  1. ^^Awesome to hear
  2. If I remember correctly, the Chinese garden is closer to the end of Rockefeller Park, near Univeristy Circle....and it maybe the most impressive garden
  3. Isn't that pretty close to what happened with the Stanley? One owner wanted to develop, had partners, one wanted the building leveled.
  4. When my Dad came to the CLE in the early 50s, he had spent a year in NYC and a year in Paris. He always said, nothing there compared to the beauty of the cultural gardens when he got here. It looks like better days are ahead for the area. Thanks for the post MayDay!
  5. ^How much of that will be the new garage? EDIT: I guess parking is $24MM http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2013/05/cleveland_to_raze_long-term_ga.html
  6. KJP, I am not sure I know how to phrase this question. Are they looking only at an extension of current service, for rail making Windermere just another stop, or are they also looking at building another system that could end at Windermere? For instance, is it conceivable that passengers would transfer at Windermere from the vehicles that got them there? I was just wondering if this was part of the decision making matrix.
  7. ^Some places are just seasonal attractions. Cedar Point for example, or the Flats back in the day.
  8. ^Thanks, we will be looking forward to EOG building updates!
  9. CLE OH, do you have enough data to make a ROM (Rough Order or Magnitude) or a WAG (Wild *ss Guess) as to the population today?
  10. It sounds like the retail mix that was in The Arcade, way back in the day. And that is a great thing
  11. WOW! Thanks for the pic, wouldn't believe it unless I saw it
  12. They are cleaning it up just in time for the view to be blocked by the casino walkway :-/
  13. Let's keep the conversation on the pros and cons of building this road, and the features it should have.
  14. What was the speed limit there? As I understand it, the OC road will be 35mph
  15. ^I really only care about Cleveland, and the lower East Side of Cuyahoga county, including Euclid. My reasons for support are well documented upthread.
  16. Right now, it will be primarily funded by turnpike revenues, with a small percentage, but still a good chunk of local and regional money. There will be no sound walls, no exit ramps. I will have sidewalks, a bike path, cross walks, a grassy median, and traffic lights. If it does not act a a Main Street / Boulevard, I'll be against it and so will a whole lot of stakeholders.
  17. Metrocity, any updates to this list? Anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks
  18. ^I applaud your efforts, and thanks for taking time to address the group.
  19. It has to be in worse shape, because the city has prohibited the next door lot from operating. They never did that with the Stanley. From Michelle's article, I don't think it's landmarked.
  20. With the Stanley Block, you had a historic, landmarked building that (one of) the owners wanted torn down for parking. The city Landmarks commission came in and said it couldn't be torn down. Then the owner let the building deteriorate, and claimed it was a danger to its parking business next door. The city agreed and said that it had deteriorated to the point it was a threat to public safety, and ordered the building torn down, not to perform emergency repairs to the landmark building. The Herold building's owners want to tear down a historic building for parking. The city did not want them to tear it down, so the owners let the building deteriorate, to the point now that the city has classified it as a public safety hazard by not letting people use the parking next door. This time the city is suing for renovations, not for an emergency tear down. So, when these owners go to court and say they are in the exact same situation, in nearly the exact same location as the Stanley Block, the city will not have a leg to stand on.
  21. I think the precident the city set with the Stanley Block will make it easy for the owner to demo the building, once it goes to court.
  22. I pitched in $20
  23. It's primarily about E. 4th, so this is a good spot for it
  24. I have worked in manufacturing, and have become successful in it. I have opened manufacturing plants all over the south, staffed with many people with never had a job before. I have taught them how to weld, and to operate industrial machinery. These jobs took people out of poverty and into middle class life. The same thing can be done in Cleveland I currently volunteer with the state and Nortech to bring jobs to Cleveland. I know how these things work. Have you ever stepped foot into a manufacturing facility?
  25. ^ I agree with that, I just wish they did not tear down the landmarked buildings and now, that skywalk..... $5 wager with any urban ohioan, the way they plan to connect Phase I and Phase II, will be via a skywalk from Phase II connecting to the Phase I skywalk
