  1. So, this is the fork in the road for Cleveland, are we going to invest in the Medical Mart, or into a casino?
  2. He is motivated because of the casino he wants to build with FCE next to the new CC. He has already paid FCE money for the option on the land Not seen on the drawing is one key component of Gilbert's vision -- a riverfront casino built on nearby property on which Gilbert has an option, provided voters approve a statewide plan espoused by the Cavs owner. If you did not see that blurb, I don't blame you. The PD burried in 2/3s of the way down. About his record with the cavs, did LeBron have anything to do with that?
  3. I think the PD is muzzling Litt. Someone said that Jeff Jacobs took out an ad in the paper? Is this true, or was it joke?

The artist formaly known as BP is MAD
  5. its in the wall street journal, maybe some artist rich parents will pass along the info to thier artist kids :) (I kid, I kid)
  6. ^yeah, I used to live in the south loop, actually about 200 yards from the Hyatt, if you think it, if you think it is desolate now, you should have seen it 5 years ago. Anywho, it looks like Tim Hagan has some health problems, I hope he is OK. Cuyahoga County commissioners OK convention center pact By JAY MILLER 12:52 pm, April 16, 2009 Cuyahoga County commissioners this morning unanimously approved an agreement with developer Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. of Chicago to build a convention center and medical merchandise mart in downtown Cleveland. However, the much-awaited agreement is only the beginning of a long process. PRINTED FROM: http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artikkel?Avis=CC&Dato=20090416&Kategori=FREE&Lopenr=904169963&Ref=AR&template=printart
  7. They would celebrate the agreement, just as they celebrated the tax increase. Remember when the commissioners let the public have a week to comment before they raised the tax. At the time they said it was SOP. Now, the Plain Dealer tried to say that the only reason the commissioners gave the contract a week for public comment was because they threatened a lawsuit.
  8. Gilbert acknowledged that he could gain financially if the convention center were built along the Cuyahoga River behind Tower City. Gilbert recently became an investor in the Ohio Jobs and Growth Plan, a partnership trying to get casinos approved in Ohio. Voter approval could mean construction of a casino behind Tower City Center, where Gilbert holds an option on the land. That is the financial motivation. As for building it near our assets, do we have a better asset than the Lake and Rock Hall?
  9. How dare elected officials defy Dan Gilbert and other prominant business men and newspapers! Don't they know who runs this town!!!
  10. He would financially benefit if the CC was at Tower City. MMPI will not go there. So, he is now working with FCE to kill the deal. He deserves scorn. I started this thread over 4 years ago, I have the right to my opinion.
  11. Substitute "connectivity" with "children" and start running around the city screaming like Mrs. Lovejoy from the Simpsons
  12. You are basing his response on the quotes the PD chose to print. The same PD editors who called Hagan a pimp for MMPI. (how dare an outsider want to invest in this town, they must be some sort of whore) Don't be suckered. (OMG, I am turning into Greener Pastures (no offense GP))
  13. Forest City can benefit by killing this deal. This all went south for them once MMPI came in. If they can drive MMPI out of Cleveland, and have one of the politicians in thier pocket run against Hagan, the CC will be at Tower City in an amazingly sweet deal for FCE. Looks like Gilbert will get a cut. Cleveland, however, gets screwed.
  14. Mayor Frank Jackson confirmed the commissioners had aimed to purchase the convention center and complete the site selection before this morning's meeting. But as of Wednesday night, that looked unlikely. So, FCE's best hope is Frank Jackson right now. Its time for Frank to decide who he works for, the City of Cleveland or Forest City. Gilbert urged leaders in Cleveland - from the commissioners to the mayor to City Council to business leaders - not to "repeat Detroit's mistake" by spreading out downtown developments instead of clustering them. He was most critical about the county's plan to build the convention center underground. "Usually death is underground and life is above ground," he said. "If you want to bring a city to life, build above ground, not below." You know, its like the reporter from the Forest City Hearld (PD) had to remind him of the talking points he was required to make. Connectivity, Parking, underground. I really dont know if I should laugh, cry or fly up to Cleveland and start kicking ass. :whip: By the way, did you read how many well structured comments supporting FCE were written at 5 in the morning?
  15. Did that coincide with the Kucinich/default era (honest question)
  16. Is that the site of the old gas station across from the Jake...ok, the prog
  17. No need to shout. Try the search function to get the answers to the questions you pose. :)
  18. It is still better reporting than anything that has been in the PD over the past two months
  19. ^most states require a separate liquor license for outdoor dining. Perhaps they did not want to wait for the 2nd license before opening. Just a thought. (you can drink at the other restaurant's patios right?)
  20. If lawmakers were to grant full abatement on that $8 million, it would cost Cleveland schools nearly $3.7 million annually, based on a breakdown from the Cuyahoga County auditor. Other would-be property-tax beneficiaries and their annual shares include: • Cuyahoga County itself - $2.1 million. • The city of Cleveland - $1.6 million. • Cleveland Public Library - $640,000. Trotter said he isn't clear on the process, but said other county officials soon will pursue the abatement. None of the government entities would lose much, if any, of the revenue they already get That's because most, or all, of the presumed site for the new complex is already government-owned, so it isn't subject to property tax.. So in reality its not costing the schools a dime, rather if it recieved no abatement the schools and other government entities would get extra money. How many times has the PD urged the use of tax abatements and TIF for development? But now, it's sinister.
  21. Sometimes I think I am paranoid thinking the local paper is trying to kill this project. But when you read that article, every fact about it is so twisted on order to picture it in the worst possible light. I really want this tabloid/FCE newsletter version of the PD to go away. If that means the paper ceases operation, so be it
  22. So the PD and Jackson is still able to kill this to appease FCE? Damn
  23. Anyone care to speculate on the Sunday hatchet job the PD will present this week. My guess, a Chris Kennedy expose.
