  1. Mike White was able to get a lot of things done, as long as Sam Miller and FCE profited.
  2. One huge piece of the puzzle is still owned and neglected by FCE, that is the Scranton Penninsula. That would definitely connect Tremont to downtown and to duck island, which would spill over to Ohio City. Maybe one day.
  3. When I first heard about this development, I thought it was just another Wolstein big idea for the flats (remember putting a roof over old river road?) but it actually sounds like it might happen. Can you imagine a lazy day, sitting on a porch with a cup of coffee watching one of those huge barges slowly navigating the river. I would love to live there.
  4. New port official looks to revitalize region Thursday, March 10, 2005 Sarah Hollander Plain Dealer Reporter Mayor Jane Campbell's former chief of staff begins a new job next week with a mission of expanding the Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority's economic development role. Deb Janik starts Monday as the port's vice president of regional development. She will work directly with the city, the county, suburbs, local banks, developers, the Cuyahoga County Mayors and City Managers Association and neighborhood and civic groups, such as Team NEO and the Greater Cleveland Partnership. 5. Mister Good Day brings up a good point about the street level interaction that Stonebridge lacks. I hope this is taken into consideration if they do something big on the East Bank
  6. Well, it has been noted in Litt's columns that the director Katherine Reid (?sp) may not have been the best person with balancing people vs. money. That said, she did raise the money for the expansion, and she is stepping down now. Hey Pope, this is a good day, dont piss in the Cheerios. :-)
  7. I guess there is midtown, ripe for development
  8. ^with its $700Million endowment, and the fact that half of the interest per year is required to spend on art, the museum will just keep getting better, and still be free to all!
  9. With the huge construction boom going on, is there an area of UC that can be developed as a Forest City type mega development? Just wondering, with all the new people probably moving to Cleveland ( ) for the new Case/Clinic labs, it could be a good opportunity.
  10. ^thanks! University circle is officially kicking ass. I love hearing statements like the museum being "an emblem of the city and its greatness." Over the past 20 years, Cleveland has been good at taking 5 steps forward and three steps back. I think we are moving forward again. BTW this project is something like $50Million more than the Gateway project
  11. Any word on how the CMA board voted on the expansion??? :?
  12. Well, I would not call it a Cleveland food, but every time I come back to Cleveland I stock up on Ohio City Pasta
  13. 'bout sums it up. I love Columbus, but it is probably the only city that can take an urban neighborhood and turn it into a lifestyle center. About BW-3, and all of South Campus after Papa Joes burned down, noone wanted to invest in South Campus after Campus Partners took over. They would continually say they were going to acquire all of the property buy buying businesses or use of emminent domain. That 50% figure he is using must also include businesses that CP bought and would not rent them out anymore. Best way to insure an area is blighted before you go to the courts is to make it blighted. Also, after reading the quotes from E. Gordon Gee, what exactly has Campus Partners done for student housing on South Campus, besides make it so unwelcoming that students have moved to other parts of C-bus?

For what its worth... I saw an interview with Donald Trump this morning and he said the one real positive with the weak dollar was the amound of foreign investment into real estate in the country. So maybe there is a feeling in Europe right now that everyone has to invest in US real estate ventures now before the dollar strengthens again.
  15. Well, in Cleveland's case, for those in the know, are we seeing slow and steady growth, or a bit of exponential growth. For instance, in 1990 what maybe 1000 residents, in 2000 maybe 2000 and in 2005, 6000. being an enginerd, I plotted those numbers and made a linear trendline and an exponential. The linear trend line had 8,000 residents in 2015, the exponential had 15,000 residents in 2015. (I used excel) yes, I am a geek. If anyone has more accurate numbers I could refigure. :-D
  16. From the 3/6 PD... Company not giving up on city Sunday, March 06, 2005 Scott Wolstein, chief executive of Developers Diversified Realty Corp., said he remains committed to Cleveland and Ohio, even while his company has gone national. More than 8 percent of the square feet it manages is in Ohio, trailing only New York. When asked why he doesn't invest more locally, he responded as if he's accustomed to hearing the question. He and his father Bert Wolstein spent millions in the 1980s and '90s developing the east bank of the Flats, only to see the project fail. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com

  18. Yeah, but would the evil empire of Forest City Enterprises go along
  19. ^I thought Hagan killed the dual Hub subway because of the $1billion price tag. Wasn't there talk of dollars spent vs. time improvement being a requirement of federal money? I thought that is why BRT was chosen, because with all of the problems of the #6, it is still not all that bad. KJP, I am not looking to stump the expert, just trying to clarify what I had thought was going on.
  20. ^There was a vote in Columbus for a COTA light rail a few years ago
  21. ^More power to him
  22. ^Has RTA gone to voters with a light rail proposal recently?
  23. I know I asked this before, but we have some new people signing on, so I wanted to ask this again. How many people need to be living in downtown for it to be a functioning neighborhood? And when do you expect that to happen in Cleveland? Just wondering
  24. Was there really a pond there, or did the artist spruce up the place to make a prettier picture?
