I've always been a fan of Tim Hagan. He really shepered through the mega projects of the city over the past 20 years, like Gateway and RRHOF. My gut was that he went a bit rouge on this one. Im sure Nance and maybe MMPI wanted to use the Flats idea to maybe leverage something from FCE, at least give them another 2 or 3 months to come up with a counter proposal. My guess, at the afternoon meeting, without PLJ, Hagan told MMPI commit to the mall, or the county shelves the project. All Hagan needed was DiMora to agree (maybe he was bribed with McNuggets). Regardless if my thoughts on the meeting is off, Hagan was determined to announce the Mall sitw that day

MTS are you speculating that it will be a highway, or is this on the record somewhere?

Do we know for sure what City Hall and the powers that be envision for the OCB? If the people on the board would be so kind, let me spout off what I think is the current situation, and what I hope will happen if it is built. If anyone has facts that run counter to my ideas, it would help shape my opinion. What I think is the current situation. -I-490 pretty much dead ends onto E. 55th, not close to any main arterial road -The path from the end of I-490 to University Circle, and the Heights beyond is cumbersome. -Between the end of I-490 and UC is a host of dead end streets and oddly aligned streets. Many of them were constructed that way to serve factories that are no longer there. -There is a lot of vacant industrial land, aka brownfields along the path. Here is what I think will happen if the OC is approved and begins construction (again, an opinion based on my reading of the subject) - An existing road will be chosen for a total reconstruction into a 5 lane Boulevard, much like Euclid Avenue was rebuilt (new sewers, pipes, electrial, gas...) -The road may be realigned, and pass through the brownfields. This would require brownfield to be rehabilitated. (thus fresh land for development) - Splinters of the new road would be constructed to connect to dead end streets and introduce more of a grid system to the area -Euclid Avenue at UC would reconfigured, and hopefully not be such a clusterf*ck. So, that is how I read it. If I am wrong, please correct me. Thanks

I really think they looked at the Flats a long time ago and determined that it was indeed too isolated, and there were probably not enough existing hotel rooms as compared to the Mall and TC site. Perhaps something can be worked out with the mall site connecting to the waterfront line, then over to the flats east bank.

Mall A has a nice fountain surrounding the Peace statue.

Quick show of hands, anyone want to see the Hanna fountains installed again, or leave Mall B as a grassy field? My vote, keep it grassy, it opens itself up for more special events, such as movies in the park. Im still SO HAPPY!

I may be in the minority, but I think Tim Hagan put the screws to everyone who wanted to drag it out

Maybe they read Urban Ohio to gauge public sentiment

Whats up with PLJones's other commitment? This is a meeting he should be at. Its $400million of taxpayer money

^Two words, Fred Nance. He is well aware of the law, and how to get around it. That is not necessarily a criticism, but its most likely true.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Screw the CC, screw the MM, give the tax money collected to the RTA, then end this crap.

Ive always thought, or just had a feeling that Hagan just does not like Forest City. Remember the strong arming FC put on the county to put the admin building at Higbees. Then when the county chose the Ameritrust site, FC Tthrew a fit and pulled out of the CC? My feeling is that Hagan may not be pro-mall site, but he could be anti TC site. HOPEFULLY we will know soon

I wonder how much of the money for the TC proposal is land aquisition costs. MMPI may meet with Wolstien just to leverage a better deal from FC.

Freeways have been around for 60 years or so. The Heights during that time, and even today is one of the most vibrant parts of town. Do you honestly feel that the heights is suffereing? Is a town like Euclid, where I grew up is thriving becasue if the 4 freeway exits it has? Please correct me if I misunderstood your post.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
If it is an Avenue, I'm in. If it is a freeway, I'm out. Is there any firm plans yet on where it would evenutally end? Im guessing it will start where I-490 ends

If Lakewood is part of the city core, does that make Mansfield a suburb?

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
If that was built, we may have never had the group plan. It is a cool building, though.
