighborhood, like we've seen happen in our other more popular hoods. It rose out of the asphalt and is going to have some serious growing pains. The influx of new residents once construction is complete will help, as will a year of CWRU students getting to enjoy it without construction barricades and hazards.

UPDATE - James Jones agrees to a 1yr deal at the veteran minimum. Another veteran shooter. I don't expect him to be part of the rotation, but he is a nice alternative should Miller miss any games. Also, here is a good 1-on-1 interview with Kyrie post him agreeing to an extension and The Return - http://www.nba.com/cavaliers/video/2014/07/16/140716irving1on1mp4-3329475/. One of my neighbors is a class parent. Admission price, wristbands, and a perimeter are being actively discussed. But, to be clear, the actual issues which led to arrests occurred outside the carnival. The carnival itself was just fine from what she told me

Cleveland: Downtown: Office Tower & Ferrari Showroom
Sheesh.... it was just a suggestion people. But I wasn't envisioning a dealership... moreso a 'world-class' showroom. Something iconic, which would be a tourist attraction in its own right. And, for the record, some of us like the image. You might view Harley as nothing more than 'smokestacks and hardhats' but I know more than a few white-collar professionals, here in Cleveland, that ride one. VERY-well-to-do professionals. It's a brand that transcends the classes wealth divides us into. You may prefer the symbolism of a Ferrari, but not me. To me, Ferrari screams mid-life crisis uber rich divorcee with a Florida tan and the top four buttons of his shirt undone. When I said Harley is much more Cleveland, I wasn't in any way saying we weren't good enough or rich enough for Ferrari. My thought process was that Cleveland is cool in the way that Harley is cool. Ferrari is cool in the way that Orange County is cool. I also worry that a Ferrari showroom is not something they would appreciate you just walking into. It might end up being nothing more than a bunker in which the passing public is relegated to being the kid from Christmas Story gazing through the glass at the toy he wants.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Right. I wasn't clear. You can't trade a NEW addition to your roster who you just signed. It's a rule meant to protect the players. Suppose Player X wanted to pay for Team Y, which has the cap room to sign him. Team Y doesn't really want Player X, but knows that Team Z does. Player X doesn't want to play for Team Z and won't sign with them. So Team Y signs him and then turns right around and trades him to the team he refused to sign with. Sign and trades are also complicated, as they require the player's consent, but you can indeed sign your own player and trade him to another team He can help by knocking down the 3 like he did all 82 games for Memphis last year. He was a key piece of their rotation, as he was for Miami previously. He's one of those "you can't have too many Mike Miller" players on your team. He has good size, he shoots well, and he is a decent rebounder for a swing player. He can play both the 2 and the 3. But again, most importantly, he brings that veteran presence to the locker room. Consider the age of our roster.... Miller - 34 Haywood - 34 Varejao - 31 LeBron - 29 and then you have...... Thompson - 23 Dellanedova - 23 Felix - 23 Irving - 22 Waiters - 22 Harris - 22 Powell - 22 Bennett - 21 Wiggins - 19 As presently constituted, our roster has an average age of 25 years old. Which means we've actually gotten YOUNGER than we were last year, when we finished the season with an average age of 26.2 years old. We need to complete our 15 man roster with a few more vets.

You can't trade a guy you just signed. There is something like a 6 month waiting period per the CBA. He will definitely help. Durability is a concern. He played all 82 games last year, but that is rare for him. We needed him as a veteran on the team as we needed him for his shooting and basketball IQ. We'll need a few more vets like him to round out the roster. Keep in mind how young we were last year AND we didn't bring back Jack, Deng, Miles and Hawes

Huge. He turned down close to 2x in what Denver offered. Houston also was reportedly offering more. That Instagram was really telling. Speaking of Houston, their fans must be really confused. It turned down a $900k team option on Parsons and then traded away Lin, Asik, and picks for basically nothing in order to create room for another max player. All it has to show for it now is Trevor Ariza. Yikes

What Would You Re-Name the Cleveland Indians?
^I would say that the difference is that no one has ever used the term "indian" in a derogatory way. Many minorities still refer to themselves as a 'person of color', but calling the black guy in your office 'colored' might draw a negative reaction due to the historical context. With that said, when the NAACP originated (beginning of 20th Century), 'colored' was actually viewed as a more favorable and 'politically correct' descriptor than other terms commonly used at that time. Negro, without the historical context, is also something that would not be considered offensive. It is simply black in Spanish. Indian is a misnomer, but not a derogatory term. Moreover, it is commonly used by the group it incorrectly describes.... probably even moreso than they use Native American. That is what differentiates it from Redskins. Now, of course, it doesn't take much to tweak the term into something offense.... such as engine. If you say negro with the typical Cliven Bundy-esque twang, replacing the 'e' with an 'i' and the 'o' with an 'a', the context and intent changes. Context and intent matter. It's why some jokes are offensively racist and some jokes are hysterically racist.

