  1. Who is white knighting? If you are referring to my comments you are mistaken. This situation is more nuanced and potential solutions are somewhere in between a full crackdown and “abandon all hope.”
  2. So your source is anecdotal? Who are the "they" you are referring to? Is this one group? Who is organizing this? Please understand I am trying to understand where you are coming from because it sounds like your argument makes a lot of assumptions.
  3. I'm telling you...OTR is resilent: https://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/i-team/otr-organization-plans-to-put-more-eyes-on-the-street-following-main-street-shooting

You can park on that side of the street after rush hour and on weekends per the posted signage.
  5. CPD has started closing down Main Street at 12th and 13th on weekend late nights. I'm not sure how long the closures are for but that has helped with crowding on the sidewalks. I also noticed that Woodward Street was closed late Saturday, which probably explains more crowding on Main Street. It seems like CPD has been working with the community groups on some of the issues you are raising but I don't know if they plan on going any further at the moment.
  6. It's the same number of lanes, just a narrower bridge. I shared this with a friend who is familiar with the project and he said this is Alternative I-W, which they decided to advance a few months ago. This means the approach configurations for both sides need to change. It's going to be up to whichever firm (or firms) win the RFP on design to come up with new ramp configurations. That's where something like Bridge Forward's plan could influence discourse.
  7. Saw it this morning. South building is pretty much down. They are taking the top floor off of the north building. They seem to be working on it during the day Mon-Fri. Not sure if they are working on it on Saturdays. At this pace its probably another 10 days to two weeks.
  8. I would agree that there are limits to the City's power in this. The City's HCB denied the demolition of these buildings in 2014 and that decision was appealed up the chain for years. Regulations and programs like VBML are intended to ensure that abandoned and deteriorating buildings do not impact the public right-of-way (streets and sidewalks). Preservation ordinances, zoning, etc all rely on the general health, safety and welfare as justifications for local police powers when it comes to enforcing these types of regulations. They have teeth but are also layered under process, rights to appeal, etc. Sometimes these processes take too long. The long and short of it is that Stough wanted a parking lot here and was never interested in selling or restoring these buildings. They could afford to devote resources to that effort to drag out any action while the buildings were allowed to deteriorate, exposed to the elements. In 2014, it would have been easy for these buildings to be saved. Heck, it may have still been possible today for at least the north building, but they wanted what they wanted and they wanted to win. I've seen 3CDC, Model, Urban Sites, etc rehab buildings in worse shape than Davis but it didn't matter. Someone once told me that anyone is willing to sell at the right price. That's not true. For some people, satisfying their ego is worth more than all the money in the world.
  9. Your answer could be in this real time twitter thread from that night:
  10. Is this for the county case or the federal case?

New 3D mesh maps just dropped for Cincinnati today! Looks like Fall 2021 too.
  12. The group that put that rendering out has run it by several traffic engineers and they said it's doable. The current highway is sunk 20 ft below street level at 5th street. There is a lot of new land area between a FWW West and downtown (about 28 acres) for temporary detours and ramp reconfigurations. However, the point of that drawing is to suggest something better than what is proposed can and should be done.

If you get on Google Earth's desktop app and click on the historic images button, they latests aerial is from September of 2021! Still no 3D mesh for 5 years is no excuse. It could be worse, 3D mesh for downtown Cleveland appears to be from 2014.
  14. I saw Margy Waller post a photo that it closed on her instagram story.
  15. These are called yield streets. We should build more of them https://nacto.org/publication/urban-street-design-guide/streets/yield-street/
  16. I don't think you need have an architecture degree or to be a member to attend the salon. I've attend a few of their events and they only ask to make sure certified architects get education credits.
  17. I agree with this and Aftab has said he wants to ensure that the system is working as best as possible. At the very least we may see the improvements @thomasbw has been sharing over the last few years.
  18. I'm actually really surprised and relieved at the amount of bars and restaurants that have stayed open through the pandemic. We anticipated more closings than what has happened so far. The whole industry is shifting and that will take some time to sort out. I'm not worried about the "slow down."
  19. These posh young hipsters from downtown are going to leave their $2,000 apartments to steal your car and explore the nearby abandoned shopping mall.
  20. IIRC there are plans but no funding. This was in the Mayor's ARPA funding proposal but I don't recall if it passed.
  21. "The goal of traffic modeling is not to be right; it is to create a plausible narrative as to why more construction is both needed and helpful. This sounds deeply cynical, and I hate writing it because there are good, decent, and honest people who do traffic modeling. There are also good, decent, and honest people who consult astrological signs to predict how a marriage will work out. Conviction in one’s predictions does not make them any more accurate." 22. Curb to curb widths vary widely on Vine between McMicken and McMillan. Anywhere between 35-40ft. Some parts of the sidewalk are more than 12ft wide. Its doable without building demo but there will have to be some serious street reconstruction at some parts. Also dedicated bus lanes average around 12ft but can be as narrow as 10ft.
  23. He's not wrong about being able to recess that part of 75. If you look at the area today, 5th, 6th, 9th and Court all viaduct over the highway as is. It looks like if you create a second Fort Washington Way and disperse the local traffic a la 2nd and 3rd into the rest of the city this can work. Judging by the way this looks, it appears someone has put more thought into it than for it to just be a fantasy project.
