Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
There is currently a huge separation between the Banks and CBD. Physically but also mentally. I work down there and I rarely ever grab lunch at the banks because it seems so far away when you have to walk over a highway in addition to 2nd and 3rd street. The caps would make a big difference, not to mention that they could put those caps to good use.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but...does the streetcar always stop/start at designated streetcar boarding locations or is it like a bus where if someone requests a stop it will stop at the nearest possible spot? I had always assumed it started and stopped at the same locations regardless if anyone was getting off or on.

What about that would be ego driven? I don't get how ego has anything to do with it.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
Why even introduce a new name for the building/subsidiary if you know it's going to be temporary? Just spit balling, but maybe because now that dunnhumby USA is no longer part of dunhummby (subsidiary of Tesco) they needed to separate out the names. I'm not a lawyer and didn't think this was necessary but maybe it had something to do with it. Or maybe they just didn't want to cause any confusion. Either way, considering it's going to be a wholly owned subsidiary of Kroger, it probably doesn't matter what it's name is.

It will be a fully owned division of Kroger, so I assume most people will just say, "I work for Kroger." They also said it is a temporary name. My guess is they would call it "eighty four fifty one" rather than how it looks. Sort of like saying "Fifth Third" instead of "Five divided by Three". Though this acquisition makes sense for Kroger I'm kind of disappointed it happened because it takes a sizeable growth company off the list of notable Cincinnati companies. dunnhumby also has great benefits and though Kroger's aren't terrible, they aren't close to dunnhumby's.

Ohio Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas (DORA / Open Container)
100% agree with the first part. The fact that I can't enjoy a nice alcoholic beverage at a park is beyond irritating (don't get me wrong, I still do enjoy them at parks but I have to be careful). I'm an adult. Beer is legal. Why can't I walk down the street with a beer? If I cause a scene, then arrest/ticket me. Not so sure about the drinking age, but not totally against it either.

Ohio Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areas (DORA / Open Container)
I was there on a regular weeknight when things were boorish and out-of-control. I wouldn't want to live around that. I don't want Cincinnati's national image to become police babysitting the drunks. I don't want to see hoards of 30-55 year-olds getting drunk and whooping in public. Get a life. That sounds like a life to me! I love getting drunk and whooping in public.

Thanks for the explanation? So then I'm assuming there will be a lot of wires on the 2nd street turns?
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Why do the overhead wires look so terrible in that photo? I thought the wires were going to be pretty minimal?

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Johnny Rockets was terrible. Bad service, overpriced burgers and shakes. I'm looking forward to something else taking the spot.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
But their hasn't been anything announced officially for AC yet, correct?

Cincinnati: Downtown: Autograph Collection Hotel (Anna Louise Inn)
AC Hotels and Autograph Collection Hotels are two different brands by Marriott. There's still potential to have both downtown. Downtown can support many more hotels. We have a serious shortage of rooms in this city and are completely underprepared for our growing tourism industry. As my friend who is a manager at the Westin puts it, "Cincinnati can't build hotels fast enough." My bad, thanks for the clarification. I just assumed that's what AC stood for. Hopefully this doesn't affect the AC at the Banks at all as a hotel there should do great business.

So much for having this at The Banks as Randy Simes reported last week. Though I think an AC hotel fits this spot better it sure would have been nice to have something at The Banks.

I'm definitely not an architect and don't work at dunnhumby so I'm really more interested in the outside and I love it. So different than anything else and in this case it doesn't seem to be different just because it's different. Seems to me like it's completely different but cool at the same time. Inside looks fine to me, especially the outside decks but again, I don't work there.

Is there any plans for the opposite end of where Yard House is?
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I think this will be a busy stop with people transferring from Government Square to get to The Banks. Are people going to jump on the street car from Gov't square to the banks? Or are you just saying it's going to be crowded as people are walking from one to the other?

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: Old St. George Redevelopment
^^ No they don't. Say what you want about Crossroads (I have some issues with them myself) but they do incredible things for this community.

Purchase by Kroger? Unless I missed something Kroger hasn't purchased dunnhumby.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
They almost need a bridge or something. That's a wide road to be running through the middle of a park and has a decent amount of traffic on it.

Cincinnati Brewery / Beer / Alcohol News
^ Panther is very good. I'm a huge craft beer fan and understand the prices will be higher, but I can't figure out why the locals can't offer lower prices than craft beer coming from California. Local bars should have all the local breweries and offer them at a lower price.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Every time I go to Chicago it's about 5 1/2 hours - to downtown Chicago that is. A big reason is because I've never been where it hasn't taken 15-30 minutes to actually get to where I'm trying to park downtown. So maybe it'd be quicker to get to the burbs, but I'd suspect this rail would go downtown (and sorry for the ignorance, I'm sure it's stated somewhere). If you could get me to chicago in the same time as driving for a decent cost I'd much rather do that than have to worry about having a car and paying for parking.

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
Why would they design it to buy the garage floors rather than just add the capability to build higher? I assume cost but if they replace garage floors with office I'd assume there would be a concern about lack of parking, especially if they convert all three floors. Seems interesting.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
I asked this years ago but I think it still applies: why isn't the city doing anything to sell the streetcar? All we see are negative articles and comments but we never (or very rarely) see any positive comments from the administration about the benefits of the streetcar. Why don't they have a graphic of all the businesses that have opened or are planning on opening on the streetcar route? It seems like any comments about the streetcar that are supportive are reactive to a negative article of some sort. The city needs to be proactive in marketing the positives of the streetcar.

I don't know who was expecting an iconic building but that doesn't mean people can't be disappointed with the design. As for footing the bill, GE got a HUGE incentive, it wouldn't hurt to have stipulations on the building that you are going to put there.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
I must not have a good eye for this because the before and after renderings look almost identical to me. They just appear to have a slightly different light to them. Personally, and it's just my opinion, but I think both still look terrible.
