Cleveland: Marketing the City
I would love to see the data that says people have an overtly negative opinion of Cleveland. It might just be my anecdotal experience, but I have always travelled a lot from work and meet dozens of tourist each week on New Orleans, and people used to look at me when I said I was from Cleveland kinda the same way you would look at a person who said "my car just got towed". A mix of sympothy, surprise, and head tilt "oh, it's going to be OK" But honestly, in the last three or so years, that is less and less. The worst reaction I have had from someone under 30 in the past few years has been just ignorance, having no opinion about Cleveland. I'm not sure if it is things like "Hot in Cleveland", The Cleveland Clinic, Michael Symon on the Chew, Case, or maybe the fact that (I'm not happy to say) Detroit taking on the role of the distressed city to make fun of. Regardless, in my experience, people just don't talk bad about Cleveland anymore.

Cleveland: Marketing the City
Has anyone on this forum decided to visit, or move to a city based on the city's marketing campaign?

Cleveland: Marketing the City
I finally watched the video, and I really like it. I would like it better if they kept the "were not trendy" message and dropped the "don't believe what you hear" message, but hey, I ain't paying for it.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
I mentioned this in the Marketing thread, but it really impressed me. I was overhearing lots of Cleveland love, and desire to get there before it gets "ruined like Portland or Austin" My regular bar in New Orleans French Quarter is Fahy's. Very dog friendly and an industry hang out. One of the bartenders, Robert, is a huge foodie, and he was talking to a bunch of servers and cooks on the other side of the bar. They got talking about how they all watch the Chew, and Michael Symon. Then one of the people bursts out "the Cleveland food scene is just blowing up right now" and another, "yeah, one of their restaurants got a James Beard award {Sokolowski's}" They all agreed that they needed to take a trip before the hipsters take over! I did not know the servers, so they could have been a group of former Clevelanders living in NOLA, but either way. A relatively full bar overheard them and no one offered up any snark about the city. Needless to say, I was smiling ear to ear!

How old is that data?

Cleveland: Marketing the City
It just seems to me that this idea that Cleveland needs to overcome a negative stereotype is dated. Just last night, I was walking into my local in the French Quarter and there were a bunch of people talking to the bartender. They were all talking about getting to Cleveland soon because the food scene "is just blowing up". None of these people are native Clevelanders, but Michael Symon and people taking notice of Sokolowski's James Beard Award are huge contributors to this idea. And now our campaign is "Don't believe what you hear about Cleveland"?!?

Cleveland: Marketing the City
"If you don't like what people are saying, change the conversation" WTF? This isn't 1988. There are no Cleveland jokes. Any article written about the city over the past 5 years, out side of the PD, is enthusiastically positive (at UO I'm pretty sure we read all of them). What are they talking about!?! That quote should be Detroit's new marketing push

Mayday, for a brief second I thought your pic above was of the Field Museum in Chicago. I guess based on the angle off the courthouse. Well, carry on

^Thats a good point. I had not realized that Mark Naymik. He seems to be the PD troll for anyone who likes Cleveland. It would not surprise me if he hyped up the worst parts of the website. I'll reserve judgement until the final launch

Cleveland: Marketing the City
Based on this, I wonder if Positively Cleveland is lobbying local chefs to install drive thrus for their burger eating customers who are concerned about parking. This is Cleveland. I'm with AJ93, the more I think about it the angrier it makes me. We are going to spend money to reinforce a negative perception of the city?

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
There may not be too much damage. An arcing power box that causes a fire can not be extinguished with water, so that is why it may require so much manpower. Also, (Im guessing) walls are not up, it should be easy to trace the cables coming from that boxx

Maybe they bid for it with the speculation that they would get the tax credits. Remember, it was sold at auction
