  1. If the buildings were being sacrificed for the casino, that would be one thing. But, they are being knocked down for parking, something the city has no shortage of. There is no NEED for these buildings to come down
  2. Connectivity = old white people not having to step foot in Cleveland

I always recommend the Detroit Shoreway (Gordon Square) neighborhood. A good mix of old and new.
  4. Do you really feel a handsome building a block away from E. 4th and a block away from the casino, with the recent success of 668, would not be considered a prime candidate for conversion? Probably the only reason it is not being used right now is that developers (i.e. Gilbert) purchased the property on speculation that the casino would be approved, and he could tear it down to build the garage. Using the argument, "well, its not being used for anything" For that matter, when did he buy the building?
  5. And just to add insult to injury, that structure is fugly
  6. Thanks for the info
  7. ^^The Columbia building is listed at 89,000 sq ft. The Grand Arcade was 81,000 sq ft at the time of renovation
  8. Welcome!

    AJ93, you have inspired me
  10. ^those garages are ususally attached to large buildings, not stand alone valet lobbies
  11. Which will be across the street from another parking garage, and on the other block, another parking garage. TMH, do you think we could market that part of the city as the Parking Garage District?
  12. Tower City looks so impressive when walking toward it from E. 4th along Prospect. Now that view will be blocked by a Gerbil tube?
  13. What is more likely is that the next phase is never built. Higbees will always be a casino
  14. Because a main source of revenue for the casino is parking, so they more parking they own, the more money they make. Remember how they wanted to alter the river for more parking spaces?
  15. My guess is that if MMPI were trying to knock down these buildings to build a "welcome center" the PD would be howling at the idea The PD seems to give Gilbert the same scrutiny it gives Forest City

Ask bartenders/servers in Detroit Shoreway neighborhood. They typically know all of the good deals in an area.
  17. Somewhere in the website it says they are planning festivals and such on that land, so it may bring people down
  18. Construction Update - 5/12/11 Project Updates :: May 12, 2011 The demolition and haul out of materials and debris from the five buildings on the future Medical Mart site has been completed. The 113 Building was demolished in April, the last structure to be demolished at the corner of St. Clair and Ontario. In three months, crews demolished the Justice Center parking deck, the Chicago Title and County Annex buildings, the Sportsmans Restaurant, and the 113 Building. Soldier pile installation has been completed around the former 113 Building while backfilling, lagging and tie-backs continue. Demolition is also proceeding on schedule on the Convention Center and Malls B and C. On the north side of Lakeside Avenue, Mall C roof demolition is 95% complete. Interior demolition in existing Exhibit Halls C and D on the lower level of Mall C is roughly 95% complete. Demolition of the loading dock connection at Lakeside Avenue and the East Stair Tower began earlier in the week. The balance of remaining demolition work on Mall B is located on the southeast corner of the project. Continued demolition of the topping slab and 4’ interstitial sand volume is approximately 85% complete. The highly-visible metal sheeting project along St. Clair Avenue continues moving to the west.
  19. I wonder what effect the innerbelt reconstruction will have on companies in downtown? Are the suburbs using that as a negative for downtown?
  20. I'm fine with the state trying to get as much as they can. This work stoppage is a stunt
  21. Per the discussion on where the social hub of the games should be, (depending on the retail mix) I vote for Uptown. It will be new, shiny, and it will bring people to the embarrassment of cultural riches this little burg has :) And they can get drunk
  22. Construction Update - 5/5/2011 Project Updates :: May 5, 2011 Demolition of the 1964 Public Auditorium addition was completed earlier this week as crews demolished the last remaining structure. The balance of remaining demolition on the project is contained in the southeast corner of the job site. More than 95% of the demolition is complete on most areas of the job site, including Mall C roof demolition, Exhibit Halls C and D on the lower levels, and the Mall B roof demolition. The demolition of the topping slab is 85% completed. Backfilling of the future Medical Mart building location is underway. Soldier pile installation has been completed around the 113 Building. http://www.clevelandmedicalmartonline.com/clevelandmedicalmart/index.cfm/news/construction-update-552011/
