  1. ^there's no downtown dillards. there's one in the city limits at southwyck that is mostly junky outlet crap. it is a two-story but only the ground floor is open. it is probably a half mile north of maumee's city limits, if that. the southwyck people must be delusional if they think that they can keep dillards as an anchor upon redevelopment. that said, fallen timbers sounds even more ho-hum than i expected!
  2. scooters in downtown willoughby la gelateria (mmm grapefruit)
  3. ^pineland on michigan avenue in dearborn for middle eastern also red star virtually across the street for chinese (with vegan versions of meat dishes, if you want) there is a super cheap indian place in hamtramck (channa masala for $4.25) but i forgot the name of the place and the location. whoops!
  4. My mom was in the last kindergarten class (for half a year only) in Nottingham School before it closed in 1960 (give or take) and students were moved to Paul Bellamy (which is now also closed). I think the school was why there's a pedestrian bridge over I-90/SR 2 between 156th and 185th. IIRC, the school lot is now a scrap metal place. It shows up on Google Earth when you view schools and it comes up as historical.

wickliffe and seven hills aren't that bad. they are containment areas for aging eastern europeans, my parents and grandparents included. in their defense, wickliffe and seven hills both lack big box shopping blight and the accompanying traffic.
  6. ^i used to get sorta decent really cheap shit at that gap, ever since the new one at franklin park opened, i haven't found anything there that i liked. the gap might be going down the tubes. it closed at mentor's great lakes mall, which i thought was an ok operation.
  7. Rockefeller Rd becomes Miner Rd when going from Willoughby Hills to Highland Heights.

  10. maybe if marc's opened there it would siphon off some of the business from the walmart at severance. disgruntled slackers need jobs too! anyway, trader joe's is probably a better fit for the street.
  11. no one is really saying "in" for the last syllable of dayton. it's more like a syllabic N sound. after the glottal stop, it's just the N drawn out for a syllable's length.
  12. so what if they're dirty, marc's always has the best deals. it's one of the things i miss most about cleveland, living in toledo. where else can you find $7 shoes and cheap groceries?
  13. a good friend of mine made this one up: The Abyss at East Cleveland Crossing

As a student at MUO, i would love it if it would merge with UT. I don't particularly like the community college-esque architectural setup at MUO, or the feeling of being disconnected from students in other programs. However, the campus is viable and the school would not likely be relocated. However, if there was a way to move the campus from its South Toledo location I would probably jump for joy, as this area is as suburban as you can get, but within the city limits. Just to the west of the school at the corner of Byrne and Glendale there's a high-vacancy shopping plaza (Southland). But just across the street from the school, on Glendale, there's a totally new shopping center (Toledo Commons) featuring WALMART and a number of nondescript chain restaurants like Ruby Tuesday. When it comes to the name, Medical University of Ohio sounds very nondescript to me. University of Toledo College of Medicine (or whatever such name) would stick the school on a specific place on the map better than the nebulous "Ohio" designation. Of course, if I knew the first thing about the goings on at UT, I might change my tune.
  18. wouldn't continuing 90 over the turnpike eastbound until 480, then running it on 480 eastbound and 271 northbound be more feasible? then whatever is left of 90 could be renumbered as 2 if the shoreway or any other part becomes a surface road.

  21. here are a couple of other suggestions in the area: Ho Wah at La Place in Beachwood (the ma po tofu is perfect every time) El Tango Taqueria on Madison in Lakewood (veggie burritos with surprises in every bite: sweet potatoes, pineapple, peas, etc) Marotta's on Lee in Cleveland Hts. (pricey Italian, not too too veg friendly but i'm more than satisfied every time i'm there) p.s. i only eat meat by accident
  22. i love suburban hubris. that's also what the 'welcome to independence' signs say.
  23. ^if they're not online, scan 'em
  24. ^the independence public square is actually 2 blocks south of the intersection of chestnut and brecksville (just a minor nitpick). here's a mapquest image to view:
  25. willoughby has a main street and at the south end a triangle. chagrin falls has a triangle. bedford has a five-points intersection. independence has a square. westlake has crocker park.
