If you can't measure it, you can't manage it. The reasons the Dems don't want standardized test is because it would expose how poorly the poor children of this nation are being held back.

I am a progressive. But I am not a Democrat. I hate the status quo, and that is what the Democrats offer. For a while, the Republicans offered some change and I would hold my nose and vote for them. Now, I just really hate them all. If Dems could figure out a way to effectively educate poor children I would vote for them forever. But they constantly stick up for a union (which it gets kickbacks from) at the expense of children's lives. Every time a bad teacher is not removed from a classroom, the higher the chances that child will never get a chance to catch up. Then they will be doomed to a life of poverty........and the poor are a solid voting block for Dem's. I honestly do not think it is a coincidence that the power of unions, organized crime and the Democratic party diminished at the same time. I think I just joined the green party. :drunk: yeah, I am drunk
  4. Craford auto/aviation? a jet express to the Islands. you know I meant that as a joke, but I wonder if it would be feasible

Fields survived the Great Chicago Fire, the Great Flood, the Great Depression. It fell to a group of corporate honcho's in Cincinnati. I sent back my Macy's card. (I had not used my Fields card in a few years anyways)

Gee, nice of ODOT to pick a neutral venue to explain how they are going to scar the entire city and region for 50 years. But the Church will be safe...

Living in C-bus for the better part of a decade, I think Columbus needs to recognize the things it has done right and to quit looking for the big thing that will make it a "real" city. If Columbus could dissect what the Short North and German village did to turn themselves around they could recreate some of the things that make those area's so vital. So, foster more local business associations, guide and train them, give them the tools they need to make their contiguous businesses a neighborhood center, and let the neighborhood thrive. As opposed to uber-government agencies throwing tons of money and power around, bulldozing neighborhoods and building lifestyle centers
  8. It is a few blocks from Soldier Field, so my NFL allegiance is more or less settled. But, The Bucks will be prominently featured. No papers have been signed, so I guess this would still be an egg in a basket. I get a formal offer tomorrow. Cleveland is on the horizon. I want to do a music venue in UC, a nice Euclid Tavern type place. Give me a few years
  9. If the business is run well, it will keep itself fresh. For instance the Treehouse in Tremont is always changing things up, and thier business continues to grow. Same thing for Lola/Lolita. On a personal note, I am quitting my job in automotive and buying into a bar in Downtown Chicago.
  10. So, about E.4th.... Is there now a shift to get things done for Cavs/LeBron season or is it just a matter of getting things done ASAP?

    I don't want ghetto Macy's, I want Marshall Field's here in Chicago!!!
  12. Lets get the arcades hopping again with independent retail. I remember when stores like Passport to Peru was in the Arcade. (are they still in coventry?)
  13. I think the View will really take off once Rosie O'Donnell joins :)
  14. This means so much to Euclid. I'll never buy another Miller again!

So is there still time to rethink this whole mess?

I read somewhere that Stickland was going after Proctor in a campaign speech, or something. Maybe if the Dem's get into the governors mansion, he could shake up ODOT. It is a hope
  17. ^automotive industry
  18. I work for a Ford supplier in Chicago, actually Ford's biggest supplier in Chicago. I'll be out of a job by the end of the week. So if anyone is hiring manufacturing engineers in the Chicagoland area, let me know. :)
  19. That is a nice looking moldy honeycomb
  20. Any unsubstantiated, wildly speculative rumors about what will fill up the other storefronts?
  21. It's a little disingenuous to blame Cleveland's business woes on exactly three people (who all happen to be Democrats) isn't it??? Dan, you could count the Republicans elected to office in the city over the past 30 years on one finger, so I don't think there is too much of a conspiracy there. Kucinich did do his fair share of poisoning the well for businesses in Cleveland. Fannie Lewis is a bit different. All she cares about is the people in her ward, and good for her. I know, straying from the subject.......

looking at the warehouse district photos I realized that the area is exactly what lifestyle center operators are trying to mimic. So far, they have failed, IMHO
  23. One good example of how bad things got at the end of the White administration was the fact that his finance director had no experience or education in accounting. The city was about to face a huge budget deficit, but no one knew how much money the city had or didn't. That is just one example, then we have airport directors under White who had no business being in the job as well. If History is kind to Mike White, they would forget his third term, and for Cleveland we should be thankful he did not have a fourth
  24. When the financiers for the triangle project in UC backed out, I began wondering is City Hall less friendly to developers now vs. when Jane was in office? It just seems like the momentum for large and small project announcements has significantly slowed this year. I realize it is one thing to announce a project, another to put a shovel into the ground. So, is this just my perception? I have to admit, I was a big Jane fan, so that might color my opinion as well. Also, if there is some validity to my observation, was Jane too generous with tax money to developers, and Mayor Jackson more prudent? Just wanted to start the discussion
  25. Mike White started out fantastic, but he steadily alienated many of his supporters, and Cleveland supporters. By the end, the only friend he had was Sam Miller. The celebrated private-public partnership that started under Voinovich, and grew under the first term of White, was completely gone by the time White left.
