La Nouvelle Orleans
I work at the Sonesta on weekends (still....cant give it up yet) and they said August is always the worst month. It got even worse since Katrina, but only slightly. What you have now is a post Katrina August about a month after the height of the oil spill news hysteria. So it is a bad August, from the hotel and bartenders view, but not much worse than a typical August.

1 Year in Chicago
please don't take this the wrong way, but I hate you. (DAMNIT, I WANT TO GO HOME!!!!) Swing by the Pepper Canister in river north and look for bartenders Rebecca ("Becks") or Tracy ("Crazy British chick") and tell them Patrick from New Orleans says hello

La Nouvelle Orleans
Well, summer is the bizzaro winter for the south. Outside is too oppressive, so best to stay indoors. Convention business really dries up after June 1st until October..otherwise known as Hurricane season. Even though the new job is in Houston, I still go back to NOLA every weekend. Thanks for the call, jerk. :)

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
And just a reminder, this is a private development, so the county really does not dictate when projects can start. They have gotten tax breaks, but it is still a private developer.

ODOT Policy Discussion
So how does this work, does ODOT do it for the whole state, or ODOT does some of it, and local governments do others?

ODOT Policy Discussion
So is ODOT in northeast Ohio just worthless?

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
^it may not be a tourist destination like NYC or Disney world, but it is a viable weekend get away for a huge chunk of the population of the country. I forget the numbers, but doesn't something like 40% of the country live within 300 miles of Columubs?

Cleveland: Hotels, Conventions, and Tourism News & Info
I think it is a bad thing. If marketing the convention center being shifted to MMPI does not relieve any budget outlays on Positively Cleveland, it must mean that Positively Cleveland has spent no money marketing the current center. If that is the case, they don't deserve a lot of money to begin with.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
They were in the Landmark office towers. SW took over BPs floors and management responsibilities when we vacated. That research bldg (or whatever it's called) was added and expanded after. Sherwin has been at that site since the late 1800s. They also have offices in Tower City, as well as all over the world. Lets take it to PM if you have more points to make.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
My brother works for Sherwin, and he says that the thought there is Sherwin was there before the terminal tower, they will be there after :)

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
when i started at Ohio State the slogan was "Columbus:more than you have dreamed" Which for most Americans is factually accurate. That is not a slam on Columbus, when was the last time you dreamed about Dallas?

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
Here is a list of cities that have changed their names over the course of history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_city_name_changes Interesting that two Ohio cities, Cincinnati and Dublin were on the list. I should visit Aquinnah, Mass

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
Is changing the name of the city an option that at least deserves some discussion?

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
I have to admit, I did not know wrath arcane either, but I do now. Wow, CLE based and sold all over the world. A W E S O M E ! Where is the actual storefront going to be? (sorry if that has been posted, but I could not find it)

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
^From my 7 years to get my 4 year degree in Columbus, I can say it would be nice to say "I am from Columbus", and not have to say "I am from Columbusohio" That is not the whole reson, but I would suspect many locals would love to drop having to say which Columbus they were from.

Congratulations. When you get to Cleveland you can thank us by getting involved and making the city better by having you in it.

Columbus: Re-branding & Identity
If Columbus was just the original city, containing neighborhoods like the Short North, German Village, campus, it would be Austin, an awesome urban city. But Columbus is all of that, plus its Easton, its Crossroads, its Polaris. All good things individually, but when you add up the parts they don't work as a cohesive narrative, in my opinion. If I were re-branding the city, I would focus on the city core. Consider the far flung attractions like Easton to be regional attractions, but focus on the city.

Cleveland: Downtown Office Buildings Updates
Correct me if I am wrong, but this seems to be one of the first office real estate transactions in which the seller did not take a bath on the sale. Is this a sign that maybe the market has stabilized?
