Cleveland: Innerbelt News
Just a thought, not sure if its been thrown out there. As an alternative, would it be a feasible, or even a good idea, to spend the money on making a better (safer?) connection between Tremont and Ohio City rather than adding a ped lane to the bridge? They are right next to each other, yet I know people in both neighborhoods who wouldn't dare walk between the two. In addition to connecting the two neighborhoods, it would ideally facilitate the Tremont to Downtown connection. I haven't looked at any maps or dug up any hard facts on this, just throwing the idea out there.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Although I hate the tactic, it sounds like its time to hit some people with the "wishy-washy" label.

So is it now a race between how fast the AG files a lawsuit and how fast a contract for the work can be signed, or is there a chance that the AG will say no to the lawsuit?

Money From Interstate Blue Signs Could Fund 3C Rail You've seen them while you're driving, the blue signs before interstate ramps, telling you there's food, fuel or lodging available. "I just used one to get off here. I looked, and I was running pretty low on fuel," said Enmartz Anderson, fueling his car at the Sunoco station at the State route 42 and Interstate 70 interchange. Since the early '90s, all the money generated from those signs went to a private company. "ODOT put into place a contract where we have an outside vendor that was responsible for replacing the signs, going after companies that would advertise and executing the contracts," said Scott Varner, deputy director of the Ohio Department of Transportation. "All of those expenses were the companies'. There was no expense to the state." Two years ago, the state negotiated new contracts for those signs and recouped a large yearly profit. http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2010/sep/08/3/money-generated-interstate-blue-signs-could-fund-3-ar-226803/ Something in the first comment is bothering me, and its something I've heard before. He's saying that Ohio will have to kick in an additional 175 million plus overruns for the construction, but if I recall correctly the initial proposal was for 575 million which already included a 30% contingency for overruns. The government basically gave us everything except for our contingecy money, correct?

I felt the same way initially, but (according to wiki) the State holds 3,400 and the Palace holds 2,700. If they schedule things well, we should still be able to have bigger touring shows in town.

I think some people saying Ohio has an $8 billion budget deficit and that the $17 million 3C subsidy is too much to handle are using marketing tricks to affect people. A $17 million subsidy isn't that much in an $8,000 million budget shortfall. It affects the same people who, when they see something for $2.99, say it costs $2(I know its not everyone, but I know a disturbing number of people who think this way).

Peak Oil
Here's a thought. If any of you are car guys, you know how a tiny little weight on your wheel can be the difference between it being balanced or not. How much oil do we have to suck out of the ground before we throw the earth off balance. J/K :) have a good holiday weekend.

Maybe not pay for it, but would it be feasible for the city to facilitate a deal between multiple property owners and one or more cleaning companies to reduce the cost for individual owners? We've got a lot of stuff coming up, and it'd be nice to have clean buildings (Casino, MM/CC, RRHoF Inductions, Gay Games, etc.)

More Money For The 3C Passenger Rail Millions of dollars in federal stimulus funds are going to support both the 3C Passenger Rail plan and a project to bring streetcars to Cincinnati. Now even more money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act may be used on a rail station in Columbus for the project. The wheels are rolling to put a passenger train in Ohio, connecting Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati. The station would be located in Downtown, near the north end of the Columbus Convention Center. Inside, businesses, who say customers are still down from years past, can hardly wait. http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2010/aug/25/more-money-three-c-train-ar-208031/

Another thing to consider is raw materials. Do we have enough of the materials (besides silicon) to make a ton of PV cells (cheaply)? Same thing goes for hybrid/electric cars. We don't have enough rare earth magnets or lithium to build an electric car for everyone. At least not without invading Chile and Bolivia (lithium) and going to war with China (magnets) :) I'm still banking on supercapacitors.

ODOT: Kasich Has No Influence On 3C Rail Plans Agency Will Not Wait Until Election To Continue Project Spending The 3C rail project, connecting Ohio's largest cities by passenger train, has become a dividing line in the race for governor. More than two months away from the election, Governor Ted Strickland and Republican challenger John Kasich are on opposite sides on the 3C rail debate, which proposes to provide passenger rail service between Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus and Cleveland. Last week, in an interview for NBC 4's The Spectrum, Kasich told NBC 4's Colleen Marshall that he will stop the 3C rail project if he is elected in November. Kasich described the current 3C plan as "one of the dumbest ideas I've ever heard." http://www2.nbc4i.com/news/2010/aug/16/5/odot-kasich-has-no-influence-3c-rail-plans-ar-195118/ Even if Kasich is elected, can he stop this, or will there be too much pressure from Washington?

I very much prefer the unified idea. The split idea doesn't even leave much of a view open. And can they please not plant stupid tall grasses everywhere so that people can at least use the lawn. :)

Couldn't they just put a 2nd can at the stops? More space for garbage and the pickup routes don't need to change.

CRACC (seriously, is that a joke?) says that the Cleveland medical mart could be a disaster on the level of the gulf oil spill. Wow, thats a hell of a stretch. Some people are saying it will fail because of cost overruns, so we should re-evaluate everything. Other people are saying it will be a failure if we don't get to market first. Who's right, and what do we do?

From this pic in the landmark commission agenda it looks like the old building is coming down too. I guess a lot is better than a condemned structure.
