Hipsters
Hunting game...ironically: Hipsters Who Hunt I think the evolution of the new lefty urban hunter goes something like this: 2006: Reads Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma, about the ickyness of the industrial food complex. Starts shopping at a farmer’s market. 2008: Puts in own vegetable garden. Tries to go vegetarian but falls off the wagon. 2009: Decides to only eat “happy meat” that has been treated humanely. 2010: Gets a chicken coop and a flock of chickens. 2011: Dabbles in backyard butchery of chickens. Reads that Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg decided to only eat meat he killed himself for a year. 2012: Gets a hunting permit, thinking “how hard can it be? I already totally dominate Big Buck Hunter at the bar.” Hunting is undeniably in vogue among the bearded, bicycle-riding, locavore set. The new trend might even be partly behind a recent 9 percent increase from 2006 to 2011 in the number of hunters in the United States after years of decline. Many of these new hunters are taking up the activity for ethical and environmental reasons.

Jungle Jim's Eastgate cutting jobs Written by John Faherty A round of layoffs is taking place at the Eastgate Jungle Jim’s International Market although the exact number of jobs lost is uncertain. The store opened in September. Jungle Jim’s director of development, Phill Adams, acknowledged the layoffs but couldn’t say how many employees were being let go. The actions aren’t because the store is underperforming, he said: “We’re exceeding our numbers for sales projections.” The store is part market, part shopping experience, with international foods, a wine and beer shop, a cigar store and a coffee shop.

My favorite garage is the one on 4th between Race and Elm. It's there, its big, its ugly and proud of it. Like a pig wallowing in the filth of peeling paint and broken concrete it exclaims, "Hey I'm a garage. Park here, I got plenty of room!" It'll even scoop you up off 4th street if you want. Wow what service! Classy.

Carsharing in Cincinnati
^ Ha! The following post should have been re-titled: "Zipcars Now Live Here" Anyway... this article does have an interesting disclosure in the bottom paragraph about city vehicles: Zipcar Brings Car Sharing to Downtown Cincinnati Yesterday, Mayor Mark Mallory (D) announced that Zipcar was bringing its car sharing service to downtown Cincinnati and Over-the-Rhine. ”Partnering with Zipcar here in Cincinnati is an excellent opportunity to reduce congestion and parking demand, save people money, and provide access for people who would otherwise not be able to go about their day-to-day activities,” Mayor Mark Mallory said. Until recently, Zipcar had only been available in big cities with more comprehensive mass transportation options; however Zipcar began testing its service with UC students and faculty starting last year. The initial service has blossomed into the full service being announced today. Three “pods” of two cars each will be located in both neighborhoods as well as the two University of Cincinnati locations.

Garage design slammed for looking like a jail, now what's wrong with it? By Dan Monk Two years ago, it was criticized for looking like a jail. Now, the design for a city-owned parking garage at Seventh and Sycamore streets is being panned for looking too much like the buildings around it. “It’s almost like pandering to history,” said architect Paul Muller, a member of the city’s Urban Design Review Board.
