Cincinnati Bengals Discussion
Man arrested at stadium An Alabama man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly was caught on a security camera trying to break into offices at Paul Brown Stadium. Thomas Walker, 23, of Montgomery, Ala., is charged with criminal trespassing. At 1 a.m., he was caught in the stadium by security, according to Cincinnati police. It is unclear why Walker wanted to get into the building. Full story: http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/AB/20071001/NEWS01/710010359/

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
What's with this 1o years stuff? According to http://news.enquirer.com/assets/AB2100635.PDF, the Banks was first conceived in 1999, and the plan 1st unveiled in April 2000 http://www.cincinnatiport.org/APPEND1.PDF , so we are on about 7 years. Not much could happen in the first few years due to all the stadium work and FWW work (Oversaturate the consruction market); then after 9/11 the economy went south, so to say all kinds of work was happening over the last 10 years is not true. Oh, please. I don't go out and hunt down every city for a cite, but Louisville has over $1 billion worth of projects in the pipeline. Let's count projects over the past two years that have been proposed -- Museum Plaza: $469 million 62-story tower. While it may be ugly to some, to others, it is a prime example of avant-garde beauty. Let's not fuss over the design. It's gotten the support of not only the city, but the state, who is financing a large chunk of it with TIF. Includes lofts, museums, parks, offices, and part of UofL. RiverPark Place: $200 million project along the Ohio, with 600+ units, two 14-story towers, retail, offices, a marina. Two towers and numerous 5-story buildings. Arena: $250 million project, TIF financing through city-state agreement. Center City District: $250 million project, through TIF financing part of city-state agreement. ZirMed Gateway Towers: $25 million 10-story and 12-story residential condo tower. Iron Quarter: $50 million 10-12 story mixed-use project, through TIF financing part of city-state agreement. Not to say Louisville is better than Cincinnati, but that we have regional and state cooperation which is sorely lacking at The Banks. While our state government is open to the idea of TIF financing and using hotel revenues (e.g. Museum Plaza) to finance portions of the project, the very mention at The Banks seems to stir resentment. Anyone proposing a taller tower gets shot down. Then you have the squabbles between the city, county and various groups who clamor over some minority issue and etc., and it's no wonder why this has taken _10_ years from announcement to this. .... I've seen larger projects proposed and built faster than The Banks. .... So all those projects listed have gone from paper <announcement> to opening in 2-3 years, as stated upthread? I don't buy that for one minute. Is it the City/County's fault that getting money from C'bus is like squeezing pennies?

Republican Roll Call!
I think you'll find your answer right here: Homo politicus: brain function of liberals, conservatives differs The brain neurons of liberals and conservatives fire differently when confronted with tough choices, suggesting that some political divides may be hard-wired, according a study released Sunday. <snip> http://www.physorg.com/news108562207.html more of the same "either you are a D or an R, Red or Blue State" bullcrap"!

Freedom of speech? You be the judge.
One's freedom of speech does not trump anyone else's; hence the time allotment. It was a full room, and Sen. Kerry is a busy man so the 3 minute time limit for questions is reasonable. Should we have let this joker have all afternoon for his rambling diatribes while the others wait? He is clearly a "look at me, pay attention to me" type jackass; not much unlike a 2 year old that throws a fit when he is not paid attention to. (MayDay's comments are right on BTW -- that would be a great topic for another thred to be started). He would have never left the mic on his own, he clearly thinks the rules do not apply to him. Its not really a free speech issue anyway...did the cops need to tase him? Should he have went to jail? If your a snotty ass kid, you might get folks aggravated with you...shoot he was probably the kid in class who would raise his hand and tell the Prof he forgot to give the quiz!

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
Mr Sparkle replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionInre the Waldorf School thing: A few weeks ago, there was a story in the Enq about an old school in the Princeton SD, at the end of Cottingham Drive in Sharonville; that has a very significant amount of wooded land that is used as a nature preserve. The School has been sold to a developer (Fisher Homes?) and will be houses. Seems To be a nice fit for the School, should be large enough; and there is a wooded are on site for the nature activities.

FYI - There are brochures for the AIG Creation Museum on the front desk at the vistor center/gift shop at Big Bone Lick State Park; which seems odd to me as that park is developed around Paleontology.

Metro Cincinnati: Road & Highway News
I think it is slated to be fixed 'sometime' ; but not with the 275 project. There is a reference to it in one of the FAQ's for the Thru the Valley project: http://www.thruthevalley.com/TTV_PDFS/TTV_PDFs9.2.05/072805_FAQ.pdf 20. What will be done to relieve the crossover problems that exist in the bridge over I-75 between the eastbound I-275 to northbound I-75 ramp and the southbound I-75 to eastbound I-275 ramps? A separate project is planned for improvements to I-275 including the ramps to and from I-75 However, while there is funding for the engineering portion of this project, funding has not been secured for construction.

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
other big boxes are being built on Brownfield sites. Wal*Mart is proposed for the old Ford Plant in Fairfax; and the Centre on Cinti was a brownfield, I think. (but those are not ped friendly developments -- I guess it would be hard to carry furniture home tho)

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
I think they get a free pass since they are"cool" and "European"; I appluad their environmentally friendly efforts, Wal Mart does the same things in some pilot stores. In the end the IKEAS still rely on greenfield development, large sites, large buildings and car-friendly locations. 33% of their stuff comes from Asia too http://www.ikea.com/ms/en_GB/about_ikea/press_room/manufacturesproduct.pdf

Blue Ash: Development and News
RV, the land you speak of is not part of the current plan (and was owned by the County); that land sits far back off of Plainfield, West of the Church. In the new graphic the irregular shaped gray Building at the bottom of the image is the Hartzell Church, which stays according to the graphic. The land occupied by the current plan is a vacant parcel (used to be a Hardee's), and underutilized "office condos". Not that different from the current view from the backs of the houses. In fact the new development will probably offser better screening to the neighborhood that what is there. Kmart on Hunt Road will be gone tho. And...

Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Projects & News
To widen, I think is $500,000 per mile just for the pavement structure, so could say $1 million / mile considering both directions, if pavement cost is %20 of the total cost, then we're talking $6 million/mile to widen I-70 for three lanes The rehab for I-70 would have to happen anyway, so to compare apples to apples, compare how much it would be to add capacity to I-70 to equate to the new freeway,

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
However, the I-74 extension and I-73 in Ohio are dead. In fact they never really were alive to begin with, the State had other tranpsortation priorities. But, if its on Wikipedia it MUST be true.
