  5. Its called the "Smolen-Gulf Ashtabula County Highway 25 Bridge" And here is the Wikipedia page on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smolen-Gulf_Ashtabula_County_Highway_25_Bridge I wonder if this is the 1st ALL NEW* covered bridge constructed in a looong time *Not a rehab or replacement of a covered bridge already existing.
  6. NEW covered bridge! ----------------------------------------------- Nation’s longest covered bridge to be dedicated Ashtabula County’s 17th is 613 feet long and cost $8 million By CARL E. FEATHER - Lifestyle Editor - [email protected] Star Beacon Ashtabula County’s newest covered bridge, and the nation’s longest, will be dedicated 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26. The ceremony will be held at the southeast end of the bridge, with access off Plymouth Ridge Road. The Covered Bridge Festival Committee is holding the event, which is being underwritten by Lakeview Federal Credit Union. A highlight of the event will be the official naming of the bridge, which spans the Ashtabula River on State Road. There is already a State Road covered bridge in the county. The new bridge is 613 feet long and cost $8 million. It is No. 17 for Ashtabula County and the longest in the United States. 8/12/2008 ODOT connects more Ohioans with Specialized Transportation Grants http://www.dot.state.oh.us/news/Pages/ODOTconnectsmoreOhioanswithSpecializedTransportationGrants.aspx $3.7 million awarded statewide to improve transit for elderly, disabled Ohioans COLUMBUS (August 12, 2008) – To better connect more than 80,000 disabled Ohioans to jobs and schooling - and connect the state’s more than two million elderly residents to health care and home – the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is awarding $3.7 million in federal transportation dollars to local transit agencies for the purchase of specialized mobility equipment. This year’s grants from ODOT’s Specialized Transportation Program will go to 85 agencies in 41 counties. Building upon ODOT’s mission to promote a multi-modal transportation system for all of the state’s citizens, the goal of the Specialized Transportation Program is to increase personal mobility for elderly and disabled Ohioans, offering safe transportation alternatives. Increased mobility options improve quality of life and provide much-needed access to employment, medical appointments, grocery shopping, education, banking and other services. Targeting areas of the state where existing transportation services are unavailable or insufficient to meet the special transportation needs of elderly individuals or people with disabilities, ODOT awards these grants on an annual basis. The Specialized Transportation grants cover 80 percent of the vehicle and equipment costs; the local agency must provide a matching 20 percent. Through more than a dozen transit-related efforts, ODOT’s Office of Transit advocates continued personal mobility for all Ohioans, by supporting, coordinating and funding public transportation as a critical element of Ohio’s multi-modal transportation system. ### For more information, contact: Scott Varner, ODOT Central Office Communications, at 614-644-8640 or your local ODOT District Communications Office
  10. I think the title of this thread is a little sensational. I looked on the project's webpage fully expecting to see that whole block of Parson's being demolished. That is not the case. The image is a screen capture from an Aerial Photo of Mound/Fulton Street Alternative (east side)Livingston See http://www2.dot.state.oh.us/7071study/pdfs/AFA_A3_Aerial_4%20web.pdf 2 buildings are being acquired, the rest of the strip is intact. The * attached to the E.T. Paul building states that Additional Alternates are under consideration in this area that may eliminate the need to acquire these buildings
  11. what if WC patners with Springdale in the JEDD?
  12. Shelter residents say they accepted $1 to sign petition By Jon Craig • [email protected] • August 13, 2008 COLUMBUS - Residents of a Butler County homeless shelter said they were paid $1 apiece this summer to sign a petition seeking to repeal a new state law regulating payday lenders. If true, people who paid for their signatures can be charged with a fifth-degree felony under Ohio law, punishable by a fine of $2,500 and up to 12 months in prison for each instance. But proving and prosecuting such offenses is rare - no one could recall a case in recent history. See link for rest http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080813/NEWS01/808130309/1168/NEWS
  13. However, the comments on here imply that WC actively went out and stole the office location from Springdale. Anyone know the details of Evendale's or S'dales competing offers? ISTR that the move was spurred by lack of space at the original site and a move to consolidate. GEAE may have 'special' office space reqt's that might require new construction(such as areas for CNC protypting or something like that)...I don't know
  14. Why are you all criticizing WC for this?....Duke's the one who bought the QC sports complex and marketed it as an office complex..attracting GE to the site. GEAE most likely made the 3 municipalities aware of the site selection process and played it so that they all competed with each other for the best "package". FWIW these are supporting white collar jobs for the Evendale manufacturing facility. Bringing the fact that they should have looked at a downtown location is a strawman argument since they would NOT locate their support facilities further away from the Evendale facility (why they had Erlanger in the mix is beyond me....). IMHO the discussion should revolve around GEAE being committed to the AREA....They are doing gangbuster business now, due to the markets in far east and the middle east (yes, oil money IS flowing back to our economy)

