Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
The color of the skin of the person who owns the business should matter zilch. Were those white owned business subsidized because they were white? I sure as hell hope not. If they subsidize any business it should be based on solid financial analysis, not race.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding it but couldn't the stops being changed? And if so, wouldn't that affect where the curves are placed?

Sherman, those restaurants in OTR are mostly funded by rich families. How many rich black families are there? Not many. There are thousands of rich white aunts and uncles throwing money at their young relatives. So what. That doesn't mean the City should fund them just because they don't have rich families to support them. I'm white and I don't have a rich family to support me, should the city throw money at me? If The Banks needs more diversity than the market will dictate that.

it would be in everyone's best interest if Mahogony's succeeded but this comes as no surprise and is why a lot of people were quite upset about the decisions made by the city to provide them money.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
What I meant was good lucking getting any rail, road, highway, bus system, etc through Mariemont's South 80 properties. And rightfully so.

Cincinnati: Eastern Corridor
They're wasting their time trying to get rail to go right through Mariemont and their South 80 land. I don't see any way this happens.

Still to this day it's amazing how much misinformation there is around the streetcar. Just reading on the other site and it took everything I had not to chime in. According to them, panhandlers will be overtaking the streetcar. Never mine the fact that there will be fares. http://csnbbs.com/thread-668191.html

I think COAST would have a hard time getting enough signatures at this point. Too much money already spent.

Nevermind, just saw the cost to cancel include the incurred costs so my math doesn't work. So now I have $71 million to complete, $12-41 million to cancel. If that is correct, it doesn't look good.
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
So the total $105 million is including what has already been spent? Not what is still projected? So $105 total costs to city minus $34 which has already been spent gives $71 million to complete? Am I looking at this correctly? Then to cancel it'd be between $50 - $80 million. So in theory it could cost the city $10 million more to cancel than complete.

Amazing, but sad. If those that signed would have just voted we wouldn't be in this predicament.

John can correct me if I'm wrong, but what I think he is getting at that the 19th may not necessarily be the true deadline - or the feds may return the money later - just as in taxes you can get an extension. I don't see how this is possible but that's at least how I'm interpreting John's comments. Also, to the above comment, I think it would be a very bad idea to have a public accounting firm to provide a go/no-go. They aren't in that business. They can tell you how much has been spent and how much it could cost to cancel and that's about it. I don't think they should even factor in operational costs as that is a whole separate story. If they were to cover operational costs they would need to cover revenue generated from operational, both direct in rider fees, advertisements, etc and indirect revenue from taxes generated from economic development. How in the world do they plan to get this completed in 9 days? No way.

I have to believe that a streetcar to uptown benefits UC tremendously. Obviously some people involved in the project have had discussions with Santa Ono, yet he is very quiet (which isn't like him) on this subject. Too many big players have been quiet on this. But now it might be too little too late. Business CEO's and local owners should have stepped up their support a long time ago, including UC and Santa Ono.

Dietrick mentioned the 100k figure today and they ran with it Naturally they believe that number but not the other numbers about canceling the project from Deitrick right, they just forgot to ask him for that in writing.

For these votes that are counting 5-4, who are the for and against? I'm guessing: Against: Smitherman Winburn Flynn Mann Murray For: PG Young Simpson Seelbach I'm surprised Flynn and Murray are this opposed to the streetcar that they are voting against delaying the committee vote for a little bit.

I have very little faith in politicians, but I am still flabbergasted that someone could listen to local business owners, contractors, etc, and still decide to cancel this project in addition to the fact that the cost to cancel is very close to the cost to complete. Unbelievable.

Because this would have to be paid for by the city. The former city council wouldn't have wanted to spend money on this, as it would lend credence to the idea that Cincinnati can simply dump and run on its contracts, AND it would be more "wasted money" ammunition for the other side. Thanks - though IMO it seemed that the majority of uniformed voters thought you could cancel it at no cost; the study at least showed how much it would cost to cancel and I think would have given many second thought. But like you say, it would have been impossible for the former council to spend money on it.

Someone needs to get a good picture of Smithermann, Mann, and Winburn sitting next to each other. That would be a great picture depicting our current "leaders of Cincinnati".
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Can someone tell me what prompted the study to determine cancellation costs, and why this wasn't performed prior to the election? I think if done prior to the election we may have had a different outcome.

I don't live anywhere near the line and am not directly benefiting from it as a property own it but am a strong proponent. Perhaps you should get out and talk to more people. You really think all the supporters live on the line? Have you ever actually looked up the population of people that live on the line? Obviously not.

Flynn was obviously just trying to make himself look good when he said he would look at the numbers and weigh the decision. There is no way he could meet with Dietrick and go over the numbers and plan and come away with the opinion that it's in the city's best interest to cancel the streetcar if he went into the meeting with anything close to an open mind. I expect Winburn to do the same. It's for show. Did the feds say they would remove funding if a delay occurs? If so, then even a delay will kill the project because I can't see it being a good investment without the fed funding.

Does anyone have a list of current and planned buildings/conversions occurring in the CBD? There have been so many announcements lately I can't keep up with all the progress.
