  1. 2014 was the year that Cleveland turned the corner in terms of reputation
  2. I removed some off topic posts. Carry on.
  3. Still has lots and lots of room for improvement.
  4. I would feel better if they just named it the "Connor Theater" rather than "Connor Palace" That way the PHS theaters would be the State, Ohio, Hanna, Allen, and Connor theaters.
  5. How many people work at Nela Park? Are there any other large employers in East Cleveland? I think the only incentive for the suburbs is to annex part of the city is to get the payroll tax a large employer could provide. I really feel if the East Cleveland area stabilizes, a lot of transplants will see the beauty in the housing stock there. In 20 years the East Cleveland "neighborhood" may be the hottest property in town.
  6. Publicly calling them out may actually help a little bit
  7. ^convention center, but I get your point
  8. I remember reading that there is a Super fiber optic line between Chicago and New York that passes through Cleveland. I think one community has been working to tap into it for years, but for academic institutions like Case. One community's commercial arm is taking that know-how and offering it to the market. I don't think just anyone with $1 million would be able to make this happen. (But I guess that's just my opinion)
  9. I think he had a few pints, but I'm not complaining because we got the scoop that way
  10. Some of the most popular restaurants in the French Quarter are "heat and serve" All of the dishes are premade in an industrial kitchen on the west bank. So, you can still offer a good menu...but its not going to be the caliber of restaurants we are spoiled with in Cleveland.
  11. I was just thinking I liked the canopy because it of how minimal it is, trying not to take away from the building.
  12. positively Cleveland is changing its name to Destination Cleveland - I think tgis just shows the new signs
  13. The city did make the county buy the facility, so that name is technically more accurate
  14. 3 Dog Pat replied to a post in a topic in City Photos - USA/World
    Awesome pics! Thanks.
  15. Regarding that "third tallest" isn't the difference between the terminal tower and BP building something like 50ft? To be a new building and #3 you would almost have to purposefully want to be third
  16. Yes, but the Marriott does not face Public Square, like the lobby of Key Tower. I'm not sure if the lobby could be reconfigured for public use.
  17. Is anyone familiar enough with Key Tower's lobby to see if some sort of grand restaurant could go into the ground floor? Between Public Square and the Mall, it is the perfect location
  18. Add E.4th/House of Blues to that list
  19. Fortunately he will have ground-level uses other than parking. Some of the retail offerings could be pretty significant -- up to 75,000 square feet in leasable area. But that's also divisible as is shown below. Also, I'm interested to see that he proposes to turn East 4th south of Prospect into a pedestrian corridor (except for a driveway off Huron), in addition to the laneway he promised. One graphic I'll repost from the previous page is the ground-level concept... Anyone want to guess what a "NYC style monumental arch and gate" means? Is it kind of like "world class signage"?
  20. Very good points... I'm personally satisfied with the casino as it is. Yeah, I know some hardcore gamblers think gripe that it's "cramped," but I love the energy and excitement currently in the Higbee's space and really wonder if it will become watered down if the casino is extended south of Huron. I agree, I'd like to see some mixed-use residential, retail in the Huron space more than expanded casino space -- remember, the constitutional provision calls for only 1 full-service casino per each of the 4 big cities, and Gilbert was able to finesse the constitutional language so that, therefore, he would technically be allowed to extend the Higbee's space as opposed to creating a new casino along Huron ... Is there really that many people descending on downtown Cleveland who want to gamble that would warrant such a mega gambling facility? Also, I have no idea what lafont is talking about re Gilbert's fulfilling his mandated promise: Cleveland's Horseshoe casino consistently posts better revenue numbers than any of the 3 other full-service houses. If they were going to spend a lot of money on the property, I would rather a world class Monte Carlo type Phase I, rather than a sprawling gloppy Phase I and Phase II.
  21. Probably a elevator shaft or fireproof stairway
  22. *whimper* I miss Southport, even if it's not the same as when I bartended at Schuba's in '99. I need to finalize my planned comeback to Chicago
