Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, but apparently you are in good hands if you played football at OSU: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2012/06/20/no-resume-needed.html
  2. Looks like next week some time: http://www.wlwt.com/news/entertainment/New-restaurant-to-open-at-Banks-next-week/-/9837584/14735340/-/jiw0lo/-/index.html
  3. not sure when it's opening but when I went past it on Tuesday there were people in line inside and the TV's were on, yet there was still construction outside. Not sure if they did a soft opening or something but it looked like people waiting to order or get a drink, I couldn't tell.
  4. Nice. Where'd you read it? It'll be 10,000+ sq ft and in front of the NURFC and to the east, according to this video. Via 700WLW: http://cincinnati.com/blogs/developingnow/2012/05/08/yard-house-restaurant-coming-to-banks/
  5. They've been down since yesterday and the rest of the area on the south side of Mehring is open as well. I walked through it and overall I'm very impressed. When it's all completed it's going to be very, very nice.
  6. ^ an article I just read about the Yard House says it will have decks and patios overlooking the Ohio river so maybe it'll be rooftop. That'd be awesome in that location.
  7. Well eventually (hopefully) there will be a trail from the riverfront all the way to the little miami trail and then to Cleveland. Maybe I'm just dreaming that it actually gets completed in my lifetime.
  8. That is unbelievable hilarious, and pathetic at the same time....there was my 3 seconds of fame!!
  9. Can someone fill me in on why the city would ever require parking spaces to begin with? I would think a developer might want parking spaces, but can't figure out why the city would require it.
  10. And I don't necessarily agree with that either so unfortunately it doesn't provide prospective. One is just a lesser evil (hyperbole used there). I'm not an opponent, I'm a strong proponent who just happens to dislike eminent domain. They are taking it if the owner doesn't want to get rid of it. Just because they aren't compensated doesn't mean it isn't taken from them. If I walk up to a kid and take their toy but throw some money at them I think people would still consider it stealing. As to your second paragraph, like I said, I know there are times when eminent domain is the only option. But a zig zag highway reference doesn't really apply here. I don't know the circumstances here so maybe someone can fill me in: what other options were explored and what made them choose this location? Were there other locations but the city didn't like the price tag,or didn't like the location as well as this location? Or was this the only legitimate option?
  11. But from my understanding the building isn't dilapidated, so if it is vacant, that is the property owners choice. If it was in bad condition I could see a case being made. Also, there isn't anything wrong with someone from California owning property in Ohio. Are you telling me there are no other choices to house this facility? So a select group of people essentially made the decision that they can take this property away from someone because they'd rather have a maintenance facility there. I'm sorry, I know there may be a few good uses for eminent domain, but IMO it needs to be a last result and all options should be explored first before people can take property away from someone else. Was that the case here?
  12. Eminent domain sucks and is bs in this situation. I really hope it doesn't come to that and if it does, as much as I will love having a streetcar, I hope the city loses.
  13. I like to stick up for our city council but this is getting crazy. Way too many red flags to be giving this kind of money away. Time to nix the deal.
  14. Yea, isn't it managed by Stone Creek? That should tell you something right there.
  15. yup, Streetcar will help bridge that. I could be wrong but I don't see too many workers around 4th st hopping on the streetcar to take it to the banks for lunch. I also don't see too many people wanting to pay money to ride the streetcar to/fro lunch, especially for shorter distances.
