  1. ^I get your point, but I also think this boulevard should strive to take as few homes as possible, and try to use zoning that would enhance, stabalize, and prep the residential clusters along the path for growth.
  2. Lets keep the converstion relevent to the topic, and refrain from arguments or calling out members of the forum.
  3. I know people who were looking at the Uptown before the credit crisis, and at that time they could not make it work because of the extensive renovations needed at the time. My guess is the company that owns it now are still hoping to sell, and are probably doing minimal repairs to make it more attractive for sale.
  4. ^I am not sure if there are any published plans on what they will do with the building, but it would be great if it could be reused
  5. Thanks, I think I just chose not to believe it. Well, maybe that was the last page of a bad chapter, and a glorious new one has started.
  6. ^Wow, thanks! I was just hoping to spare the wrecking ball for the playhouse and Podiatry building if possible. (I am not sure, did the podiatry building already get leveled?)
  7. I am not sure I understand the question. Do you think the lack of development on Euclid Ave as opposed to Peachtree street is due to too much zoning, too little? Do you think zoning is the biggest challenge for Euclid Ave?
  8. Anyone know about this guy? Any success with adaptive reuse?
  9. If you see something wrong in another post, a friendly correction is always welcome, snarky ones aren't. For instance, Allan Freed did not actually coin the term. It was a blues reference since the '20's, and Leo Mintz used the term in the late 1940's to sell R&B records at his store, Record Rendezvous. Mintz and Freed became friends, and Freed soon moved from Akron to Cleveland in the late 40s. In 1951 he went to WJW and started the Moondog Rock & Roll house party. Many DJs were playing R&B across the country, but Freed was the only one to call it Rock -n- Roll. I agree with Murray Hill, the Rock Hall should be leading the fight for preservation. Do we have a contact?
  10. So far the two tenants signed are not for profit companies that don't sell anything. The purpose all along was to have a facility for medical device makers to show their goods. It's like having a community college in a mall, it keeps the lights on, but does not add to the shopping experience.
  11. I see that after the city and state came together to hatch a plan to keep Continental in CLE, and after the new company says it will keep a hub in CLE, Dennis feels the time is right to step up and take credit: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/05/post_277.html
  12. Back when I wanted to be an environmental engineer (a LONG time ago) I did a summer doing concrete testing. There were 3 main criteria I would test for. 1. The time since it was batched. You would have a set number of minutes (60, 90, 120) based on the contract to get the concrete from where the truck was loaded up until the time it was poured 2. A "slump" test. Kind of like the name, you would fill a cylinder of concrete from the truck then lift the cylinder off, and measure how far the concrete slumped down. 3. An "air" test, it measured how much air was in the mix. Imagine a pressure cooker type pot. You would measure how much air you could insert into the sealed pot. Along with these tests, samples were kept and should have been broken at intervals like, 90, 180 and 360 days (or whatever is spelled out in the contract) The point of all of this, when I was doing it the contractor used to beg me to approve concrete that was either too late, didn't slump right, or didn't pass the air. I would have bosses who were "friends" with the contractor who would try to pressure me into signing off on stuff. If I wanted a career in the field I probably would have considered doing it, but I hated that job, so I stuck to the letter of the law. If there was a problem with the concrete on this project I would look to the relationship between the contractor and the testing company.
  13. What is the potential upside of the United Continental merger for CLE? Even if it is not likely, could it be possible it gets more NuUnited business? If NuUnited reduces the number of gates, will Southwest be likely to snatch them up?
  14. Here is the rink in winter, then summer
  15. With MMPI joining up with Parkworks and Cleveland Public Art as well at the Landscape Arch's from WA, I am sure what they come up with will be spectacular. I really think we can do something that will be a draw to the whole community, if it is done right Here are some pics of Millenium Park. My guess is if you took off the band shell, the size the the Peristyle, restaurant/bean, and the Crown fountains are about the same size as Mall A, B, and C
  16. ^you could turn the rink into those courts in the summer, or anything you wanted to
  17. Well, the most popular attraction at Millenium park is the "bean", but Cloudgate sculpture. Its on the roof of the restaurant, as well as a portion of the lawn for the band shell. I am pretty sure if you can have fine dining without disturbing people, you can have a noisy convention center.
  18. ^a very large parking garage? What is your point?
  19. Millenium Park in Chicago (which looks like it will be a model) had the park grille, in winter they have a large rink for ice skating, in the summer it becomes a large patio for the restaurant, and on the side they have some recreational things like bag toss. Along with the band shell, Crowne fountain, Peristyle (?sp - semicircular greek columns), the gardens and the "bean" it is one of the attractions of the park I proposed somewhere that part of the ground floor of Public hall be made into a restaurant, and have the rink/patio/recreation area go up next to it
  20. Anyone affiliated with parkworks here? It seems like a natural fit.
  21. The port is planning to develop the land between the stadium and NCH. Is it garenteed, no, but it is something you can keep an eye on. You could try to get in on the ground floor and negotiate a lease early. Since there is little in the way of bars and restaurants nearby, or residents for that matter, getting a license should be relatively easy
  22. its also a great tool for Alumni giving.

All I would ask for in return is that now that you are a Clevelander, get involved and make the city better because of your contribution. Its a great city, that is just getting better!
