  1. There is indoor bocce at Stone Mad in Detroit Shoreway My prediction for Wild Eagle, the entire staff will be 22 year old women in cheerleader outfits. The menu / concept table side taps is a lot like a bar here in Louisiana called WalkOns. It does really well, but it's no winking lizard http://www.walk-ons.com/home-callouts/join-the-walk-ons-team
  2. Or maybe the logo could have been something like an eagle or something...
  3. The project can roughly be divided into two phases, 1, parking structure with groud floor retail, and the second being the tower with hotel and everything else. Just my personal opinion, if they did the first phase and delayed the second, I would still be delighted with the project. We all know there is going to be competition for tenents in a new office building. There is a market for at least one new tower, but that does not mean that Stark's plan will be the winning one. (for now)
  4. Neiman-Marcus was planned on being across Huron rd from Ritz Carlton. (I opened the J. Crew store and I remember management hoping for the annoucement of construction starting soon..)
  5. It's Gilbert, he will probably put in something Klassy like..well...wild eagle saloon.
  6. I wish they had figured this all out before the "Classic Auto Group Welcome Center" was built
  7. Would there be any benefit to the airport, maybe runway wise, if concourse D was leveled?
  8. ^they should change the name to "Bro-mecca" that way they can also offend people of Islamic faith
  9. KJP - the first few are from the 80s, the rest are older. There is even one of Clifton Ave, when if had a streetcar from the 1930s
  10. Were any of companies along the route specifically asked about their thougths on the project? I wonder what Lincoln Electric's position would be. Besides hundreds of people working at the terminus of the line, they are breaking ground on a large training facility / welding school there. A Red Line extension would benefit both. If a large employer were behind a project, a lot of political people would be more vocal in support. Of course, the flip side is true as well
  11. I saw that article on twitter, circulating amongst New Orelans twitter people. They all liked the article and pretty much agreed with its premise, as do I. My experience is anecdotal, but it is shared with most of my peers in New Orleans at least along the Canal street line. It was resurrected about 15 years ago (the uptown streetcar never went out of existence). I live on one end of the route, and work on the other end, about 3 miles away. We would all rather have bus. The two main issues that make the street car SO SLOW (about 45 minutes in rush hour to traverse less than 3 miles) is the fact that the streetcar has to stop until all passengers have paid, while a bus can start up again while people are paying. Also if there is there is a car in the neutral ground (median) a streetcar can not maneuver around them. If there is an accident in the streetcar path, the entire system will grind to a halt. (the backup system is to run buses). My point is, if a community is going to spend money on a new transportation system, a streetcar without a dedicated path is a poor system to choose. Its pretty, but its not very functional. Perhaps some of the NOLA problems could be improved with better management, signal light coordination, better fare acceptance, but if would not fix the fundamental problems. Light rail, BRT, or even more frequent bus service with proper shelters are far better choices in my opinion. Edited to correct lots of dumb mistakes.
  12. This article captures a lot of my complaints about streetcars. It's often faster to walk here in New Orleans than take streetcar. I would kill for BRT, but I would just be happy with a bus http://www.npr.org/2016/02/23/467813006/revived-streetcars-may-be-on-track-for-disappointment?utm_campaign=storyshare&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social
  13. I love everything they have done with the renovation, so I'll just keep quiet about my opinion of that clamshell thing to myself
  14. Campus Partners is good at bulldozing, building ephemeral structures, not the hard work of civic planning or neighborhood building. Their idea of historic preservation is keeping a sign from one of the original buildings. If this "Kendall Square" idea is to take shape, Campus Partners should not be involved in the slightest.
  15. I second the motion to describe this building. Looks like something that belongs on High Street in Columbus
  16. ^Details of the food offerings were in the article
  17. The concept / menu is a bit of a headscratcher...but good luck to them
  18. Segregation is a problem in Cleveland, but there is no way we are more segregated than Chicago or Detroit. NO WAY! I doubt the validity of the studies cited in the above article Here is an article from the LA times http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-segregation-declines-20151202-story.html Of the major metropolitan areas, the new census data show, Milwaukee has the highest black-white segregation, with a value of 81, followed closely by New York and Chicago. Los Angeles has an index of 68, ranked eight.
  19. The convention center has been a project that has needed to get done for 30+ years. Since the convention center opened, look at all the hotels that have sprung up, like Schofield, Westin, Metropolitan and Drury. We would not have gotten the RNC without the convention center's modern communication infrastructure (it will be media base) Now, I hate the name. The name and the whole mission needs more focus, but the CC would not have been built without the MM.
  20. I have been working with the Historic New Orleans collection to try to place exactly where in the city the photo was taken. Unfortunately a hurricane stronger than Katrina passed through in 1915 and significantly impacted the city. If the church survived, it may have rebuilt the front.
  21. I have 3 siblings who live on the lake in Euclid, for the price of a small house in Lakewood. Mayfield to me is really surprising, but I guess the apartments over there are in good shape, and apparently in demand?
  22. Welcome CleveFan!
  23. ^this is an improvement for the neighborhood
  24. Euclid is kind of a pleasent surprise, along the lake
  25. This is me trying to be subtle about getting back on topic
