Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
My hope is that it's an operator with an restaurant nearby, where prep work and coolers can be leveraged. Maybe like a Jonathan Sawyer

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Its not like this project wasn't discussed publicly, and the first article I could find in this tread was from 6.5 years ago. Its probably best to focus on future opportunities based on what you consider lessons learned from Public Square. The pedestrian bridge is the next big project, maybe see if there are opportunities to volunteer with LAND studio, or the Group Plan commission. But, PLEASE no more talk about roof of the cafe. That poor horse is dead, lets quit beating it!

Cleveland: Nautica Development
WHAT!!! I'm thinking we may have hit critical mass! (I hope) Nautica plan calls for residential complexes Saying it is time to move the vision for the west bank of the Cuyahoga River from entertainment district to residential mixed-use district, Nautica developer Jeffrey Jacobs has unveiled a Nautica master plan calling for new towers upwards of 10 stories — with some as high as 20 — and 664 rental apartments. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20160509/NEWS/160509849/nautica-plan-calls-for-residential-complexes

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
I'm hoping a mini-mega project owned by either the Ratner family or a spin off company of FCE executives. Scranton Penninsula? Opportunity Corridor?

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
None of thier hotels have signage that says Kimpton. Just the hotel name like Palomar, Monaco, which are in several cities, and unique properties like Hotel Burnham in Chicago, and now Schofield in Cleveland

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
People here are some rules to remember: 1. Do not call out anyone on here. If you have a problem with a member, either talk to them directly VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE, or report the post to the moderator. 2. Some people are disappointed with the design of the Public Square cafe. Its a valid point, but I feel we have explored it to death! Let move on! Some of the dumb posts have been removed Consider this a warning - justice can be swifter or harsher from other Moderators or Admins!

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
And they'll be seeking a "catalytic" preservation credit. Which would be a pretty poor use of the credit, IMHO. And would make it that much harder for the MayCo bldg to get one. Also, to flee2thecleve's question, it will be scary/exciting to see how FC's HQ selection process unfold. From the article: A Forest City spokesman declined to comment on the potential sale and what it means for the company's presence in the building, and in Cleveland. Forest City is the largest tenant in Terminal Tower, with corporate headquarters offices that occupy roughly 250,000 square feet on the building's lower floors. K&D hopes to convert that space to 300 apartments, though the company will continue to lease those offices to Forest City until early 2018, Price said I agree, that catalytic credit should be used to bring something huge back to life...not what TT will be going for. $5MM, I wouldn't have a problem with

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
I have been waiting for a housing component of Tower City for....well a LONG time, I'll bust this guy out for that reason :drunk: That said, anyone know how high is the quality of K&Ds renovations so far? Is there an improvement from say 668 Euclid to East Ohio Gas building? One other question. Are there two elevator banks? Seems weird to have office and residential mingling through the same entrances.

Maybe that individual was encouraged to find other opportunities?

Cleveland: Population Trends
[putting on a Kevlar suit to survive the flames I am about to receive] I am cautiously optimistic that the Opportunity Corridor can some new housing interest, growing from University Circle. There is that one development (the one with the library) that is incorporating it into the design. My outside hope is that while this is too slow growth for Forest City to pursue, maybe one of their executive's spin off companies will plan one of those Columbus type planned neighborhoods

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
*Group we are almost off topic, lets swing the conversation back to Public Square renovation.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
One other factor to consider, the Standard building. Is it still being renovated into apartments?

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I like the idea of color, and a bit of whimsey, but I would have nightmares from the meerkat group about to attack from the roof of the convention center. Since these animals have no connection to northeast Ohio, it just kind of looks like the group plan commission went to Target and went crazy on cheap, plastic lawn ornaments. I mean, why not flamingos?

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Based on these pictures, I think people will get the same feeling about Public Square that they did when Jacob's field opened, "This is so nice....its hard to think its in Cleveland" I heard that so many times back then, and it wasn't people knocking CLE. It was just that it was so much more than they expected, and it was done so well.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
As a former Chicago resident, and a current New Orleans resident, let me say I love the CTA rail lines, and I despise the NOLA streetcars. The streetcars are primarily for tourists. It's literally faster to walk to work (3.5 miles) than take the streetcar. I wish it was a bus. I would kill for BRT! One man's opinion

Peak Oil
The weird counterbalance is that it is very easy to start a Shale operation. The Saudis can flood the market and shut down shale, for now. As soon as the price gets to about $55 a barrel, shale operations can start up again. I work in the oil industry in the gulf coast / Deepwater. That industry is done. I'm working on a $16 Billion dollar project called Appomattox. I expect that to be the last large offshore facility for at least a generation. To do a tieback to an existing host (the lowest cost way to tap reserves) will cost about $100,000,000. To start new fracking wells, about $10,000 What is scary about fracking is while I personally don't think there is enough regulation in Deepwater, Fracking has none. Big companies who have deep pockets may decide to do it "right". But with such a low cost barrier to entry, every cowboy good old boy who knows a little bit about drilling can pump hydraulic fluid into the ground and hope for oil & gas. If oil ever goes north of $100 a barrel, Deepwater might come back, but I predict the next 50 years the golf coast will be the new rust belt and Houston will be the next Detroit. (A more apt comparison is Cleveland, we used to be the oil Titan town, what was left mostly pulled out w/ city's bankruptcy)

That can't be right, it's horrible

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
I like the waterfront line, but it's flawed right now. If it were extended as a loop through campus it would make a lot more sense, and have higher ridership numbers. In its current form it really doesn't connect people efficiently (in my opinion) HOWEVER: Maybe RTA can go to flats / Lakefront developers and the Browns to ask for a subsidy to keep the WFL running. (At the end of the day I admit I am discussing this based on my impression. Is there current data on ridership, or cost per travel to compare with other rail/bus routes?)

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Anyone know what CLE landing fees are, and how they compare to other airports currently? The last time I read about it I remember that we had some of the highest in the nation, just wondering if we had brought ours down, or if other airports have increased theirs, making ours more competitive

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
^The Valspar acquisition will significantly change the number of employees Sherwin has. If they were planning a new building, they may have to go back to the drawing board to figure out which employees go where

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Are you talking about the entire Convention center, including renovating Public Hall & hotel and MM? Or just MM? The entire project was funded 0.25% sales tax over 20 years. RTA currently gets 4 times that amount, 1.0% and has gotten it for the past 30 years. Our local contribution isn't lacking, State & Federal is
