  1. The Marquette i/c is an entirely elevated interchange next to Downtown Milwaukee, I think it involved mainline work along I-94 and I-43. Dunno about the Zoo i/c tho.
  2. Google announced an image update yesterday http://google-latlong.blogspot.com/2010/09/imagery-update-week-of-september-20th.html Included was Cincy...I was browsing the imagery and to me it looks very recent like it was from this summer (2010) (late last year? -- too green). Anyone know? http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Cincinnati&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Cincinnati,+Hamilton,+Ohio&gl=us&ei=_9ScTNaSMYWClAe9_smrCg&ved=0CCoQ8gEwAA&ll=39.09717,-84.51043&spn=0.006028,0.008068&t=k&z=17

But the canal did run through Hamilton. Correct. This area where Route 4 expands with a wide median actually contained the M-E canal http://maps.google.com/maps?q=hamilton+OH&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Hamilton,+Butler,+Ohio&gl=us&ei=jwORTIXWMISclgeJ-Y3mAQ&ved=0CCQQ8gEwAA&ll=39.369888,-84.547037&spn=0.003193,0.004528&t=h&z=18
  4. Your point to point average speed comparison in this case is not valid, when compared to the average running speed of the 3C. To compare to a train, you will have to factor in your final destination, via another mode at the end point of the transit mode. So maybe the train trip/endpoint mode via taxi you would average say 29 MPH. You certainly couldn't have made the side trip to the summer camp (Fort Scott by chance?). [but you knew that] I think we all know that speed is not the only determining factor here; but it is certainly good soundbite material for the uninformed (hey I can drive 70 mph on I-71, but only 39 MPH on the train --- not factoring in stops etc that would bring the average driving speed down).

folks that hang out at the ends of lines that are not actually in the line...oh you're not in this line, why are you congregating here?

There is always something to bitch about in Cincy inre sports....they just drew 110k for the Cubs series Its the 1st and 2nd week of school in lots of places; some colleges are back....that probably is a temporary drop in weeknight attendance. I wonder if there is a comparison of BBall attendance vs. size of market?

Flush Toilets are useless without sanitary sewers and water supply, just b/c the West End has them in current times is no proof that the infrastructure was in place to have them back in the 1700's and 1800's ...the building stock in the West End was substandard as well. Slum Clearance was the big thin back in those days, mainly kicked off by the work of Jacob Riis, "How the other half lives". Urban renewal had the best intentions at the time. Why would the League of Women Voters of Cincinnati have a schoolchildren brainwashing agenda?

Who published and distributed the book? (By the tone of your post, one would assume the automobile interests published it)

  16. Inre Suspended Spans, see this document: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/Divisions/Communications/TIGER%20Grant%20applications/Interstate%2071%20Jeremiah%20Morrow%20Bridge%20Modernization%20Project%20TIGER%20Grant%20Application%20Final.pdf I betcha the KY river span originally had only 60' between the bridges, as opposed to the 84' we have at the J.M. Bridge.
  17. ^ Thanks... I was hoping it would be more of classic beer garden, its kind of modern
  18. ^where's the Moerlein Lager House gonna be?
  19. See my comments upthread...the median is wider (84'); and I think the suspended spans in the existing bridge reek havoc with that, tho I'm not a bridge engineer
  20. Actually they are going to build a brand new bridge in the median, between the existing bridges, then route one direction of I-71 onto that new bridge. Then they are demolishing one span and building the other new bridge in its place and then routing the other direction onto that new one. Then the remaining bridge will be demolished.
  21. People that are making a big deal about the contract with PB not being executed have no idea how ODOT works. My company got a highway resurfacing job from that same Programmatic that the 3C Tier 2 was on and we don't have authorization to proceed either...its 4-6 months from selection, and the negotiations on the 3C project probably were a little more dicey than usual.

How exactly do you pick your favorite team? By which mascot is your favorite animal? Because they win most of the time? Because you have a crush on one of the players? I don't get it. U.C. --- I went there
