Michigan travel Advice -- Traverse City Area Cottages
Anyone know of nice family friendly lakeside cottages in the Traverse City Area? Not in Traverse City but within a short drive, and within a short drive to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Looking for a cottage on a lake, large or small, hopefully with a beach or swimming pool. I've stayed in some <ahem> rustic cottages before, however I'd like to keep it around $800- $1000 for the week. Proximity to a craft brewery a plus. TIA!

There is no project to extend I-74 thru Cincy and to the hinterlands. Only the projects specified by the Eastern Corridor plan, for better or worse. The I74/73 plan in Ohio has been dead for years.

KJP, I know its a new road and of the associated issues that come with it. But to call it an extension of I-74 when it is clearly not as the linked blog post is is deceptive. IMHO this is being done to drum up fear about the project by incorrectly calling it an Interstate. That is what I am pointing out (whether I am for the road or against the road is irrelevant). FWIW, Ohio backed out of the I-74/73 Extension Plan many moons ago.

There is some info to peruse here: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D08/Pages/PublicInvolvementMeetingSchedule.aspx Look under CLE-32-2.25, 32(PID82370) Eastgate Improvements Project-Eastgate to Olive Branch Stonelick and Clermont County I-275 & SR-32 Interchange See http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D08/Documents/Planning%20docs/Board%208%20-%20Preferred%20Alternative%20Detail.pdf a grade intersection is proposed at Old 74, west of the I-275 I/C and no R/W is being preserved for a future I/C You can also see info on the Cle County TID Site: http://www.tid.clermontcountyohio.gov/CurrentProjects.aspx Hamilton County Project info is not posted

But it takes more than just putting up "I-74" signs. The road has to conform to Interstate Standards, e.g shoulder width median width, ramp merge lengths, etc. This would incur some serious reconstruction to the Norwood Lateral, and existing Red Bank Expressway. The TRAC funded parts of the Eastern Corridor, as far as I know, involve construction of something less than a freeway and more than a surface arterial. There will be some grade intersections along SR 32.

Should Student Athletes Get Paid?
How can AD's afford to pay the student athletes? Very Very few Athletic Departments in D1 make a profit overall. I think it might only be one or two.

You need some Philadelphia soul The song title is appropriate. I never was a Hall & Oates fan. Listened to them on World Cafe yesterday (I think it was a replay of one a long time ago); I always though of them as cheesy 80's easy listening,,,but they were good on the Cafe, they played live. Hall & Oates is one of the more under-appreciated acts out there.

Let's throw the brakes on proposed 3C train http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20101010/EDIT02/10100336/Let-s-throw-the-brakes-on-proposed-3C-train Hopefully someone will write a rebuttal for this one. While she correctly denotes that cost will be a major factor in taking a train trip, she is comparing the cost per mile of the train (that includes op costs, fuel and depreciation of capital) to only the fuel costs of driving. If we use the current IRS per mile write-off of driving at 0.45c then it competes with the worst case 50c/mile for fare+subsidy. It should be noted the IRS rate does NOT include maintenance to the facility (highway), or does it -- via inclusion of fuel costs + fuel tax in that rate? [Edited per fair use guidelines]
