GoverningAffordable Housing and the Dubious Promise of Inclusionar...It doesn't create much new housing and distorts the housing market, providing little if any help for low-income households. It's no substitute for broad liberalization of zoning policies.

Arena advocacy group launches petition, doesn't share financial backers Sydney Franklin Cincinnati Enquirer A group pushing to use the county sales tax to build a new arena in Cincinnati revealed several endorsements Tuesday – but has refused to say who is financially backing the effort. According to a press release obtained early by The Enquirer, Cincinnati City Councilmembers Meeka Owens and Seth Walsh, as well as former mayor John Cranley support the Hamilton County Growth Alliance's work to replace the 50-year-old Heritage Bank Center with a state-of-the-art arena. Former city councilmember Chris Bortz and community activist Ozie Davis, who is an employee of the alliance, also back the group's plans.

I'd recommend reaching out to either Jeffries, Walsh or Cramerding.

It looks like the Banks Master Plan RFQ is up. What better uses? It's highway-adjacent, so residential is not preferable. Office would be logical, but there is little to no demand that would not already be absorbed by other options. I'm not a fan of the city having so many big entertainment sports venues and would love to see mixed-use there. However, if they want an arena, let's limit the damage to places like the West End and maximize the opportunity for more challenging highway-adjacent sites like this one.

I don't see any questions with the Convention Center site. They are going to move forward with the city's approved plan. It comes down to staging, which is negotiable with ODOT if needed. Financing will take time, regardless of which option moves forward. This would not be unlike when the stadiums on the riverfront were built while Fort Washington Way was narrowed.

This is a CNU Legacy Project. One of four we are doing in anticipation of CNU 32 in Cincinnati in May. More information here. CNU 32 is the 32nd annual gathering of the Congress for the New Urbanism. There were over 1400 people who attended last year in Charlotte. We landed the host city designation in 2022 and are working hard to show of the city. It will be from May 15-18th at the Hilton Netherland Plaza Hotel. Early registration starts on Feb. 9th!

Looks like they used Bridge Forwards layout north of 7th but only the northbound street from the plan. They did not incorporate the southbound grid street or the 5th street connection.

I agree about the slowness. They are taking out permits for Macy's but its definitely not full steam ahead. I would love to have the Carew tower underway first (especially if they can get started some time before May 2024) for personal reasons. We are hosting CNU 32 at the Netherland Plaza and it would be helpful to show signs of momentum in the complex and not just an empty arcade/part of the building with nothing going on.

I've seen crews going in and out of the old Macy's and I can see lights on at night in the upper floors. Definitely looks like a lot of interior demo is happening now. I've seen a few crews on suspended scaffolding at Carew. Looks mainly like exterior repair work.
