  1. well, at least it was not South Carolina officials holding the shovels
  2. IIRC, the way they are going to prevent a landslide was to remove a great deal of the earth from the hillside. Do I have it wrong?
  3. Is this on the land that is considered unstable? If so, won't they have to pretty much bulldoze this farm when the money to stabilize the hillside comes in?
  4. What are we thinking, will the city be a compliment to the work started by the county / MMPI and Parkworks, or will it turn into a turf war? I am hoping it will be collaborative, and this commission will be made up of local corporations, who may wind up sponsoring parts of the parks like what happened in Millenium Park.

Would that mean that Cuyahoga county would be paying 1.25%?
  6. They just feel threatened. For so long they have felt popular for bashing Cleveland, if it becomes uncool, gasp, they might be uncool.
  7. K&D may take a pass at those buildings, but someone will see this article and take the chance
  8. Congrats on the new job and welcome!
  9. This is a really small thing, but it will be nice to not have to not have to explain that Playhouse Square does not contain the Cleveland Play House anymore.
  10. Anyone have a pic of it? I cant remember it thanks
  11. Strap, a developer friend in Chicago said clubs and entertainment venues are nice, but all the profit is in parking.

I read on Perez Hilton that after Rue's last stroke Betty White gave her a card that said "I hope you die, so I can be the last Golden Girl" (it was a joke obviously) Per Perez, it was Rue's favorite card. Poor thing

^I am really not sure. The plan now is to do nothing. I will have extra relocation money for the next few months, so it will cover a cheap place in Houston. I actually had a pretty good engineering job in Houston, working for a military contractor. But, I was hired in to bring in automation and to think of new ideas to reduce costs. But, since it is a military contractor, I suspect I was only hired in so they could say they hired someone to bring in automation and reduce costs. Military contracts are structured as cost plus. Whatever it costs us to build plus a percentage profit. So, I have had a job where I really didn't have to do anything, and only worked 4 10 hour days a week. I wish I could just relax and enjoy it. But, I really need the challenge. I have been assisting in a very very very very limited way solutions for the BP pipeline mess. It lead to a job offer from a company I worked for right out of college. I am looking forward to the job, not looking forward to living in Houston. I am going to try to commute back to NOLA as many weekends as possible.

At the risk of being permanantly banned from this board, I am happy to announce that I have taken a Senior Engineering job in (ba ba ba bum) the oil pipeline industry. The job will be based in Houston, but I plan on being there as little as possible. For now, I am holding on to my house in NOLA, and considering some possiblities for what to do with it (lease it out?, bring in a roommate?, vacation rental?) This is all part of the grand plan to make enough money to open my bar in Chicago....some day.

  16. aren't they saying it will be connected to Higbees, or did I read it wrong? If they go with that area, it will have better, ahem, connectivity to E 4th
  17. so, the casino is going in that triangular gap by the landmark building?
  18. I like the view in the first pic, thanks
  19. ^Check out the Detroit Shoreway neigheborhood as well. There are threads for Gordon Square and Battery Park which are both parts of D.S. It is centered around W. 65th and Detroit, so it is just west of OC, along the lake
  20. Does anyone know if it is legal for the school district to offer teachers buyouts, like they did at the automotive companies?
  21. if you are looking at locations on the west side, check out Detroit Shoreway. If you are not familiar with the neighborhood, check out the Gordon Square and battery park threads. I worked in the short north for years at Mac's. That stetch of Detroit reminds me most of the Short North along high street, for its mix of restaurants, pubs, and creative junk :)
  22. ^I get most of your point, except for the medical mart one.
  23. Was there a shelter before, or was it just a sign?
