As far as the EC roadway bridge, I contend that we build that one and REMOVE the Existing Newtown Road Bridge. Net no new bridges over the river
  2. You can't preserve trees that never existed. The original photographs from 2004 show no trees on the site. The land looks like farmland in the picture. The site may have been cleared prior to 2004, but that was years before this construction began. .... Correct, here is a bird's eye of the site, on the right side of the street (Note the "traditional" patio homes across Wilken's Blvd did not take out any trees either) http://local.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&cp=qjht9h7z5zjn&style=o&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&scene=9537615&encType=1 Google's air photo is even older http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=39.305363,-84.320573&spn=0.00484,0.009238&t=h&z=17&om=1

  4. Then the door would be open for other suits, the obese could sue the developers for making them use cars? EPA could sue the Electorate of Hamilton County for voting down the Light Rail plan? Trouble is, you can pin it all on the big bad developers; you would have to sue the Feds for the various laws etc that promote(d) suburbanization, the automobile lobby, The FHA, the FHWA, other lobbyists groups...where would it stop? Lots of money would be spent on the suit proving culpability, that would be better spend on land use and planning modifications under our existing free market framework in order to curb the de-densifying
  5. Sorry for the reply to an old reply ;-) SPUI's required closed accesses to the intersecting road for a good distance beyond the location of the Single Point Signal for development of the turn lanes and eliminate negative impacts of the accesses on the signal operations. I think it might be as much as a 1000' to 1500' beyond the signal --- but don't quote me on that. If a road is already "access controlled" that is a plus, many city surface streets are not. If the SPUI is over the freeway, the structure gets MUCH more expensive. Can't speak for Woodman and Linden, but it sounds like abutting development has to maintain their driveways? No room for service roads. Sometimes a "compressed Diamond" interchange works just as well as a SPUI (tho not as "trendy") FYI, SR 63 at I-75 is to be a SPUI, the accesses near the interchange are being closed. SR 63 had somewhat of an access control already, but service roads had to be added. Proposed R/W still had to be acquired for the improvement, that includes "access rights" to abutting properties that will have their drive closed, which is why the bridge was worked on first (last summer); R/W purchases take a loooong time, esp. when access is changed -- so the road widening will happen later.
  6. Uggh R-Club; but that was "urine" alley..always good to let it out before getting in line for Taco Hell Whats the name of the bar on the corner of McMillan and W. Clifton? Is it still there?...It was L shaped and tucked behine a building...there was a door on both McMillan and W. Clifton
  7. 1) is on the hike/bike path around sharon woods lake, the extreme north point of the path as it crosses the upper reach of the lake. From the harbor area go north on the path under Kemper road and I-275 an you'll get it

WHY do we give press to these loosers? Part of being a good Catholic is being sensitive to others, and that is not raising all hell when YOU find something that is insensitive to YOU....LORD forbid I hope Starbucks survives! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070508/NEWS01/305080017 Starbucks jolts customer THE ASSOCIATED PRESS SPRINGBORO, Ohio – A woman who loves Starbucks coffee has decided to drop the Starbucks habit because she was offended by a religious-related statement the company printed on the side of a cup. 11. Why create a page?...use The Google Maps API
  12. Try milorganite; made from recycled sludge. EZ to use, no burn in, doesn't need to be watered in. http://www.milorganite.com/home/ A fertilized lawn will grow strong and choke out the weeds. I didn't use a herbicide this year and I can count on one hand the number of dandelions
  13. I think 1. can be managed. Rolling stock is lighter for passenger trains. Given I-71 between Columbus and Cincy, the curves are no sharp and its flat, for the most part. 2. The OSHP would boo hoo the idea, obviously -- but they would find a new place to hide. Otherwise only a few 'official" vehicles are supposed to use them, and they can be protected -- I doubt its a fatal flaw tho
  14. The rail lines would be on new structures in the median designed for rail loading, adjacent the roadway bridges. Now, about the rail going under existing side road overpasses of the interstate? Are side and vertical clearances less than required for freight rail? (Freight rail req's 23'-0" vertical clearance track to low beam of overpass, and a 18'-0" side clearance from CL of track) My train of thought revolved around rural and suburban interstates...getting into the urban core will be a tricky matter. But, there are tons of trips that are suburb to suburb.
  15. Why Not? -Most medians have the space for rail lines (will need barrier protection and the space is lost for lane additions) -I think rail lines could be squeezed between the center piers of overpasses (I would assume that lateral and vertical clearances are less for passenger rail than freight rail?) -The freeways really define our development patterns, and desire lines (development and edge cities follow the freeways) - Lower speed rail lines could up and over interchange ramps to stations in the ramp infields - Some stations could be in the middle and connected to the overpass - like CTA's red line (Chicago) - High speed rail lines could not do that, but stations are fewer. - R/W needs would be minimal - Dedicated rail and separated rail lines would compete with the auto since they can be fast(er) - closer to the urban core the lines would be elevated, piers being in the median. Thoughts? (lets keep it limited to the discussion of incorporating rail transit with our current auto infrastructure)

