  1. ^You'd be surprised actually since a lot of urban neighborhoods planted trees 15-20 years ago that are now mature and in the wires. Add the fact that many trees planted in the 80's and 90's were Bradford Pears which are prone to limb failure on windy days.
  2. So it looks like Duke removed the power but cable and telephone still have not been switched over and removed.
  3. Value engineering is probably the biggest challenge to quality infill in Cincinnati. Architects draws up amazing buildings but when the contractor is hired they cut out all the good stuff because its not within the bid price.

The family will continue to own the building and the land. Highbrook is taking over the lease which was in foreclosure. I think this is a good move that will give the building the refresh it needs.
  5. No they close the Kroger earlier because the store is not a money maker for the company. That being said the Kroger has been staying open later than it used to a few years ago.

Richter & Phillips is moving from across the street into the building.
  7. Any bets on where they may decide to locate? My guess is they are likely bound for a suburban office park location however Phase 1b of the Banks is also a possibility. Financial firm to bring 1,500 jobs to Greater Cincinnati Erin Caproni Digital Producer Cincinnati Business Courier Barclays Services LLC is planning to bring 1,500 jobs to Greater Cincinnati. The fast-growing issuer of Visa and MasterCard credit cards was approved for Ohio tax credits on Monday morning. According to information from the state, the company plans to open a call center in Southwest Ohio, which will involve $9.3 million in investment. A site for the new facility hasn’t been selected, according to the Ohio Tax Credit Authority, and a spokesperson for the company declined to comment on its plans.

Jake don't hate the players, hate the game.
  9. 3CDC cannot do it alone. We need more programs like OTR Adopt and what the OTR Foundation is doing with educating individuals in property rehab. Entire sections of historic OTR like Mohawk Place are in danger because they are just too far away from the areas of activity or the streetcar.
  10. They are closing Main between 5th and 6th for a week which is the last stretch besides the curve track at 2nd and Main. By the time that last curve is completed the first streetcar will be in testing mode on the OTR loop!
  11. I'm sure they will be done before the Fort Washington Way caps. Ha!
  12. I think its supposed to have a dinner movie theater?

Great Falls MT is also close (4 hour drive). Kalispell has an airport but I think only two airlines fly there. Of course you could also just take the Empire state Amtrak line between Seattle and Chicago. Trains run daily to East and West Glacier!
  14. Is the streetcar stop before this picture or will they have move these boxes for the stop construction?
  15. This may be overly optimistic but I think by the time the developer portion of Phase III begins in late 2016 we'll have every component of Phase 1 either completed (the AC hotel) or under construction (180 Walnut).

Interesting tidbit from the article below regarding driverless cars vs. bicycles: Google Will Now Tell You When Its Driverless Cars Crash
  17. Yeah I was thinking more tear down. All of that is like a five minute walk from the streetcar. So in a dream scenario we get 4-5 story mixed use with no parking. Oh and a progressive mayor/council.... One can dream! :-D
  18. Those buildings on Walnut that are low-income housing are LIHTC projects done by Eagle Realty in the 90's. They have to stay low-income for thirty years. That means they will likely convert to market rate some time in the 2020's.
  19. LaRosa's did in fact say they will not locate downtown. In fact their only urban store is in downtown Covington. I am not sure why we haven't seen a OTR skyline yet but we do have Graeter's so not every local chain feels the same way. I'm sure eventually the other local chains will come around and start looking to add locations in OTR.
  20. Maybe if Giordano's is successful in Cincy Lou Malnati's will follow!
  21. ^ Depends on the developer and the project. I know the 7th street project downtown fell apart when they did not get tax credits. But I've seen 3CDC projects go on hold as well after being snubbed.

I stopped reading at "cul-de-sac." The new boss is same as the old boss.
  23. Don't you mean where Rosa Park Street curves... I'm glad the Park Department still refers to this area as the Vine Street steps. Notice how I also referred to the Roelbing as just "the suspension bridge" as well? I'm half tempted to just refer to Mehring as Water Street and Freedom Way as Front street! I swear I'm not an old timer, I just play one on TV!
  24. I've heard the next garage will only be the block south of Freedom Way to where Vine Street curves to meet the roundabout before the suspension bridge. The Park Dept is working on building the extension that would expand the garage to Mehring Way and construct the park on top of that section.
  25. When the skywalks began to appear in downtown Cincinnati, downtown had 75% of the retail sales volume in the metro. By the time we began taking them down that number had plummeted to like 15% or something. Also when Cincinnati brought in HR&A after the riots to develop a urban core revitalization plan that eventually led to the formation of 3CDC the top critique was the skywalk system. I think the consultant said something about how the city looked dead to people driving by because everyone was in the skywalks. There were other issues with the skywalks such as unclear ownership and maintenance, issues with panhandlers loitering in and below the skywalks, etc.