About that 'right price', keep in mind that LeBron took less money in Miami in 2010 than he could've made here, and he took less money to return than he could've made if he stayed in Miami. The NBA's collective bargaining agreement with the players' association allows the incumbent team to offer more money than free agency suitors. As for the other Cavs' players, in addition to the opportunity to win, having LeBron as your teammate elevates the attention they receive. The Cavs games will return to the national broadcasts, perhaps as many as 20 this upcoming season. Last year, I think they were on national TV twice, or maybe only once if you don't count NBAtv. Responding to the "any single player" comment, in the NBA a single player can indeed make that much of a difference for a team. Individual players have more of an effect on an NBA game than they do in MLB or the NFL, generally. It is much more of a superstar driven league.

That's fine, octuple my estimate and you're still at 50% of what Fitzgerald claimed. Sounds like you don't appreciate the value of professional sports to a city's economy, including the PR attention and prestige its brings. Those are tough to put a price on but are valuable nonetheless. I think I do. We're getting a player, not a new franchise. I appreciate all the anecdotal evidence but I don't think LeBron's impact will be equal to the value of the franchise (or even close) annually. In any case, I'm glad he's back, I just don't like the narrative getting too twisted. Go Cavs! Value of the franchise doubled upon his return. It is now estimated to be worth over $1billion. Just sayin'.....

Forget Ferrari, I say. Give this same pitch to Harley Davidson. Much more Cleveland and much more realistic. An iconic Harley showroom would be a draw for a much larger segment of society without all the uppity glitz Ferrari would bring, yet all the 'coolness' Ferrari could hope for. On a positive note, I have to think the plans for a building like this would not hinge on getting Ferrari to sign on. The concept must be in the pipeline.

What Would You Re-Name the Cleveland Indians?
I don't know one black person who would give that as the reason why they use the term black over African-American. I get what you are saying, but it is much more a matter of simplicity. Some of the more prestigious societies use the term American Indian. I'm sure you can find some 10% Cherokee hipster with a latte in a Starbucks who will tell you it should not be used, but I'll never forget going to a reservation when I was in grade school and the guys who still chose to live somewhat like American Indians simply used the term 'Indian' to describe themselves.

Don't forget about 8-16 playoff games, all sold out. That alone is an influx nearly as great as the overall improvement in attendance over the entire year. Concessions are also a huge $$ driver not factored into the price of the ticket. You also should not look solely at the people who actually go to the games. The downtown bars (and bars across the entire region) will see an influx of patrons during the games. National media will descend on the Q on a regular basis and the celebs will fly in for a visit as they did before. After the games, the party is on. Visitors from out of town don't merely go to the game. They'll be at the RRHOP, the Aquarium, maybe even a Browns game. Don't underestimate the multiplier effect. Direct ticket sales are only the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure the county took the most generous estimates, but it is a lot closer to $500mill than it is to $33mill. A lot.

What Would You Re-Name the Cleveland Indians?
I really don't think the name is or ever will be an issue. Indians is a misnomer for sure, but it has been embraced by a good bit of the 'American Indian' society. I think we would at least be in the clear until we see changes made to the names of The National Congress of American Indians, The American Indian College Fund, The American Indian Movement, etc., etc. I've personally stopped using the term 'Native American' just like I don't use the term 'African-American'. Not one of my black friends wastes their breath on 'African-American', so why should I? If we get caught up in a debate about the name when we haven't even yet dealt with the issue of the logo, it would be akin to the usual strategy of changing any debate about gun control into a question of whether guns should be banned. It's a distraction to a legitimate issue. To be clear, I'm in absolutely no way chiding anyone for discussing it. I am simply giving my take, same as the rest of you.
