Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
There is a certain irony to this whole thing If you keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome, it is one definition of insanity. Cleveland has lofty planning goals and ideals. As soon as any developer spends any money, the lofty goals and ideals are thrown into the trash. So, what is the point? I propose the next time someone in the city proposes design standards zoning, they will need to drive to the new mental health hospital for treatment. (Taking the Healthline would be stupid, because you have to walk over the pretty green lawn and acres of parking) *rant over

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
The addition of a downtown convention center will be a major boost to local restaurants, mostly downtown. I also think the market is growing locally. People hear that we actually have a restaurant scene, so newbies may want to try them all out. Either way, worrying about having too many good places is a good problem to have. My personal opinion is that we are not saturated yet.

Can we agree to shelve conversations about taking public spaces away for development until the surface paking lots downtown have been developed. (I like mall, and the square, for the record)

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Is $121MM enough to build a new federal building? I have no clue how much a building like this would cost today, especially with post OKC/9-11 security. But, the current building is on a really desireable intersection...

Punch - Not sure if you haven't been in town lately, but there hasn't been an ice rink on PS for at least 5 years now and possibly more I do think your ideas about creative uses & programming have some merit though. Yeah, never was one for ice skating, so I have and haven't missed it.

Random thoughts ^Well, MMPI keeps using Millenium Park as a reference for what can be done. I worked there a lot during the construction, and the main draws are the bean, the Park Grill, and the band shell and the Crown fountain The Park Grill is especially busy in summer Maybe part of Public Hall can renovated as a restaurant, and a portion of Mall B can be used as a large patio/beer garden in the summer. In the winter, like MP, the beer garden could be converted to a larger ice rink than is currently on PS. With proper scheduling of events, like Friday after work concerts, and the conventions, it could be a hub of activity. Its not too far away from E.4th and W. 6th entertainment districs. While I am at it, maybe an iconic sculpture (free stamp?) can be moved to Mall C, since some of the lake views will be blocked from the street level, if you walk up to the sculpture, you will see all of the lake views. Our band shell could be music hall. It is indoors, but that could just help the area be a 12 month draw.

NOLA (Part 3): Garden District
The reason I used Tremont as a local example is because it has been a rapidly gentrifying area, it has a large "next genreation" public housing subsidized development next door, and it has some spotty parts. Here is what residents say about the area http://www.trulia.com/voices/Home_Buying/We_are_looking_at_the_Lower_Garden_Irish_Channel_a-30946 Here is the neighborhood assoiciation www.irishchannel.org Here is the preservation resource center's website on the area http://www.prcno.org/neighborhoods/brochures/IrishChannel.pdf I said the area is rapidly gentrifying, meaning it is still a work in progress. But it is a safe urban neighborhood, and will soon be the most desirable place to live if you like being in a walkable neighborhood, with under $500,000 to spend on a house.

NOLA (Part 3): Garden District
just giving you grief. Imagine the IC as the Tremont of NOLA. It has rapidly gentrified, nearly light speed at NOLA's pace. Just to go more into detail, the area was one of the few places on that side of the city that did not flood during the storm. It was the "sliver on the river". Now I hear it used to be horrifically bad, but it really has changed ALOT since the storm. It seems like a lot of people who first move to NOLA like that area. Magazine street there really reminded me of my beloved Chicago and CLE. Like I said, you had to move quick this past Autumn if you wanted a house there.

Have you seen those areas in person? Ahem. The area you are speaking of, the Irish Channel, is probably the fastest appreciating real estate in the city. There were two houses I wanted to buy there, but I was outbid both times.