  16. Why do you continually play the race card? I would have had no idea Mohagany was even a minority owned business had it not been mentioned in the article. I think the restaurant sounds awesome and a place I'd enjoy, but that has nothing to do with it. I just don't understand why the city is giving them a grant. That is prime real estate and they should be able to draw businesses in without giving grants. I don't follow or post on this board as much as you all so I don't recall the Toby Keith discussion, but I'd be upset if they gave them a grant as well. I'm not entirely happy about the loan that was mentioned for them either. Why aren't banks giving these loans? As for the vote, wasn't Seelbach the one quoted in the first article about Mohagany's coming to the Banks as being the guy who did the analysis and determined it was a good investment? Or am I thinking of someone else? The concept of "race card" is authoritarian in itself. It's the act of telling someone else how to feel about the emotional and social ramifications of a set of experiences that have educated them on where they stand in society. Falsifying their account of an incident without properly considering the realities of ethnics in the 21st, 20th, 19th centuries, etc. If you're a member of the majority applying the race card concept to an argument created by a minority, you're promoting bigotry, the father of racism. If you're a minority applying the concept to anyone, you're fighting for racism. As for the loans, I think both Toby's and Mahogany's will take off, sounds like Toby's already has, so that's good for Cincinnati. People on the riverfront is a sticking point for Americans. We want to see vibrancy on the water, and many cities don't have it, including many of Cincinnati's market competitors like St. Louis. I want to see the Banks be a repopulating force in the core because what living close to it means, not because who got what financial assistance. The 600 large Mahogany's received was mostly for jumpstart, long-term infrastructure. Not willing to go to fiscally irresponsible just yet on it. not really sure what you're even talking about on the first paragraph, but whatever, I agree mostly with your second paragraph. Like I said, Mahogany's sounds really cool and hopefully it succeeds, but that really isn't the point. Same with Toby Keith's. It just surprises me that these incentives need to be offered at The Banks. Especially grants. I know bank financing is tight but they still will usually loan it out if they deem it a good investment.

  18. I thought I smelled some fresh grains going by there the other day. I can't wait to try some of the head brewers recipes. I'm not a big fan of CM's beers, though much better than macro brews.
  19. Wow seriously? I don't know of anybody that has gotten family loans like this. Judging how you give out loans or grants based on skin color is just wrong no matter how you slice it. I do. When I talk to people about buying their first home, it doesn't surprise me when they say 'when my parents help me with the down payment...' And I know a black person that has been helped from their family, so what? I didn't get any help, should the government help me out? I guess not since I'm white. I'm not sure how people think that isn't being racist. Make decisions and giving advantages to certain people based on the color of their skin is racism and discrimination. Atlas - there is the old saying that two wrongs don't make a right. As long as the government is still making decisions based on skin color, it isn't going to change. I'm not saying I'm against equal opportunity but at times I don't believe this is equal opportunity. Sorry, hopefully this is my last post as it's a big off topic, reverse racism just aggravates me. I'm actually looking forward to Mahogany opening, I just wish it was under better business conditions.
  20. yikes, tell me you aren't serious. even if you were why does government have to provide a level playing field for private businesses? i just wish the government would force college and professional basketball to create a level playing field for white/Asian/Hispanic people. I may still be playing basketball if that was the case.
  21. A private business shouldn't be given a grant because they are black owners. If the black community, white community, Asian community, whoever, needs more publicity then go out and earn it like everyone else.
  22. If this is a good investment, why aren't banks lending them money? I don't get this. Is the market struggling so bad that The Banks can't get good tenants without offering crazy incentives?

i don't know much about it, but no tunnel exists today right? that sounds awfully expensive and cost prohibitive to build a tunnel through Mt. Auburn.
  24. Look who is on the board of 3CDC....probably not realistic though. http://www.3cdc.org/who-we-are/board-of-directors/ Yikes, looks like 3CDC is run by all the CEO's in Cincinnati. Although it also looks like that's where the funding comes from. CEO's generally aren't going support something if it doesn't benefit their company.
  25. just playing devil's advocate here, but is a public space really public when it's rented out? I understand it's probably away for the parks to make money, but renting out the lawn space for private use doesn't seem like the best option, especially this lawn space that sounds like it could get a lot of use. Granted, it is called the event lawn so maybe that's what they intended it to be used for. btw - sorry Cynus, regardless of my above statement, it sounds like you got screwed.
