Cincinnati: Pendleton: Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati
Heck no. Look at Detroit for a case example on an urban casino and the impact of it bringing people into downtown. Even if a couple of people step outside the casino, it's bringing more into the downtown area and potentially could "stay" at an OTR bar or whatnot. What about people that would have gone to FS, Rock Bottom, etc. but now go to the Casino? You would think that would hurt the downtown business owners. Also, wasn't a group that opposed Issue 3 made up of local downtown business owners? I could be making that up but I thought I heard that.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Thanks, but that is an endorsement for No on 9. I'm trying to see who I should vote for council based a lot on their support for the streetcar. Thanks everyone for the info.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Does anyone have a list of council candidates that are pro-actively for the streetcar? I've seen a list go around but when I looked at the webpages for those people, a lot didn't list that they were for the streetcar so I have a hard time believing it. Some I know for sure are such as Bortz, Tony Fisher, Laure Quinlivan, but others I'm not quite so sure about.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
If it really were a yea or nea on the streetcar, I don't know how adamantly "no on 9" I would be... I hope COAST makes note of that. If they only wanted to stop the streetcar, the amendment should have made it clean and simple.. the city cannot build streetcars of any type, even if it's light rail running on street. However when they wrote it to include rail of any type, and specifically made it so it had to be voted on again... it made my mind up for me. I'm not anti-COAST at all, in fact on principal I agree with them completely on most issues of gov't spending. I just don't like the way they wrote their charter amendment. The same goes for Issue 8. If think DanB is correct, in that most Yes or No votes are going to come down to each voter's opinion of the streetcar plan specifically, despite the fact that the charter amendment broadly affects ALL types of rail. I hope that isn't true, but I fear that it is. I disagree. I know a good amount of people that are against the streetcar and also against issue 9. Even people like Cunningham are against issue 9 even though he is against a streetcar. The only thing I worry about on this issue is confusion among voters on the wording of the issue. I don't think issue 9 will come close to passing if people understand the issue when voting.

Cincinnati: University of Cincinnati: Development and News
I don't have stats to back it up but I would disagree with that just based on how it was when I went there 5+ years ago. The majority of CoB students lived around campus when I went there. I would think that number has gone over the years.

I just noticed my first Yes on 9 sign yesterday. It is right before the new Walmart heading north bound on Red Bank Rd.

I have been to Portland many times for work and stayed downtown. The comparison is good not only because Portland is a pretty similar city to Cincinnati but Portland has an awesome city center. By far and away the best downtown I've ever been to. Obviously it's different than Chicago and New York, but from a mid-size city perspective, Portland is incredible. And that reason has a whole lot to do with the streetcar. The Pearl District which is awesome as well, is what it is because of the streetcar.....This is why it is such a good comparison. I'd love it if Cincinnati's city center could only become half as nice as Portland's.

Move a integral part of the university 15 miles away from campus? No thanks.

I agree. Whereas the streetcar does great things for the surrounding area, casinos are quite the opposite. I guess theoretically they could design a casino that would provide economic benefits to the area but generally people drive to the casino, park, lose their money, then drive back home.

??? Where did you hear this? I've heard it from a couple different places. Nothing concrete or official yet to my knowledge, but I know the idea is floating around. Apparently US Bank wants them there and would be willing to pay for renovations to get their games moved there. The Shoemaker center is outdated for basketball use and they need a new arena. But they don't have the money to build a new arena where the Shoe is and it's used for other sports/events.

I believe UC is looking into moving basketball to US Bank. If that happens I think US Bank is planning major renovations, so you could probably kiss the move of arenas goodbye.

Cincinnati Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News
Ha! Love the picture. Either way, no matter what beer they sell, I'm still stoked for this place!

Nor do I, and I don't have anything personally invested in this place. I just suggested what I would have preferred. The insults of "here you go again" just kind of pissed me off. Similar to your personal attack of "you snoots". I am anything but, I just prefer a good beer. And how I have stated multiple times now, there isn't anything wrong with cheap beer, but I (THIS IS JUST MY OPINION) don't think low quality beer should be sold at a brewery. And I was pointing out that there are restaurants that don't serve all kinds of beer. RockBottom and Hofbrauhaus make very good business from selling their own high quality beer. I love what Greg Hartmann (sp?) is doing and he obviously will do whatever he thinks is best for his business. If he serves Bud Light and Hudy there, I will still frequent the place. I'd just prefer them to stick to high quality beers, that is all.

There I go again? I've already stated if you took the time to read my posts that those light beers serve a purpose. I'm not just talking craft beers. I'm talking quality beers, they are two different things. People will go down regardless. It doesn't stop the business at Rock Bottom and Hofbrau. And as I've said, I haven't had 14k so if it is actually a quality beer than I'm all for it. Hude Delight and Burger Beer are not quality beers, they are beers that lack quality but are sold for cheap. That, IMO, shouldn't be included in a Lager House, regardless if it used to be brewed in Cincinnati. Celebrate the heritage of beer by selling quality beer, not crap beer that is sold at a discount. 99% of light beers taste the same and have the same cheap ingredients.

Restaurants always offer budget beers. How would the Lager House be any different? The goal is to provide options for your whole customer base. The Lager House--the way I see it--will be a celebration of Cincinnati beer culture. Why should it or we ignore any of it selectively. The fact that several former breweries' recipes are all under one roof, so to speak, (and will actually be brewed under one roof) ensures tremendous stability for each brand. Even though I prefer certain classes of beer over others, I want the Lager House to be a destination for beer snobs and casual drinkers alike. Why shut anyone out? I'd rather someone who only drinks Miller Lite to visit the Lager House, switch to a local brew of slightly higher caliber, and support local business. That isn't true. The two breweries I can think of around here (Rockbottom and Hofbrauhaus) don't offer budget beers. It is all premium quality beer. That doesn't mean some beer isn't lighter, but it is still quality beer. I wouldn't want a Brewery to sell beer that isn't of good quality. Beer such as Hudy Delight and Burger may be good for selling in masses and as a cheap beer but I don't think they are best suited for a brewery.

I don't want to make it sound like I attest having those beers around. I would just prefer those not to be served at the new restaurant. I think the Lager House should stick mostly to the premium beers in his arsenal. It has been a long time since I've had Little Kings so maybe my tastes were different then. And for Hudy Delite, I just don't like light beer and haven't really tasted any light beers that are of good quality, especially for German beer standards. I don't remember 14-K. Does it more closely resemble a Budweiser?

Christian Moerlein labels are great, but Burger, Little Kings, and Hudepol (I think those are under the CM umbrella) is/was terrible. They may serve a niche but that niche definitely isn't quality beer.

I agree, and they really could have used a building of this caliber on the far north end of the CBD. But..if it was 3rd st or nothing at all, I'd take 3rd st.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, but are these garages going to be connected to the Reds and Freedom Center garages or are they completely separate. Also, will this connect in with the RTC?
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I walk past the construction every day and there are at least 50 workers constantly working on the garage from the time I get into work until the time I leave. I don't know how long it should take but they are working like crazy down there.
