The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
PLEASE DO! Like any "hip" city, there are great genuine people of Portland, New Orleans, etc, but then the people who move to a city with the express purpose of becoming cool by association. Portland seems to be overrun with those people, and I hope they stay away from the Land

I am guilty of pulling the thread off topic, and I apologize. If we are going to discuss Chick-fil-A in this thread, lets keep it centered on how it will impact the Galleria

Chick fill a is delicious, you don't get that fast food hangover after eating there

The article says its going to be open 2 hours a day for lunch, but 2 hours of a big draw is better than nothing

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
That picutre of the Moses Cleaveland statue reminds me of how the peace sculpture in Mall A is framed by the buildings behind it. Not sure if that was intentional, but if it was, it was clever.

One of the best decisions in marketing the city was brining in this outside firm, this script Cleveland and the #ThisisCLE have been phenominally successful. In pictures of Cavs parade, I saw people actually have tatoos in this script!

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
About the rink, what was the size of the rink the past 10 years? Is it much different? As for the site, the main point of these threads is to share valid, verifyable news about the subject of the thread. Discussions of that news is also welcome, and everyone is free to express opinions, share thoughts, and ask questions. Its generally understood that the questions asked on the site is a type of crowd-sourcing request for info, with the hope that someone reading would have the answer to the question. We have lots of experts on this forum who are very generous with their knowledge. If the question is intended as a complaint, every once in a while that is OK, everyone needs to blow off steam when frustrated. However if the complaints are repetative, repetative, reptative, it can get a bit annoying, and it really serves no purpose. Make your case, then move on. (Also, this is a great example of a post that should be a private message, but this thread in particular tends to go off the rails in terms of complaining)

I like the snails, but the mercats look really out of place Maybe the mercats were squirrels I think I would like them more??? I guess it's just that this artwork isn't very site specific. You could pack up all of these plastic animals and bring them to LA, Tokyo, Fargo, Elk Rapids MI, and not change a thing

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I can't speak for all posters, but I think they were talking about the "anonymous source" the article described. I don't think anyone was calling you out. If anyone else had posted it, I'm pretty sure the comments would have been the same. Anywho, I can't wait until Public Square opens up to the public

Marcellus / Utica Natural Gas & Fracking
Yup the Franklin Project has been given full funding!! It uses natural gas from fracking to make plastics. If down the road fracking becomes more expensive due to regulation (I hope) the facility can still run on other sources of natural gas

I hate Taco Bell, but I have to say I don't hate this Cantina idea. I hope they do well

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I dont think so, nor do I think there are any stops within the square. Busses will be able to traverse the square, but I dont think they will have any stops There are shelters around the perimeter.

Peak Oil
$60 a barrel is the new ceiling in the oil industry. That is the number that makes fracking profitable. For major reserves it takes an incredible amount of up front capital to exploit. With fracking (without regulation) the costs to start and then to stop are almost negligible. At $65 start up fraking again, flood the market, when it dips to $55 stop. I work in oil & gas in New Orleans, and deep water is pretty much toast for a generation. Some people may applaud that, but think about the fines BP had to spend on Macondo. The oil companies still need more discipline, but they are much more risk averse for safety and the environment just to ensure their investment is jeopardized. A fracking company can start up and disappear within a month, leaving all the environmental problems for someone else to clean up.

That is the first time, to me, that it looks like one unified square. Can't wait to see it in person!

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
For what its worth, a colleague of mine in from the Netherlands saw the above pictures of Public Square and remarked on how beautiful it looked, and asked me where were the pics taken. When I said Cleveland, she said "Ohh, I have heard good things about Cleveland" (I think my reaction was "vaklempt")

Cleveland: Nautica Development
It's better than a parking lot. There is still a boardwalk, restaurants, an Aquarium, music venues, and a water taxi connecting it to the East Bank, and its going up the hill to W25th The only thing they are adding is housing and office space in what was a huge parking lot (if the can save the Harbor Inn)

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Based solely on the article, $12MM was spent on infrastructure under the square that needed to, or would soon need to be replaced. They also mentioned $6MM for an endowment to maintain & program the park. I "think" that is the delta between the $32MM and $50MM numbers. We would have heard if the contractor required 50% more money to complete the job

LOL @ NuCleUs being completed early 2017. That will be the fastest a 54 story building has ever been built! :) The jenga blocks are being pre-fabed in Korea as we speak.
