Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
New Orleans has had a terrible weekend of violence as we'll. 22 people shot so far since Friday.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I really hate the name worldwide point of Heath things concentrate or whatever worthless string of words a committee strung together. Medical Mart is still much better, and is still used to describe the global focal point of medical new practices, or whatever it's called. This needs to be fixed ASAP

Cuyahoga County Sin Tax
I was trying to look up stats on how the vote went down on the original 1990 sin tax, because I remember it failing in CLE as well, and I stumled upon this "Video Vault" from WEWS. I had forgotten how tense the vote had gotten, and I had forgotten some of the side issues around it, like would the Cavs leave an arena they owned in Richfield, for the Gateway arena *Mike White's glasses are spectacular http://www.newsnet5.com/news/news-archives/video-vault-wews-coverage-of-the-sin-tax-campaign-and-vote-in-1990

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
The conversions have been so profitable, says Mr. Price, that K&D is now selling properties in the suburbs to focus on downtown and is in talks to buy at least two additional office buildings that it plans to convert. It'll be interesting to see what office buildings might become housing. Cue a broken record for my next comment: If the city had found a way to prevent the Columbia Building from being torn down it would definitely be in process of residential conversion right now. Probably the same for the Stanley block. I hope the city doesn't do anything that STUPID again for at least a generation.

If they do a nice job with the rest of Higbees, I would be fine without a Phase II.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
So, playhouse square needs to figure out a way to make this an annual festival. Obviously not to this scale, but an event that brings people into the streets, with drink, food, and PHS arts!

Cuyahoga County Sin Tax
Again, don't tell me that Cleveland doesn't have other needs which could be addressed by $300 million over 20 years. If the sin tax fails, the city and county will have to pay for it lease obligations somehow, and that means less money for gov't services.

It's a luxury tax to maintain our premier event spaces. Period.

Cuyahoga County Sin Tax
Why would they negotiate? Also, can you promise this "alternative funding source" will be a better bargain for Cleveland citizens than extending the sin tax? If the sin tax is voted down, that source of revenue is gone.
-
Cuyahoga County Sin Tax
Why would the teams renegotiate? It's the city's obligation to pay for these "asset enhancements". The sin tax is the way the city wants to pay for it. If the tax is voted down, they will have to find another way to pay for it. Based on that unknown source of funding, and the city's obligation to pay, this "sin tax" which is basically a luxury tax is the best way to go.

Cuyahoga County Sin Tax
The city already has a ticket tax on venues over 100 people (I think its 100) It originally was for all tickets sold in the city regardless of size, but they never enforced it on small music clubs. When they did, it jammed up places like the Beachland ballroom.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
I think it does look a lot better, and I am very exited they renovated that property, especially after hearing how bad it got before the renovation. That said, the garage there is a huge swing and a miss

Cuyahoga County Sin Tax
The money to maintain these facilities will come from taxpayers, either through fees, tax increment financing, or some other method. Given the choices, I think extending the current sin tax is a good way to do it.
