  1. I wonder if the CC goes to the current site, will FCE pitch to Eaton (or did they already??)
  2. Maybe just a leveraging tool, but hopefully they see something with the mall site. KJP, is it possible to move cargo to the current center via rail, if modifications were made?
  3. I am going to play devil's advocate here, I hope my suspension from the board is not too long. Eaton is a "diversified manufacturer." Eaton is actually a group of companies that sort of operate independently, such as Cutler-Hammer. Maybe what Eaton wants to do is move all of its companies HQs to one campus. Let the operate the way they have, but be closer to the parent company. IF that is the case, it could possibly be thousands of new jobs for the region....just not the city. All speculation on my part, but with their talk of space needs, it may be what they are thinking.
  4. Separate thought Would Scranton Peninsula have enough room? Forest City to the rescue??
  5. Ctown, Chagrin Highlands is a development built on a vast campus that once housed a hospital. For some reason, the city of Cleveland owned it and the land. About 20 years ago, the Figgie corporation wanted to make a mega corporate park there, partnering with the Jacob's group. Since it was Cleveland's land in the city of Beachwood (and a few others) the tax sharing agreement was put into place. The original Figgie deal never happened, but the tax sharing agreement is still going. that is roughly it.
  6. who is on the board of directors for Eaton? Here is the list http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/OurCompany/AboutUs/CorporateInformation/Leadership/Directors/98065109
  7. ^Darn, you beat me to thanking cleveland.com for it's always insightful comments. I have a feeling this comment will be axed, so sorry mods.
  8. Eaton to Highland Hills http://blog.cleveland.com/realtimenews/2008/09/eaton_likely_to_move_to_chagri/print.html UPDATED: Cleveland's largest Fortune 500 company is likely to leave downtown for the city's eastern suburbs, rejecting up to $25 million in city tax incentives for building a corporate campus near the east bank of the Flats.
  9. ^I may be a jerk, but I bet the PD will actually take the negative spiteful path and now eliminate anything good about the city from the paper for the next few weeks.
  10. Welcome to Cleveland!
  11. You weren't ? :-P
  12. I still don't get how adding houses makes EcoVillage smaller. Anywho...
  13. ^what's up with that headline. Are the editors at the PD required to make good news sound bad?

I would drop off your car near the Addison brown line stop (Addison/Lincoln/Paulina) Take the Kennedy Expressway, which is 90/94 to the Damen exit, turn right at the street and follow it for about a mile. When you get to Addison turn right and you should see the brown line station. Find a parking spot in that neighborhood, lock er up, and enjoy the weekend. Roscoe Village is a safe neighborhood and it does not require special parking permits. Take the brown line to Fullerton, and you will be in the heart of the DePaul campus.
  15. For me, it used to be south campus...then they bulldozed it.
  16. The first few pics are in my hood, the south loop!
  17. Not sure what to make about this article. Was anyone at the meeting? http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/09/taxpayers_voice_skepticism_in.html Taxpayers voice skepticism in Cleveland Heights about medical mart plan Posted by jkuehner September 02, 2008 22:10PM Tracy Boulian/The Plain Dealer A selection committee picked the Tower City site for the new $536 million convention center and medical mart. Residents gathered in Cleveland Heights Tuesday to voice their concerns to Commissioner Peter Lawson Jones and project coordinator Fred Nance.
  18. Scav, the medical mart will not increase street life, just as the merchandise mart here in Chicago does not either. It will just be a series of showrooms for medical eauipment, shown to hospital administrators and the like, not the general public. I think the MM is a great thing, it just wont generate any street life.
  19. Hey, what is the timeline for the residential aspect? I did a little searching on this thread, and the website, but could not find it.
  20. and don't talk to us about creating above-ground covered walkways to get people from Tower City to other parts of downtown — how absurd hehehe
  21. Maybe they are waiting to gather all of her family or close friends before they remove life support. Just a horrible thing to happen to any family.
  22. So, Wal-Mart has been open for nearly a year, has there been any negeative effects on Cleveland retail?
  23. For as long as I can remember I have been a strong proponent of building a new convention center. I think I have finally changed my mind. Combine the location, the "gerbil tunnels" that would spare the average conventioneer from actually stepping foot in Cleveland, Forest City's constant bait and switch with this deal, and the fact that nearly $500,000,000.00 could do wonders for community development. Maybe I am just exhausted from the craptacular soap opera this has become, but now I think it will be more of a liability than a benefit.
  24. Thanks, fiberglass makes much more sense than plastic.
