Columbus: Innerbelt News
Driving the split each day, I can easily say it needs rebuilt. Two cross-state freeways merge to form only 3 lanes. That's terribly substandard. It needs brought up to current standards. The traffic going through also isn't just local traffic. I-70 is a transcontinental interstate and needs to be upgraded across the board.

Read the columbus underground post. I'm sorry, but how is CMH going to land a flight to Asia, even when the 787 comes online? I assume that's the smaller long range plane Mr. Whitacre spoke of. What airline would dedicate such a long flight to CMH? Maybe I'm missing something. It would be great for the region, but not even Cincy (a hub/former hub?) has flights to Asia. Nor Cleveland that I know of.

^I think he was saying in comparison to CMH. Maybe not though. It sounds like his airline does pretty well here. CMH Downtown- I had no idea that US flew CMH-LAX nonstop. That's interesting. Does SFO being a hub for UA give them any chance at adding CMH-SFO or would there not be enough pax connecting there to anyplace they couldn't get to via DEN? My guess is DEN does enough for them and anyone wanting to go to SFO just connects there. I was actually hoping FL may do a little focus city action here, but they've since decided to expand MKE and add some metal to PIT and IND.

Forget Int'l service, I'd like to see service to the west coast, specifically SFO and LAX. I can't beleive a city this size can't support at least one daily to each city, probably SAN too. Is the O&D really that bad? Not sure who would fly it. I'd have to guess UA or AA. Probably not DL/NW and surely not WN and FL. I know airlines have cut back, but CMH has never really had west coast service except for a few short stints on DL (and SX). Any hope for service ever?

Great news! Glad to hear they are doing well at CMH! Does anyone have any ideas as to where they could expand in the future? What about BOS or LGA? I could see TPA soon. WN doesn't appear to care right now it seems so FL adding TPA probably wouldn't worry them any. In fact, maybe they'd just drop TPA.

I wish, but it appears CMH will get the shaft once again. How does such a depressed region like PIT get a nonstop to Paris? Delta isn't even very big there. Oh well, CMH can't even get west coast flights so how will they land a trans-atlantic flight? I for one keep hoping WN will take all of Concourse A and expand. I can dream, right?

Guess that 2nd terminal will be put off another 20 years! On another note, did anyone notice in the Sunday Travel section the Dispatch that Apple Vacations now offers packages to Cozumel via Continental Airlines? That would make this the 2nd Mexican destination. I don't understand how places like Cleveland and Pittsburgh have service via USA3000 to places like Montego Bay and Puerto Vallarta but CMH doesn't. Maybe CLE has more demand but surely PIT doesn't despit what PITers like to believe. PITers think they should have service to several European cities and multiple west coast. I have family in and around PIT. That area just can't support that kind of service, not without the hub. Anyway, that was way off topic....

The cuts just keep coming for CMH. Delta's latest cuts include SLC, MCO and LAX will probably not return next year. Concourse C is going to be a ghost town. They ought to just shutter it and move DL and YX ops to B. AA cuts rumored include RDU, BOS and STL. Nothing confirmed. And there's no one to fill in any of the gaping holes. Depressing. Oh well, I guess we better get used to connecting through fortress hubs from now on.

Yeah, it seems CMH is taking hits left and right. If we weren't underserved before, we sure are now. Losing RDU would suck as well as the reduced capacity to BOS, which would only be served by DL I believe. This is assuming AA were to drop it. The airline I think could do quite well here is Air Tran. We need competition to ATL. They could also add nonstops to FLL, MSY and RSW. Its probably hard for them to justify coming here when they have DAY right down the road. I guess there's not much anyone can do about it.

CMH Downtown, if you still use these boards, have you heard anything around CMH of any carrier adding/subtracting any service? I know you work there and thought you might hear things. I know WN is cutting one flight/day to LAS, MCO, and TPA. A couple months after hitting 30 flights a day, they drop back to 27. Too bad WN has little interest in this market. They could easily dominate it.