  17. lots of positve comments from folks 'round the country ;-)
  18. sound walls always irked me...I'm glad I'm paying for the benefit of a few houses. The widening of the highway increases noise excuse is used to justify the walls..come 'on is a 6 lane highway that much more noisy than a 4 lane ??? -- thats how they put the I-71 noise walls in thru Montgomery and Kenwood. If they wanted to build noise walls on I-71, they should have been put in Norwood.. One wall between Dana and Edwards would have benefited 10x the number of houses in south Norwood! But, in defense of ODOT, I think most of the sound regs come from the feds and the NEPA act. I would like to know more about the Kentucky (KyTC) Policy, Sherman; it would be a good suggestion for ODOT. How about a wasteful spending thread for every state agency? It may pain y'all to hear it, but ODOT's one of the leaner Ohio state agencies out there (if that says much!)
  19. the theme the whole year was the short bench, Kirkland was out for the season in early Jan. just in time for the height of the conference play. No matter how many seniors AK he had, he still had to raid the football team for players to help. I doubt you would find any Bearcat fan that would say he had a roster chuck full of players ---you need more than a starting five to play B-East Bball
  20. Ummm, AK did not walk in here w/ a team full of players...Since the Huggins issue was drawn out for a year or so, recruitng took a hit. I think AK only had available 8 scholarship players -- remember how short handed he was? There were quite a few walk ons on his team, including Conner Barwin. He was close to getting BEAST coach of the year (or shoulda been close). Not sure how many players he had at Ole Miss, but he must be fieleding the same team that didn't have a winning record last year. I think the descision to not hire AK was to clean the slate of Huggins, that if came from the top, I don't know. My point was, to wish people would shut up about Huggins, he was either gone then or shortly after then. Shoulda been, will give you two years and AK will be your successor. I like Mick, give him time.....heckuva recruiter. He doesn't deserve what's been said about him in places.
  21. Yes. I read that article. It's actually relevant to this discussion; the elephants are losing out to humans in the competition for resources that are insufficient to sustain the human overpopulation. If elephants were carnivores, the problem might partially rectify itself. well that's not quite true, the way you phrased it is that we and the elephants are in competition for the same resources; when the elephants are loosing out to our vanity (they have something attached to them that we want, but don't need)
  22. Meanwhile...... AK Gets SEC coach of the year down @ 'ole Miss.. (If bearcat fans could take off their Rose Colored Huggins Glasses for a moment they can realize that Zim's biggest mistake was letting Kennedy go --)
  23. Don't forget about Ford, Princeton SD, Park 42 Office Park, The Postal Dist Center. Sharonville encompasses the industrial area from Sharon Road on the south to Crescentville Road on the North, Chester Road on thw West over to Reading Road on the East. They all don't cross over that RR x-ing though ;-) ^After conducting a feasibility study on the project, which would construct the road beneath the railroad tracks, eliminating a railroad crossing,.............. Uh, Over?
  24. Its depressing that we have become a country of lawyers, lobbyists and politicos. Of the millions of dollars going thru Washington to pay lobbyists and PAC's and all that crap, just a drop could make this dream come true. So could the Sierra Club, or some other PAC step in and give a donation?
  25. ^See this month's NGM....sad news still for elephants
