Cleveland Browns Discussion
.08 is the legal limit in NC. I've heard conflicting reports about whether he missed the drug test or the results were at trace levels. No one knows for sure, not even the Browns, absent Josh telling them directly. The NFL is not allowed to speak on it. The codeine episode is also an utter shame. I HIGHLY doubt the NFL would've reduced the suspension, especially for someone with Josh's past, unless he had rock solid proof about it being mixed into a prescription a doctor gave him. Remember, mistake and ignorance are not sufficient to excuse a violation, but they are good reasons to mitigate the punishment

Cleveland Browns Discussion
^His bargain contract (even considering his issues) is tolled during his suspension. There really is no benefit to cutting him.... at least not to the Browns. I have no opinion on how the symbolism of being but might help him deal with any personal demons he has. With that said, an interesting take I've heard is that the way the NFL executes its suspension program is going to be the worst thing possible for Josh because it prohibits him from any contact with his team and will cause him to fall even deeper in with any bad influences.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
^More likely that Lebron is just now on the 'same page' with Paul. I have very little doubt that Paul wants him to come back and clear the one black mark on his legacy. Cleveland would be the LAST team LBJ's camp would use for leverage against Miami. There is no way...... not a chance. Someone sent out this vine today and it made me laugh. Inferiority complex or not, it is not a Cleveland specific problem. Philly has a bit of it for sure. Baltimore too. And I would say several states do as well - New Jersey, Mississippi, Arkansas, to name a few.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Wojnarowski has a story up that reports Rich Paul, Lebron's agent, is "pushing for the superstar's return to Cleveland." It seems that Paul has leapfrogged Maverick Carter in recent years as far as influence on Lebron, so this is good. Also noteworthy is that many reported back in 2010 that Paul was the one most against him leaving in the first place and he was the only one of the "horsemen" who stayed in Cleveland post Decision 2010. Re Windhorst.... take everything you hear from that guy with a grain of salt. He is pooping his pants right now. He burned the ABJ to go the PD and then burned the PD to go cover the Heat for ESPN. This whole episode has shown he is not nearly as connected to the 'inner circle' as he once was. Probably reported one too many leaks. One wonders where he goes from here if Lebron does return. He is one helluva basketball analyst, but I don't think he is as good as the other national guys in terms of relationship building with sources. His leverage has always been the feeling that he is more connected to Lebron's camp than any other reporter. FWIW, many people suspect Broussard's 'source' is Rich Paul himself.

Spencer Hawes is going to sign with LAC when the moratorium ends. That's a big get for Doc Rivers. He seemed like he would fit well in Blatt's system. I have to think the Cavs are going to sign or trade for someone to replace him. We've expressed some interest in Channing Frye who might be a slightly better shooter but is not as good of a passer or rebounder

I'm pretty sure to sign a max player like Lebron we would have to renounce any rights to both Deng and Hawes, which would preclude us from using them in a sign and trade.

It borders Maple Heights and both borders and shares a school district with Bedford and Oakwood. Exactly. Same response.

Walton Hills is fairly isolated from the demographics I was referring to, not the MUCH more arbitrarily generalized demographics you probably assumed I was referencing.

I wish it was a little more specific that "this time of year" is 2 weeks. Some random visitor might assume the midges hang around or the entire Spring

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Monroe's fit on our roster and in a Blatt type system is questionable IMO. The Cavs clearly want players who are both tall and athletic for their positions or players that stretch the floor for their teammates. Monroe doesn't really have any of those qualities. Nice basketball player. If I was GM I'd be tempted to make a run, but I dont see Griff doing so. After Gortat re-signed in Wash, I suspect keeping Hawes or prying Frye away from Phoenix became the most appealing options. I also think Zeller might redeem himself a bit this year under Blatt. I'm not a Zeller fan at all, but this is unquestionably a better fit for him

5 suspects now in custody. Not one from Cleveland Heights. Sounds like CMHA played a part in their apprehension, so one can guess where they were found. No guarantee yet that they have the shooter(s)

