Cleveland: Why the modern mansions on Chester between E. 70th-90th?
Hey MayDay, your visual reference did not pop up, at least on my computer
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Yeah, but Mayday, aren't they going to also tear down the buildings on the other side of Old River Road? There are some good buildings on that side. I still think, as a whole, it is a good project

Columbus: Downtown Wallscapes
I would hate to loose the Cleveland interbelt reconstruction funds because Columbus wants pretty billboards. If we lose the money it should come out of Franklin and neighboring counties share of ODOT money.

Cleveland: Scranton Peninsula: Development and News
I remember at the time FCE said that the river walls needed to be reinforced, at a cost of something like half a billion dollars. They said something like a convention center and the new development might get the necessary federal money to do the project. Otherwise, if would be unfeasible. Not sure how true it is, but that is what I remember FCE saying

Cincinnati: West Chester - Ikea Coming to Union Centre
I know Jacobs wanted to put an IKEA in Chagrin Highlands a few years back, and the city of Cleveland tried to block it. Not sure if Jacobs was going to pitch it to IKEA once he had approval, or was IKEA the ones inquiring.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
you need better dreams.... :-)

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Well, the price tag is for the whole project including all of the infrastructure. I think about $25M is already pledged from the gov't. I think most of the residential units will be apartments, not condo's. Much like how Stonebridge did it. If there is one development company who knows retail, and who knows the East Bank of the Flats it is Wolstein's. I think this project is a slam dunk to be made, especially after the supreme court decision. The city, the port, the state and the developer are behind it and want to make it happen.

Biggest Fears/Concerns For Your City
My biggest concern for Cleveland is any sort of dramatic economic downturn (like $100 a barrell oil) that will scrap all of the plans for the city that are on the drawing board. Then for the next 50 years Clevelanders would talk about the fabulous plans of long ago..... Kinda like what happened in the depression. Not that I am a wet blanket, but oil hit $60 a barrell today....not good

Cleveland: Stonebridge Phase 5
K&D seems to be very pragmatic with thier goals. They are also doing a development in Euclid along the lake which now is double the size they originally proposed two years ago, because of demand.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
I agree with the point that wimwar is making, especially if this cooridor will open up large tracks of industrial wastelands to new development. All future prospects for manufacturing in this city, or any older industrial city is smaller niche manufacturing. If Euclid is being reclaimed as the main street of Cleveland, this new access road could be lined with smaller factories, with efficient truck accessibility. Thinking of it in that perspective, I now like the idea of the new road.

Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
3 Dog Pat replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWait, you chose to live above a bar and was SHOCKED to discover it was noisy? Since the tab for this project is well over $100 Million, when do you expect the university to "turn a profit"

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I always thought E.12th with the trees was one of the prettiest streets in Cleveland. It is nice that someone will be able to enjoy them now. I love that shot Paul, it really shows how Reserve Sq. and the Chesterfield will incorporate into this new area. Anyone know what the short beige building just north east of the erieview building, north of the parking lot slated for development?

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Disclaimer: I more or less like Jane Campbell. Anyone else think that since Chris Roynene(?sp) moved from planning director to cheif of staff, stuff that has been talked about actually starts happening. BTW, I aint sober right now

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
For the first month I lived in Houston, I was shocked to see the streets were COMPLETELY devoid of any retail, and just a small handful of restaurants, not a starbucks to be seen. Now add empty, dilapidated 20+ story buildings and you had one creepy downtown. I had heard about the tunnels, and just figured they got you from one building to another. What I did not realize was all of the retail, restaurants, banks, everything you find in a city was put underground, with the security of each building that it emptied out to keeping homeless people, and people 'who had no business being there' away from the bankers and oil men. Anywho, those tunnels destroyed the downtown city of Houston. So, I don't like them for here either. My rant is over

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
University Circle connected to Midtown, Midtown connected to Artists Row/CSU, Artists Row connected to the Avenue district, the Avenue District connected to Downtown, Downtown connected to Warehouse Dist, Warehouse District connected to East Bank, East Bank connected to West Bank/Stonebridge, West Bank connected to Ohio City.............. Hopefully the islands of our community are starting to link up Now if FC would only do something (like sell) the Scranton Penninsula

CLEVELAND - Pinnacle update!
Hypothetical question, and not a suggestion, can a lease be broken via eminent domain? The way Royanne was talking it sounded like it could be done.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^probably holding on the the property in case there is another gov't building to build...like a juvi court

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
Well, at the risk of being the most unpopular person on the forum, I will stick my neck out and say, I like this development. It reminds me of a shopping area in Chicago around North Ave and Racine that had big box retailers in it. It was on the grounds of an old factory, bordered by the river. The big boxes were shoehorned in on angles, and while there was a lot of parking, it was broken up by smaller stores, so it was not a sea of asphalt. I know, I know, Cleveland and Chicago are different. But, there is no tax breaks for it so the schools will get money on day 1, they are donating a stretch of the towpath trail, and modest as they are, there will be jobs there.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I definitely think, from a sales point to the community, "fixing up" the old center is easier to swallow than building a new one.
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
before I read Paul's comments I was going to write Holy Crap myself. I really did not imagine that this development would transform the entire area! Even if that DFAS isnt built, it would be nice to have an office building with direct RTA access. Is that surface lot behind the development the spot where district park will go?
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
It sounds like he is ready to deal if the price is right, but I agree with Ferrari, we cant use eminent domain.
-
Metro Cleveland: Road & Highway News
so C-bus cant have distracting large billboards, but Cleveland is OK with roadside T.V.'s?
-
Cleveland: Flats East Bank
I wonder how much of the projects price tag is things like the public boardwalk and reconfigured streets and sewers. The earlier articles say they are looking for $20M from the city for stuff like that
