  1. ^My girlfriend and I were at the Levee to see a movie last night and it was a madhouse. The lobby was so loud we could hear it from inside our theater which was around the corner from the lobby. At one point, two kids just ran through our theater yelling. Also, police had to relocate people downstairs as we came out of the movie because you couldn't move through the lobby area. There were plenty of unruly kids but hardly a parent to be seen.
  2. At the risk of re-opening the whole can of worms, I don't think the marijuana ordinance is targeted at busting people smoking weed in their homes. People are too worried that this is gonna mess up their having a little fun. I seriously doubt this ordinance will ruin the casual weedsmoker's life unless he's smoking out on the street or carelessly displaying weed in public. I see this ordinance as more of an end around to take guns and harder drugs off the street, as well as a way to raise the water mark for drug laws in the area. Making marijuana possession an arrestable offense gives police a very potent weapon called search incident to arrest. This allows them to search people they could not search before without probable cause. Now whether this is right or wrong is arguable and I will not get into it. Whether or not the police will use this for good or to harass is another issue as well. But we will know this legislation's effect in a year. Under the Collaborative Agreement, Cincinnati police have to fill out paperwork detailing each arrest. So we will plenty of empirical data to test whether goals are met.
  3. ^And I thought the whole point of this development was to make settling in the area attractive, not to cater to commuter students. I also think it's funny that the board of trustees was concerned about the mix of stores. They certainly didn't have any qualms about putting two burrito places in the same building.

Any article that refers to Charlie Sheen as "a highly credible public figure" has credibility issues of its own.
  5. robstar, just so you know, Cincy-Rise is a panhandler.
  6. Just wondering, but who's going to implement this plan. I've noticed many of the buildings at the corner of Main and Liberty (many of those in the above photo) have been boarded up recently as if they're being prepped for construction. Is this somehow related? It's certainly exciting.
  7. I noticed the building where the Bay Horse is located is up for sale.
  8. My understanding is that there will be two garage entrances: one for the city-owned garage which faces Fourth Street and one for the homeowners which faces McFarland in the rear of the building. I don't think the city will have more than 100 spaces.
  9. There are new renderings out for Parker Flats available at www.huff.com. I would host them but I don't have a site and I'm not that technologically inclined. I have to say the building turned out a big more traditional than I'd hoped but I think I like the new rendering.
  10. New info on Vine Street development: http://www.3cdc.org/content.jsp?articleId=236 Apparently 3cdc has already begun construction on another 48 units in addition to the Gateway units. Pretty exciting stuff.
  11. Check out the section of 3cdc's website regarding Fountain Square: http://www.3cdc.org/content.jsp?articleId=228 The site has added alot of information about what's happening in and around the Square. The link to "Related District Projects" includes a couple renderings I haven't seen before: 580 Walnut, the Westin. Also check out this link: http://www.cbre.com/USA/US/OH/Cincinnati/Property/cincifountainsquare.htm?pageid=0 It's the leasing agent link which has even more new info about the Square including more new renderings and a better idea of what the "Probasco Market" entails. Most interesting, the map shows Fifth Third occupying the Southeast corner of their building. I thought they were totally vacating their first floor retail.
  12. What a clown! He sounds like he's out of control. The news article today said he didn't even show up to his own impeachment hearing.
  13. I would love to see a Busch Gardens-Zinzinnati. Of all those mentioned as possible buyers, I think Busch has the best parks. The Busch Gardens parks don't have as many rides as the others but the ones they have are pretty cool. They also have the most character, although Universal Studios isn't too far behind. And, not to mention, they offer free beer tasting.
  14. ^ I don't want to get too far off topic in this thread but Parker Flats is supposed to break ground in March. I've also been told to expect a final rendering of the building to be posted this week on Huff's site.
  15. My main concern with stiffening marijuana-possession penalities is whether we have the capacity to lock those people up. If we arrest more people where will they go? Needless to say, I don't see the new penalites being very effective without a new jail.
  16. ^That's about all I can do at this point. I'm incredibly excited and I hope it gets done by Summer 2007. I've been told that council is supposed to vote on the project this Wednesday, February 8th. After that, Vector, the construction company, will be able to apply for the construction permit and get working. The construction is on a 12-month schedule but I'm adding at least 3 months for delays. That's not to say it won't take longer than that, I'm just hoping it won't. Also, I promise I'll post everything once I've received all the details. Middle Earth hasn't released much info beyond what's available on www.downtownliving.com. I'll post pictures when I get them if someone will host them for me.
  17. Five floors of condos will sit on top of three levels of parking garage. Two level of the garage will be for residents. Those levels will be sectioned off from the public parking and utilize a separate entrance. My guess is that the garage won't be open until March '07 because constuction will be going on overhead.
  18. ^Only five months according to the timeline.
  19. Michael, 320 E. 8th was the address I was thinking of but I'm not sure if it has 28 ft. ceilings.
  20. What about the carbarn-looking building next to the Blue Wisp? I would think it is large enough and there is plenty of parking around.
  21. I really hope those numbers are a result of a crackdown on the drug trade and not a result of an increase in the drug trade. On their own, you really can't draw a conclusion either way.
  22. Here's a small blurb from the Towne Properties website that explains the construction: "Coming Soon... Foster's Point at Adams Landing Luxury landominiums with similar home design are under construction just west of Twain's Point."
  23. ^Thanks for the tip. Next time I'll end my list at 7.
  24. ^I'm not really sure how the #8 became a smiley face with shades.
