Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I think the biggest reason for the traffic lights going away were complaints from Edgewater and Lakewood residents. There were some folks at the meeting who still expressed their concern with speed being reduced to 35MPH.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I went to the meeting last Thursday and came away rather impressed with the plans. The engineering/design/environmental work is to start this upcoming year with work starting in mid-2010. The first area to receive attention is the pedestrian tunnel at the end of W76 to the beach. This work will include making it ADA complaint by replacing the steps between the railroad tracks and the Shoreway with a graded ramp. They are also going to tie in the entrance on the park side to the existing multi-use trails. Later phases of the project include extending multi-use trails to the Detroit-Superior Bridge. Later in 2010 or 1st half of 2011, they will start work on the W73 underpass. Before this can occur, they have to re-align a sewer interceptor that currently runs along the tracks. The other new intersections at W54 and W45 will probably not start until something is done about the Inner Belt, as the Shoreway will be a major detour route. The work on W73rd can occur because it does not affect the Shoreway traffic flow. Overall I was quite impressed with the plan and it looks like this is finally going to become reality after years of discussion. Very detailed information and charts are available at this site: http://www.dot.state.oh.us/projects/ClevelandUrbanCoreProjects/LakefrontWest/Pages/default.aspx

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Myself and a number of the folks from Battery Park will be at the meeting Thursday. Hopefully there will be good news to report.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
They started putting the roof on the power house yesterday while I was at work. Unfortunately it was too dark to take photos when I got home and I go straight to work when I wake up, so nothing to show for it yet. I'll try to snap a couple shots if I get a chance to in the light, but feel free to beat me to it.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
I have been taking some as things have been going up. I'll try to get around to posting some soon. They are also still working (slowly) on the powerhouse, but it is certainly progressing.

UO Cleveland Happy Hour discussion
I might be able to stop by, but I know I have to drop my girlfriend off at the airport sometime early tomorrow evening, so I would be running late. How would I recognize the group and what time do you think you would be going over to the Ranch?

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
^ I need to hide that article from my girlfriend. She has been wanting to get a vespa forever. She'll lament having moved into BP earlier this year and not getting one.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
^I concur with the scale comment. You have to remember that to get to BP you have to drive through two blocks of existing neighborhood. If you got there and suddenly there were towers, it would look quite out of place. I think one of the loft buildings might be taller than the existing structures, but not by much. It will blend in well with the neighborhood and the old warehouses. As for the metal steps, we haven't had any problem with them. The back steps are wooden.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Krazy Mac's Cafe (aka Cheddars, aka Snickers) 5800 Detroit Ave, Cleveland, OH 44102 It is on the northwest corner of Detroit and W. 58th. Across the street is the Happy Dog bar and up W. 58th is the Parkview-- both good places to stop by afterwards.

Cleveland: Whiskey Island Coast Guard Station Redevelopment
I had to use my necromancer powers to bring this thread back from the dead, but I do have some interesting information. My mother was in town yesterday and I was showing her around some places. I decided to walk to walk her out to the old Coast Guard Station. Usually there are just a handful of folk out there fishing, but this time there were at least a dozen "suits" climbing around the joint. They all had binders with a picture of the station and the word "restoration" on them. I spoke with a group of them that were there from the city and county. They were showing the site off to state and university (I didn't dig for specifics) to restore as a marine research or museum of some sort. One of the city guys said they were hoping some government funded project or a nonprofit would be able to do the work because they feared a for profit use would be doomed to fail because of the isolation of the site. Anyway, probably still a long time off till something happens, but it is nice to know the site is being shopped around.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
I saw that they took fencing down and cleared vegetation on the plot late last week and wondered if they were going to start moving. I went home for lunch today and saw they were actually started to dig downward, so it looks like they're starting to move on these. I really can't wait for more of the community to start to developing around us. I actually think our house was last structure to be completed and that was back in January. There should be more information after this Friday as there is an event for owners with Vintage and city officials then.

Cleveland: UO Bicycle Riding Group
Anyone still interested in another ride? I finally got myself a new bike (going to try to not have this one stolen like my last two). I used to ride the industrial valley all the time when I lived in Tremont....actually used to ride through the old warehouses that were demolished for Steelyard Commons. That was quite surreal going through them. There were three in a row, each about the size of a football field and you could just roll through from one to the next. The lights were on for some reason I could never figure out. I kept expecting someone to jump out in front of me, but I never saw a soul while I was there. Anyway, I would definitely be up for a group ride sometime before the weather turns.

Where is the best place to get pizza?
^^ Nunzio's does indeed deliver to Battery Park. We ordered from them a few weeks ago. Delivery in under 25 minutes and it was quite tasty.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
Are we back to calling this the "Union Gospel Press" again? I have not seen it referred to as "Tremont Place" in any of the articles posted today or yesterday. I'd take the UGP name any day over TP.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Fox Channel 8 was at the volleyball courts at Battery Park this morning.... http://www.myfoxcleveland.com/myfox/pages/InsideFox/Detail?contentId=7085960&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=5.7.1 While it is cool they are featuring an aspect of the development, it would have been nice if they could have panned the camera around a bit to show what has been built so far.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Yeah, but they stand out a bit like a sore thumb right now. And they will continue to at least until the Shoreway is connected to w58. Manschke can't like that is being being delayed.

Cuyahoga County: Corruption Probe
I just love the PD's reporting. Here is a caption from a photo of a u-haul truck parked next to Dimora's house: "FBI and IRS agents carry personal items out of Cleveland councilman Jimmy Dimora's Independence home and into a U-Haul." (this has been corrected as of 4:30PM) There was also an instance earlier where they were saying Russo lived in Gates Mills and not on Wilson Mills Road in Mayfield, but that has since been corrected.

Where is the best place to get pizza?
Since there seems to be a lack of representation from NWO, I am going to put forward J & G Pizza Palace in Sylvania (Toledo sub). It is family owned/operated and located on Main Street in downtown Sylvania. Excellent thin crust, round, but square cut pizza. They also have awesome gyro's and greek salads. The place is small and they do a huge carry out business, so it can take up to an hour to get a table at prime time. Just thinking about the place is making me want to take a trip home to T-town ASAP!

Think I could get this zoned and build some great lofts/apts/condos?
^^ Bloc Party rules. You know them??

Cleveland: Development, Now & Then
^ So is that why the "Hard Rock" is in TC as opposed to a location closer to the Hall? Not sure where it could have been built closer, but I always wondered why it wasn't bit closer.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
^ That made me so sad when it closed. I had just started dating my girlfriend at that time and she lived in the Hat Factory right next door. I was going to come over one night and buy burritos on my way up to her place and it was closed. If it would have stayed open, I think I could have single handedly kept it open. 8-) Seriously though, I think they really jumped the gun with closing it, but it may have been about a year ahead of its time. Okay, back to E4th talk.
