  2. I want a happy thread, its been a while, so I want to ask forumers two questions. What is your favorite thing (development, natural formation, institution) that you brag about Cleveland to first time visitors? The second is what future development are you most proud of? And if any CLE newbies are on the thread, what has most pleasently surprised you? (MODS, IF YOU FEEL THIS WOULD BE BETTER BEING PART OF ANOTHER THREAD SUCH AS *I LOVE CLEVELAND* PLEASE GO AHEAD AND MOVE IT)

    This article is about 4 years old, but it may bring people up to speed on the southern alignment vs. northern alignment ideas. One thing that is constant in this debate, every time ODOT revisits this proposal the worse it is for Cleveland

  9. I was hoping that Vivo would re-open because I thought it would benenfit from the restaurant row of E. 4th. But it is nice to see Euclid Ave getting another boost as E. 4th is having another spin off development. How is Caddy Ranch doing lately?

    How did you conclude that not wanting a poorly designed and poorly located bridge would make me want the current poorly designed, poorly located and npn-functional bridge. ODOT should realize that roads and bridges can not purely be designed as car conduits. For the dozens of reasons why this idea is poor, read this thread

    Just a quickie on this...ODOT needs to curb the senseless tree cutting along...trees which pose no safety/obstruction problem of any sort. They help reduce noise more effectively than barriers alone, as well as suck up some of the noxious highway fumes. Sorry, I'm not impressed with their efficiency to do very much.     S.C. this is not a traffic flow issue. We dont care how fast you can transport people out of the city. We care about what scar you will leave on our city. As the largest metro area, contributing the most tax revenue in the state, we demand better than nifty wide road shoulders.

    ODOT's vision for the innerbelt is slightly grander than poo. It may be a Cleveland thing, but the bridges mean something to this community. Perhaps it is the idea of industrial might, that may be a memory at this point. Perhaps because this community will always partition itself as West siders and Eastsiders, and the bridges are what joins us. Whatever the reason, our bridges are a lot more than just a way to get from Legecy Village to Crocker Park. Maybe that is why Columbus does not get it.
  20. This is one of the threads I bring back from time to time. In 2005I hoped that we might just get to 15,000 people downtown by 2015, which seemed like wishful thinking. Back in 2005, there was no E. 4th (not really), no avenue district, most of the developments were isolated from each other. Its nice to review how far we have come in a short time, and it gives us some hope for the next few years. Now, saying that I would like to direct this discussion towards a review of how recent developments and new residents have added to a cohesive, lively 24/7 downtown. And in the future, what is needed to help continue this growth. Retail is part of this, but lets keep that discussion focused on downtown Cleveland today and going into the future.

  22. OK, maybe I can spell this out. In this thread we are talking about increasing the downtown population so that it becomes a bona fide residential option for people. When speaking about a retail mix is on topic as long as it is in context of the broader converstaion of the unique challenges and opportunities of downtown Cleveland and its ability to attract new residents. -Talk of Grocery stores in Girard and Niles OFF TOPIC -Which suburbs have malls OFF TOPIC -The value of lifestyle centers OFF TOPIC -Why downtown malls failed 10 years ago OFF TOPIC They are all fine topics of conversation, but perhaps they they are tangents to this converstaion that bring this and several other threads off topic. Use the search button to find an appropriate thread.
