  1. That'll never happen. What should and may be possible, though still a long shot, is to get some of the companies that have recently moved or announced plans to open shop along the lines say the streetcar weighed into their decision. I have to believe the locally owned OTR shops are strong supporters of the streetcar. They need to speak up as well as some of the bigger companies/hotels/etc that are in the CBD that recently moved business here.
  2. Maybe someone should hold Winburn and PG accountable (I know, accountability and politics don't go together). I know there is a quote from Winburn saying he will stop opposing the streetcar - that was after, I believe, the vote to provide additional funding. And PG said many times he will listen to the voters who basically approved the streetcar. Then again, they are politicians so they will twist their own words to make them look better.
  3. I'd be okay with a just phase 1a for now - because if people see it successful they will want 1b, and Cranley will use his political b.s. to turn his position around and pretend like he was for the streetcar all along, which I'd also be okay with. But I highly question whether phase 1a is safe with a streetcar opponent as a mayor and an almost entire council that is against the project.
  4. Wow, I can't believe Qualls and the pro-streetcar candidates did so poorly. This is a huge, huge blow. WTF is wrong with the people who vote for Smitherman?
  5. “A property along that route that would’ve sold for $15,000 now can sell for $100,000,” added Kiefer, who owns a furniture restoration business in West Price Hill. “She will end up making more profit from the sale.” hold the bus! Is a streetcar opponent really insisting that the streetcar can improve property value that much? Oh the irony.
  6. Those tweets from Dusty Rhodes seem completely irresponsible from an elected official, regardless of what side he is on.
  7. Wouldn't the caps only be between a few streets? So were not even talking about a long tunnel, maybe a 3 or 4 block tunnel.
  8. There are multiple alternatives for bypassing FT Washington Way if you are claustrophobic and they wouldn't even be much of an inconvenience.
  9. That's silly. So a person shouldn't complain if a highway is to be built when they knowingly bought a house near a road?
  10. I'm not an architect by any means, though I do enjoy architecture, but while this building doesn't wow me, it seems like it would fit nicely into downtown. I like having a different mix of building d/t and this adds a little variety and isn't completely cookie cutter like the Banks is.
  11. No, the person negotiating for the county (wasn't it Bedinghaus who is now employed with the Bengals?) should be tarred and feathered. As much as I hate Mike Brown for being a terrible owner, he did what he was supposed to do and got the best deal for him and the team.
  12. I'll sign the petition. It's annoying as hell. Freedom Way (the only one I can remember), Joe Nuxhall Way, Pete Rose Way, Rosa Parks, etc..Stick with the original names, there are other ways to memorialize them.
  13. Not to kick someone while their down, but I wonder if there are any Detroit companies looking to get out. I'm sure I'm stating the obvious but I think Cincy/Downtown needs to lure some companies in from outside the region rather than just getting some that are relocating from within.
  14. And various parts of the bike lane look like they were done by someone who was drunk.
  15. That's interesting. Sure didn't look like a parking lot to me. They are making it look very nice for a parking lot, especially considering the walkways they are building into it and the signage that is being built. And if cars are parked there you really won't be able to see too much of the pavers. Doesn't seem worth the (I presume) added expense. What exactly is a dumbo lot?
  16. Does anyone have any clue what's being built at the corner of second and Broadway underneath the overpasses? They are laying out brick pavers, sidewalks, and stone/concrete signage but it seems like a really odd place for something as it's right underneath two pretty low highway overpasses. I think it is part of the Banks project but could be wrong. link to where I'm talking about: https://www.google.com/maps?q=45202&ll=39.099431,-84.505814&spn=0.001559,0.002411&sll=41.83373290000001,-87.7319639&sspn=0.43393880753837843,0.8793383883430035&t=m&dg=opt&hnear=Cincinnati,+Ohio+45202&z=19&layer=c&cbll=39.099515,-84.505725&panoid=bhqRk8msUfBiiE8qSmTcog&cbp=12,219.65,,0,11.31
  17. That is part of their job. I didn't exactly mean it that way; what I was saying is that there's no way that they can dedicate the amount of time defending the project in the media that the fanatical opponents who have dedicated their entire existence to stopping the project have. I agree with that. But I do think we could/should hear from them more often.
  18. That is part of their job.
  19. The question is why isn't Mallory, Qualls, Donohey, etc, on wlw and all the other stations like the village idiots are? Do they not want to be or does 700 wlw not want them to be on? Because they should be getting their voices heard as well but we rarely hear from them.
  20. ^ I like the thought of having a good mix of commercial and residential right next to each other.
  21. Well this is a big ol' kick in the groin.
  22. Didn't the city subsidize or lend them money to open there? I never went there but friends tell me it sucked. Too many choices nowadays to server mediocre food at high prices. I'm surprised Johnny Rockets is still there. Been there twice and it was a complete ripoff. I think Yard House will do much better.
  23. Findlay Market to the Banks (2nd Street). Thanks.
  24. Can someone remind what the initial loop is? I've gotten lost with all the changes. IIRC, it's not initially going up to Clifton but it will be extending all the way to the Banks, correct?
  25. $450k for a playground? That's going to be a nice playground.