Hayward is a 2/3 at this point. Wiggins is a 3/2. They would be interchangeable at the 2 and the 3..... in time. As far as cap space, the signing would eat up available cap space. The Cavs still have options to get creative and create more space if need be. And, if Utah decides not to match, I'm highly skeptical they would let him walk for nothing. A sign and trade, possibly even including a three-way deal, could be in the works to obtain Hayward and maintain flexibility. EDIT: more believable (IMO) reports now are that the offer would not reach max level, but would be close to it...... something closer to $12-14 mill per year. I think the Jazz would match that. EDIT2: CJ Miles has agreed in principle on a multi-year deal with the Pacers. Good fit IMO. He can provide the type of instant, off-the-bench offense Indiana sorely lacks.... especially with Evan Turner not returning and things looking very shaky with Lance 'the Ear Blower' Stephenson

2014 FIFA World Cup
I'm thinking of adopting the Netherlands as my team going forward in this World Cup. Persie and Robben are really exciting to watch. They are probably underdogs at this point of the World Cup, and I like rooting for the underdog. Also, the Netherlands would probably be right at the top of my list if the USA sunk into the ocean. I think they get past the Ivory Coast to face either Argentina or Belgium in the semifinals. That will be one helluva game

Well..... we are going to see how those fireworks events go now that Shaker and Euclid are both shut down. The issue, in my mind, is the convergence of youths from different neighborhoods at these events. As juvenile as it is to use the term "turf", it seems like that was something which was much more respected not too long ago. It shouldn't be like that, but it is. Crime follows poverty...... everywhere. It is true in Cleveland and it is true in the Ozarks, albeit the crime in the former garners much greater police and media attention. A place like Brunswick is geographically fairly insulated from poverty pockets, for now. When its housing stock starts to age and the shiny new neighborhoods pop up 20-30 years from now, that could very well change. You are starting to see some of this in places not too far from Brunswick, such as North Ridgeville. A solution? That's the million dollar question, isn't it? Let's not pretend like a solution is readily available and only needs to be implemented. Eliminating poverty is the most obvious solution, but impossible to implement. I have my thoughts which I have shared repeatedly.... something akin to order-maintenance policing which shrinks patrols and creates more neighborhood specific cops out on the street and highly visible. More specifically for the inner-ring communities, my best guess is that they are most burdened by years, hell.... decades of utter failure in the CMSD (which falls first and foremost on the parents but not insignificantly on the school district itself, of which many of those "parents" are products).

2014 FIFA World Cup
I thoroughly enjoyed the USMNT's run in this World Cup. Soccer really is an 'edge of your seat' type sport when you get into it. How about that kid, Julian Greene, coming in and scoring a goal on, literally, his first 'touch' in a World Cup match. I wonder if that has ever happened before?...... wait a minute, wasn't the header against Ghana in our first game also Brooks' first touch?

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
RFA Gordon Hayward (6'8 SG/SF, Utah, 16ppg, 5rpg, 5apg) is in town visiting the Cavs today. A lot of reports flying around now that the Cavs are preparing a very large offer sheet for him, perhaps even a max deal (which would be around 4yrs, $60mill). The Jazz would have 7 days to match the offer. Hayward is a young, highly regarded prospect. I'm not sure he is worth max money, but considering some of the signings around the league so far this free agency period, that might just be his market value. If they do sign him, I have to think they have a deal in principle to move Dion (and perhaps another piece, like TT) for a big man. Signing Hayward would pretty much eat up all of our cap room. We could still re-sign Hawes, so long as we don't renounce his Bird rights.

That issue is much larger than CH and SH. The problems at the street fair and the fireworks were largely the due to the effect of social media and a lack of alternatives, causing significant influxes to those events of kids not from those communities

^^HUD was the program I was using as my reference point. A HUD loan I am familiar with required one unit in a (approx.) 30 unit building to be offered to a low-income family.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
^^^You are mixing two issues. I agree on the demolition front, especially for the housing stock with very little appeal to the current market, even if rehabbed. But leaving a lot empty versus allowing a productive development to be built through tax abatements does not use up any City resources the City would have had otherwise. The grants for these projects, if any, come from higher levels of government, not the City, and would not be spent elsewhere in the City absent the development. If anything, that is bringing money in to the City. The City is very open to development and exhausts all other options prior to giving a tax abatement. The Cedar-Meadowbrook property was one instance in which the developer asked for some money for remediation and the City said no. The lot remains vacant, generating zero income and providing nothing of value to the community, except for that segment that likes to look at an empty, lightly maintenances grass lot in the middle of a bustling business district.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
^Not necessarily like that. 'Mixed income' to my understanding usually means that the developer has obtained some kind of grant for a large project which requires a small percentage of the units (usually one or two) be offered to qualifying low income applicants. I cringe everytime I read a comment like this
