  1. JYP posted a post in a topic in Ohio Politics
This is a good-sounding idea that is bad policy. GoverningAffordable Housing and the Dubious Promise of Inclusionar...It doesn't create much new housing and distorts the housing market, providing little if any help for low-income households. It's no substitute for broad liberalization of zoning policies.
  2. But Nintendo already perfected this technology!
  3. Don't forget:
  4. Back to the topic at hand... Arena advocacy group launches petition, doesn't share financial backers Sydney Franklin Cincinnati Enquirer A group pushing to use the county sales tax to build a new arena in Cincinnati revealed several endorsements Tuesday – but has refused to say who is financially backing the effort. According to a press release obtained early by The Enquirer, Cincinnati City Councilmembers Meeka Owens and Seth Walsh, as well as former mayor John Cranley support the Hamilton County Growth Alliance's work to replace the 50-year-old Heritage Bank Center with a state-of-the-art arena. Former city councilmember Chris Bortz and community activist Ozie Davis, who is an employee of the alliance, also back the group's plans.
  5. I'd recommend reaching out to either Jeffries, Walsh or Cramerding.
  6. It looks like the Banks Master Plan RFQ is up. Interestingly, there is a desire for preliminary recommendations for Lot 24, anticipating a permitting review in early 2025 (pg. 28): https://thebankspublicpartnership.com/wp-content/uploads/RFQ-Urban-Planning-Services-4889-1653-2588-v.4-003-12DEC2024-update-rev3.pdf
  7. What better uses? It's highway-adjacent, so residential is not preferable. Office would be logical, but there is little to no demand that would not already be absorbed by other options. I'm not a fan of the city having so many big entertainment sports venues and would love to see mixed-use there. However, if they want an arena, let's limit the damage to places like the West End and maximize the opportunity for more challenging highway-adjacent sites like this one.
  8. Couldn't agree more. Great work!
  9. I don't see any questions with the Convention Center site. They are going to move forward with the city's approved plan. It comes down to staging, which is negotiable with ODOT if needed. Financing will take time, regardless of which option moves forward. This would not be unlike when the stadiums on the riverfront were built while Fort Washington Way was narrowed.
  10. There will be one travel lane in each direction with a center turn lane. They also better align some of the intersections that were too wide or at bad angles. More here: https://www.cincinnati-oh.gov/sites/dote/assets/Victory_Parkway/20240411_presentation.pdf

  12. He mentioned earlier this year that he intends to stick around and podcast from the hallways like in past years. There is no word on whether this is official. He and other StrongTowns leaders will also host an event as part of the CNU.32 Pub Crawl on Thursday evening at Northern Row.
  13. Thanks @ColDayMan! There are a lot of things going during and around CNU in Cincinnati so it would be great if UrbanOhioans can turn out! Correct me if I am wrong but I believe ColDay will be down on Tuesday (May 14th) so that would be a good opportunity to meet fellow UOers before the Congress starts. If any one is interested, let me or Chris know. I can help coordinate. One note/plug. Incremental Development Alliance will be doing an all day session at the Netherland Plaza on Tuesday and the StrongTowns National Gathering will be kicking off that afternoon in the same space. CNU is sharing their booking with these groups since they get the space for the whole week and do not use it till Wednesday. If you are curious and want to know more about CNU32 or want to register, here is the link to learn more: www.cnu.org/cnu32 I hope to see some familiar faces here in Cincy soon!
