  1. I think it is ridiculous as well, but Playhouse Sq. has done so much for the city, if they want a chandalier, fine.
  2. ^Gilbert is to blame for the Columbia, the Stanley Block, and that walkway. Based on that track record, I'm not really upset if he doesn't do any more developments downtown
  3. Well, I thought the big announcement would be something like "Wicked is coming back to town!" so, eh.
  4. Just think of the activity in that corner with the casino and a residential conversion of the Columbia, and the Stanley Block buildings.
  5. I can't wait to see the jersey in the Brokaw advertising window.
  6. ^thumbs down
  7. HOpefully the convention center attendees will help sustain some of the newer places.

Anyone know what the status of replacing bulkheads fall on the Corps of Engineers priorities? Are we scheduled for major reconstruction of them any time soon?
  9. http://imageshack.us/a/img546/6772/jvl2.jpg Something like this going up in Chicago?
  10. Lets bring it back on topic, please.
  11. .....grumble grumble, on deaf ears :-(
  12. exit and entrance ramps take up a lot of real estate, and they cost a whole lot of money.
  13. Matt Yglesias, economics reporter for Slate is in the Cleve all week, and randomly tweets about the Cleve, all positive. (Well, for him, he is pretty snarky) For example: @mattyglesias: Cleveland is kind of beautiful: http://t.co/hW8DFeK9XC
  14. Thanks, KJP. That is what I have been clumsily trying to explain. If people want more money to go toward public transit, ODOT needs to change the way projects are scored. There are methods established in ODOT by laws on how it can be done. it sounds long and tedious, but it is the only way funding in the state will change.
  15. I was at the edge of my seat waiting for mjarboe's tweet updates. Sounded like a thoughtful discussion
  16. It was approved on first submittal, a long time ago. I think my opinion on this is well documented.
  17. I'm running the RocknRoll half marathon and the highlight for me will be going to the convention center to pick up my packet. I think I may tear up
  18. These are the kind of spin off developments I was hoping for when we built the big peices of the puzzle, the Rock Hall, Gateway, and now the Convention Center, along with the smaller pieces, the Casino, the Healthline, Playhouse Sq., E. 4th.etc. It is amazing how much Cleveland has built itself up, and I think we are at the tipping point. The future of downtown is very bright.
  19. KJP brought in the Forest City angle. A few months back Forest City out of the blue started a housing stabalization program in the adjacent neighborhood. It was a nice thing to do, but it was out of the blue and not something FCE typically does. However, I agree it is a big if. What isn't a big if, is that our land locked city has square miles of undeveloped land next to one of the most productive areas in the state. The best plan right to put this area back to productive, tax generating use is the OC. Remember, the first transportation investment the city made to get people to Univeristy Circle was the Healthline. Next, was upgrading RTA Red line stops in UC. Now there is a road project. If you want to protest the disasterous effects of building new transportation infrastructure that will hurt the city, and ultimately the region, protest the expansion of I-271 in the suburbs.
  20. If it's true that Forest City is a proponant of the Opportunity Corridor, the fact that they are spending a lot of money to stabalize housing in Slavic Village makes a little more sense. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/03/forest_city_safeguard_properti.html The area of the forgotten triangle is roughly half industrial and half residential roughly bisected by the path of the new road. Forest City may see opportunity here to develop the residential areas. I look forward to hearing responses to this post on how building new housing in the city is a horrible idea. Or how it would be horrible if Forest City made money in Cleveland.
  21. We wanted so bad to bring a winner to Cleveland. Warms my heart that was frozen in carbonite at the time of The Decision
  22. So if that money goes to a new interchange west of Avon, where they will build new housing development, new Sprawl-Marts and Targets, and more industrial parks, taking more people and jobs from Cleveland, you will call that a win for the city?
  23. It should be noted that if funding is blocked for the opportunity corridor, it can't be redirected to public transportation, it goes to the project that scored slightly lower. If people are serious about changing transportation funding priorities it should lobby Columbus to change the formula on how projects are scored. it's not likely at this point, but if the Opportunity Corridor is not funded, that money will be used to expand sprawl elsewhere in the state, with zero, or negative economic impact to the city of Cleveland. NOT KJP, but for others it's simply dishonest to try to rally people to block the OC and sell the idea that the money will still be spent in Cleveland for public transportation.
  24. ^Wasn't Wal-mart supposed to kill off Dave's supermarkets in town as well? I can't see how an Aldi's, a mattress store and a Burlington coat factory at Steelyard commons discourage retailers from opening downtown. They are different markets.
  25. Hey 8Shades, I grew up in Euclid and went to St. Joes. Are you seeing any interest in people whose grandparents lived in the neighborhood, maybe with memories of trips to Fanny's, inquiring about moving there?
