  1. maybe you hafta watch out for the case kids who hang out with cia kids. as a case kid who "everyone at case" assumed went to cia, my clique and i managed to party pretty regularly.
  2. ^yeah if i really wanted to sound snobbish i would have said 'chain italian is so below me,' or 'i'm deeply offended by the thought of chain italian.' and no, i don't like bravo. the only time i was there was once this summer because i won a gift certificate in a raffle. the eggplant parmesan was a disappointing 2 slices. and to get back on topic, if this gets built, who knows, it might be the only indoor mall completed in the US in its year.
  3. ^this is going to sound snobbish, but in northeast ohio, with the abundance of italian restaurants, i'd never choose to eat chain italian. i'm not an akron person, but there have to be more authentic restaurants than bravo in summit county, luigi's, mayhaps. if you ask me, non-chains will give you better food, bigger portions, and at better prices. sorry this is veering OT
  4. of course property owners are paying. in that little slice of cleveland, property owners pay to shaker schools, not cleveland schools. open enrollment with paid tuition may very well be an option if you are outside of that section.
  5. cook co has 5.2 mil ppl
  6. ^the shaker schools site says: Area Served The City of Shaker Heights, plus a one-square-mile portion of the City of Cleveland (in the Shaker Square area). http://www.shaker.org/about/overview/facts.htm it doesn't mention the option of paying for shaker when you live in cleveland.
  7. municipalities (cities and villages), zip codes, and school districts are all separate lines on the map. for example, the city of seven hills is in 44131 with independence, but is in the parma school district. there's an area of south euclid in the cleveland hts-univ hts school district, not in south euclid-lyndhurst. the shaker square area in cleveland is part of the shaker hts school district. only occasionally do all the lines coincide.

I used to live on Overlook in Cleveland Hts (the house immediately west of waldorf towers) and i felt quite safe. It was walking distance to restaurants and groceries at cedar fairmount. So far it was my favorite neighborhood of the ones i've lived in.
  9. don't get me wrong, i'm all for attracting new business, but parking lot technology sounds anti-urban.
  10. steroids even at prescription doses may cause psychosis and psychotic patients may pose a threat to themselves or society at large.
  11. maybe gabriel brothers can fill the void, especially in toledo.
  12. one of the ~1950s ranches along the right of way for the jennings freeway was plopped on ridgewood in seven hills.
  13. sounds logical to me: close mental hospitals and let manic patients blow their savings in the lotto. that way there are no new jobs to create.

US 20 west of toledo in ohio is a real no-man's land. the amount of stuff really picks up one you hit indiana. i know this from my occasional shunpike excursions to chicago.
  15. The Toledo stop is at the moribund Southwyck mall. There are no anchors left open since Montgomery Ward closed years ago and Dillard's moved a couple miles to exurbia to a new lifestyle center a couple months ago. There are a bunch of restaurants in the immediate vicinity: McDonald's, Steak & Shake, Olive Garden, Waffle House, a toy-train-themed diner (?), and my favorite restaurant in the area: Tandoor of Toledo. I am not sure how much time you will have for lunch.

here's a demolished school worden elementary in wickliffe, closed in 1982, demolished in 2007 (i think?) It is the site of the new Wickliffe Community Center (whatever that entails). SORRY THIS PIC IS HORRIBLE, I JUST FOUND IT. here it is under demolition Worden had a very strange design. The classrooms in the front facing Worden Rd were all pentagons. The facade was jagged. Here's a crude representation: ______________ | | | | | | | | | \ /\ / \ / \ / \ / \ / ...and so on The other former elementary school in Wickliffe, Mapledale, is also demolished. In its place will be an "active adult community."
  17. ^waterloo is in north collinwood since it's north of 90
  18. Let's not forget the Toledo area's MI residents and Youngstown's PA residents. These metros are also getting the shaft. 8^)
  19. they may be bright but they sure are sheltered. i get the feeling that a lot of kids at private universities are used to mommy and daddy giving them whatever they want whenever they please. if that doesn't happen, they bitch and compain, which is what case kids are notorious for. i knew i couldn't take this piece too seriously, seeing the WEATHER as the first complaint. i had a blast at case. was it because i already lived in the cleveland area my whole life and had a car all 4 years, thus giving me unadulterated access to everything cleveland has to offer? maybe so, but my clique seemed to be more creative than the average case student. we created our own fun instead of having it laid out for us. also "where are the parks?" does rockefeller park ring a bell, or shaker lakes?

if you think cleveland's bad, try living in toledo. i exclusively meet people on myspace lately.
  21. p.s. the building you refer to as Hannah Hosp is actually Lakeside. i used to work on the 3rd floor. Hanna is the bldg immediately to the left when viewing it from Adelbert.
  22. the difference between the toledo and cleveland media markets is that about half of the people in the toledo area live in the city limits. cleveland has a third of of the population of cuyahoga county, but then there are all the burbs in outlying counties. what i'm trying to say is that people of the suburban mindset are more prevalent in toledo's city limits (with the large 60s annex areas). maybe they are less negative about toledo because they actually live in the city.
  23. and then there's the ut health science campus, sitting in a vast parking lot, resembling community college. the ravine in the middle of campus is ok i suppose.
  24. today i heard "soon enough, toledo will be a suburb of perrysburg, as long as the unions and democrats are in charge"
  25. undergrad: i went to case cuz they gave me the most money. the only other one i applied to was cornell which gave me a pittance. i know someone who found out about case cuz it had the longest name in the book.
