  1. The 12' wide lane on the interstate system is set in stone, (Unless an existing road was 'grandfathered' into the system, which there should be very few exceptions now, since a lot of the system has been rebuilt and widened) There also could be protection errors in the Google image, especially near bridges and retaining walls (I-75/85 in that area is in a trench, no?). The aerial photo is "flattened" to correspond to the mapping plane, which may distort the image near differences in elevation. Check it out near high bridges and you can see what I mean. I can assure you those lanes are 12' wide <edit> I stand corrected, those are 11' lanes on 75/85 in DT Atlanta! See this bridge site plan for the 14th St Bridge http://app5-trex-web.dot.state.ga.us/trex_external/designstore/DesignStore/0001298/Construction/0001298_0711.tif I thought there would be no way in heck there could be 11' permanent lanes on an interstate, but there they are.

Its Opening Day, and snowing by 10:00 Am I think they should tentatively schedule Red's Opening Day for first Sat-Sun-Mon of April and pick the best day weather-wise when the forescast develops.
  3. Also, in Atlanta the medians (especially in the middle) are much narrower than 10 feet. Which makes all the "Move Accident Vehicles from Roadway" signs even funnier. Move to where? Using Google Maps to measure at multiple points, it looks like the lanes in downtown Atlanta are between 11 and 11.5 feet wide (probably closer to 11). I doubt that, they most likely 12' wide, that requirement is as old as the Interstate system itself

    I've heard Hamilton called "Hamil-bama"
  5. I agree with the first part of your statement (quite a bit actually), but would like to know how you get that only suburban parents don't want their kids to hate them? I mean, that's really out there kingfish. And everyone's been going on and on about how urban people know their neighbors, watch their houses, etc and suburban people want (and get) more privacy, so your argument doesn't really wash to me. Before the advent of the tract suburb with the privacy fence and attached garage, parenting used to be a more communal experience; if you messed up in front of your friend's mom she would discipline you without hesitation just as your mom would do the same to your friend. This is an outgrowth of close-proximity living. I remember the same 'type' of parenting; and I grew up in a suburb (built circa 1970's) in the early 80's. We played outside ALL THE TIME, until dusk usually. This was, of course, before the advent of 'play dates' and scheduled activities for all the kids all the time - so I think other forces are at work here.
  6. This place, in SF, made my mouth water...all the meats are cooked there...you order at the counter and they make a sandwich made from lots of the in house roasted meats http://www.tommysjoynt.com/ Now, some place like that in OH? I always liked Dee Felice in Covington, but that might be too fancy
  7. I seen that --- but they go to anyplace with great food, not just 50's style diners
  8. Ok, on the lighter side---- I am a fan of "Diners Drive Inns and Drives"# http://www.foodnetwork.com/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/index.html on FoodTV; but it seems to me that Ohio is underepresentad as a whole (and nothing from Cincy) Anyone who watches the show knows what kinda stuff makes it on there. Home made, good value, unique. Lets rattle off some places around the State -- maybe we can email the show in order to get them featured. I would say Zips in Mt Lookout, in Ciny...but after watching DDD, I think they might not cut it..The burgers are darn good, but on a national stage, maybe not so much. #Leave gripes about the cheesy host somewhere else
  9. I think the area was being called Kenwood at least since the 40's. I have a 1947 County Map where its labeled Kenwood Road. The previous map I have, 1920, has it labeled Madisonville Rd. Personally, I always thought 'Western Hills' was a description for the macro area of Bridgetown, Westwood, Cheviot, Covedale etc.
  10. I took a tour in 2005, I'm not a photog, and my editing skills are nil From what I recall, a few of us took a long walk up the approach tunnel to the station we were at. You can see the tracks split.

I see in the early 80's ADM lobbied a great deal to get the draconian sugar quotas we have now signed into law (under Reagan), that is when HFCS became cheaper that sugar (well, when sugar became more expensive than HCFS)

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20090311/NEWS01/903110328/1055/NEWS Shouldn't this be handled in small claims court???? Should be the retail value of the missing Xbox and ancillary stuff, along with court costs. What a spoiled snot nosed kid...I can say that without knowing anything else about him!

Shoppers who decide they don't want meat, or any other frozen or dairy item and just leave it on the shelf to get ruined. Tonite I took a $8 pork roast I found in the easter candy aisle back to the meat guy. I think it was still cold enough -- but the fat lazy ass that didn't take it back probably complains the loudest about rising costs. Oh, and people who spit their chewing gum in urinals.

The "Nation's Station" is a moniker that stems from when they broadacsted at 500,000 wats

who the hell cares? White middle aged males are their target audience. FWIW Burbank is gone. Cutler, McAllister and Moe Egger are all mainly 1530Homer personalities Your forgot 'sensible Don' ;-)
  17. at any rate, the claim that conservative "stick in the mud's" killed it is way off
  18. I thought the Depression killed the subways?
  19. and no more nuclear plants on the horizon either
  20. FWIW Huggins didn't make the NCAA's until his 3rd year. And the team he inherited was in MUCH better shape than the team Cronin inherited. The difference is that when Huggins came to UC it had been a really long time since UC made the tourney so expectations weren't quite as high