On the highway side, I think the upgrade of SR 32 in the Eastgate Area is proceeding: See http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D08/Pages/PublicInvolvementMeetingSchedule.aspx Look under * Clermont County I-275 & SR-32 Interchange (2nd slot down)

I lived in Cincy all my life and never realized that those were the classic stereotypes of Cincinnatians--- But they are classic stereotypes of Hooisers and Kentuckians ;-) (Uhhh get my point?)
  18. ISTR that the new facility consolidates current Springdale and West Chester facilities, nothing from the City of Cinti or the Evendale Plant.....suburb to suburb move. All the cities listed have current GE facilities, except Erlanger (?); so y'ins should be complaining that one of the sites under consideration is across the creek. GEAE's business if booming in SE Asia and the Middle East

Terminal 1 is still open and is to the south of the parking garage in the liked Google Map Air Photo by twnipper. There is a covered walkway that links it to the garage. That has the KCAB (Kenton County Airport Board) offices you speak of. The old building in the photo is just to the left (west) of Terminal 1, not sure what its used for now. The strip of asphalt in the mid-ground of the photo is actually the middle N-S runway (North is to the right of the photo, and the direction of the view is generally to the SW). Looks to be an old diagonal runway in the background, since removed (Still evident in this photo in the alignment of the service road, and old airport property line http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=&daddr=39.055309,-84.662544&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=18&sll=39.055368,-84.662603&sspn=0.00292,0.003653&ie=UTF8&ll=39.049952,-84.673691&spn=0.023363,0.029225&t=h&z=15) If the "B" flag shows up in the Google Map I linked, that is what I think the front of the building is in the photo. The original building may have been modified substantally

Looks to me if they just broke ground on what is now Terminal 1, just to the left of the building in the photo. Notice the cleared and fenced off parking area...

  22. Historic Sharonville mansion on block Hauck House hasn't found buyer in two years BY WILLIAM A. WEATHERS | [email protected] SHARONVILLE - The Hauck House, the century-old summer home of brewer Louis J. Hauck, will be up for sale at a sheriff's auction Thursday. "It's been for sale for a couple of years without much success," said Margo Warminski, preservation director for the Cincinnati Preservation Association. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080609/NEWS01/806090320/1056/COL02 Posted as a public service - hopefully some presevation groups will take interest
  23. ^^^^^ Delhi has great proximity to downtown for commuters...if the market keeps going the way it is --- expect more folks to move into Delhi, IMHO (Now, if they ever built that bridge over the River to the Airport)
  24. But 'sense of place' means you know where you are and it has a unique feel. A NBD* is not a prerequisite, IMHO. You mention the Covedale Library and Covedale Cinema/Theatre, and I mention nice streets and housing stock. So Covedale has its sense of place *Covedale has a small NBD with Price Hill Chili as an anchor ;-)
  25. Exactly, the westside is severely lacking a 'sense of place.' Price Hill's has fallen to the wayside with the fall of the neighborhood, Delhi Twp/Green Twp never really had one. Cheviot is close as is Westwood...but both needs lots of attention and TLC and they could very well get to that point. I disagree, although the West Side does not have any squares, there is a definate sense of place in the older burbs. Small "Downtowns" are there for Covedale, along Glenway; Price Hill along Warsaw near where it splits off from Glenway. Westwood at Harrison and Montana, And, of course "Chevois"! Westwood has a center in its old town hall. http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=qhrbwg7yh1ws&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=8791559&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&encType=1 Covedale has some fine homes NW of Cleves Warsaw and Glenway, and along Covedale Ave. Homes along Glenmore, for example, rival those in Hyde Park
