OH, WV, PA: Endangered Wheeling, Washington Mall and more
Great post! That east Wheeling historic district is such a sad site to behold. It seems that the city officials attitudes towards historic buildings is very similar to Middletowns, OH. Just imagine what that district would look like redeveloped!

Cleveland: Asiatown: Development and News
For sure. Maybe the city could do more comprehensive planning for the area and try to brand it stronger.

Cleveland: Asiatown: Development and News
I am trying to think how this could tie into surrounding neighborhoods. I would rather it not be a small isolated enclave. I did a little bit goggle mapping and I saw that across the street are vacant surface lots which could be redeveloped in the future. But when you go up a block north to Superior you run into a glut of old warehouse buildings. It would be great for this to jump start a larger redevelopment effort of those warehouses. The issue with the near eastside of Cleveland is that the redevelopment projects are mostly very isolated not creating a nice neighborhood identity. Lots of potential for sure!

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I'd like to see these studies. Clifton doesn't back up and most of the traffic on the Shoreway comes straight off of Clifton (and some off Lake). Also, I would bet that Carnegie and Chester each have as much traffic on the east side and aren't too bad at rush hour. Sure, it may add a couple minutes. But I think the benefits outweigh the slight cost of adding 2 minutes to someone's commute. Very true and Clifton would have about the same amount of traffic lights proportionally. I think if ODOT really wanted to consider all the options that could have played around with modeling with 2 or 3 intersections. But they simply said no after they believed 4 intersections would not work.

beautiful!

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Would four intersections on the shoreway really be unacceptable for traffic?

Very nice. Are you trying to see all the county-seats in Indiana like Ink?

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
urbanforever replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDoes this mean that the FBI is vacating their location on High Street? I sometimes get the feeling that the Arena District is sucking commercial tenants from Downtown and the Brewery District rather than creating new office jobs.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
:wtf: It's that time of the year. Back to school and xmas holidays are big sale/clearance seasons. the first /second week of August fall clothes should hit retail shelves, so now they've got to get rid of summer items or reclassify them for xmas, so they can deplete their inventory. That's good to hear

Chicago: Developments and News
Gentrification definitively should be a concern. They really need to come up with a comprehensive plan to incorporate the new development but not push out the older residents. Isn't Humbolt Park very close to the Puerto Rican Neighborhood? Also where is Lincoln Square?

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Ahh another Lebanese restaurant in Cleveland. Does anyone know where Cleveland ranks in terms of number of Lebanese residents? I know its definitively behind Detroit.

That would be nice! ...but probably not very likely

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
While this may place some financially strain on the church this is very good news for this neighborhood and preserving its historic character. This area has some of the best homes in Cleveland. I hope the church can think more creatively in expanding its ministries but doing it within a historic framework.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
Does anyone know how tenants are doing in Tower City Mall? I get the feeling that the clothing stores are especially struggling. Almost all of them had huge clearance sales of up to 60% last Tuesday. Or is this the time of year when clothing stores are bringing in the year's new styles? I wouldn't know since I rarely go shopping.

Binghamton (and a little Cooperstown), New York
Wow Binghamton is really nice. Wait Cooperstown has to be like 3 hours from Scraton?

Sleepy Hallow Part 2
Very nice bedroom community. I have actually stayed here a number of times since my family has very good friends who live here. Apparently the commercial district has been improving vasting in recent years. There are also some nice upper income 20s and 30s residential districts located closer to the river. I believe its in Sleepy Hallow but it may be in Tarrytown.

Cleveland: Urban Gardens & Farms
There is certainly a good location for this. Its right in the "forgotton Triangle" area just North of the East 55th station.

Results of my informal, unscientific poll
We dont have one place we have several. Shaker Lakes, Wade Lagon, the Cultural gardens, etc. Not downtown, but things we are not lacking. Those assets are much more nature focused and are different than an interactive downtown park. This is still something I feel Cleveland is lacking. And on your point about the Cultural gardens. This is not a place that families frequently visit. In general Clevelander's visit the Cultural Garden very infrequency and many don't even know about it. This is definitive an asset that needs to get publicized more. I would like to see UCI try to promote it more.

Voinevich Park could also become this if it added things like food vendors, swan boats, etc creating a more festival like atmosphere. But right now the park has very little programing and interactive activities.

Results of my informal, unscientific poll
I think that another thing Cleveland lacks to draw in families and kids is an interactive park. Something like a Milenium Park or City Park in St. Louis. Cleveland could easily have this if it finally got its act together with redeveloping and recreating public square.

Dayton trolley buses (link to site)
So are the bus tolley's still running in Dayton or not? I was there about a month ago on Sunday and I never saw one the entire day.

Results of my informal, unscientific poll
I think something downtown could do to spruce up more interest is to have more specialty stores and shops. Stores that one cannot find in your typical suburban shopping mall. Get a large number of shops like this and people would come to downtown Cleveland for more than just getting a meal, going to a ball game. Isn't a store like this set up to open on E.4th pretty soon?
