  1. I'm assuming that you and your neighbors moved to West Chester BEFORE I-75 was built? It was built to accommodate development that was already there? Development follows infrastructure, not the other way around. The infrastructure had to be there first. Redevelopment in OTR couldn't be fully realized without the streetcar being there first.
  2. What is phase 2 of the transit center?
  3. Nah, he is unfortunately talking about Seattle's new light rail line.
  4. What about the recently studied Subway extensions(specifically completing the Walnut Street subway)? If the streetcar is built, wouldn't subway construction close the Walnut Street running portion? Would the streetcar prohibit this extension?

Yay!!! Darke County!!! Thanks for showing off Versailles...
  6. Looks like a great town! I agree about the courthouse being built into the block...very nice.
  7. Yay! the home of wally-world (go-cart place)!
  8. I've always loved the view with the "skyline" and the hills in the background. It is truly a pretty town.

No love for Greenville? ;) I like Sydney and Troy as well, but I submit Bellefontaine and Urbana as two of my favorites. I also like some of the southeastern river towns, like Marietta and Steubenville.
  10. This is from: http://www.gamesbids.com/english/bids/usa.shtml
  11. I could have just stumbled across my future residence...what a great building and great location! :wink2:
  12. I think Louisville, Columbus, and Cleveland were supposed to have events. It was supposed to be centered in Cincy, but it was kind of an Ohio/whole area thing.
  13. Versailles, OH (Darke county) is also pronounced ver-sales. It is a really nice town though, with a great downtown. I will take some picks to post sometime...

Wow, some crazy stuff on that corner. It would be interesting to see that expand a bit around that whole area...
  15. I like the photo that shows both the fountain and Carew Tower. Nice work...
  16. Nice pictures! Of course I am biased, but I really like downtown Greenville more than most other towns this size. There are places to eat and do, and it is usually relatively busy with people and cars. Most of it is occupied. It is just a pleasant place. Also, the first and second courthouses of Darke county was on public square (the circle), and it was the center of town. Later, the city hall was there... I think I posted these before but I like these postcards. These don't show it the best, but there used to be a trolley that ran down broadway and around the old city hall. Some hotographs (that I do not have right now) show it much better but...
  17. What are the two taller buildings? Are they empty or is there something in them? I find the fact that a town that size (well it used to have more people but...) has a couple of buildings that tall facinating. It is neat to think of what that downtown could have looked like if the town wouldn' have died.
  18. You gotta love that Tecumseh Building.
  19. Maybe you're thinking of Union City? It's been many years since I've been there, but I remember it as a larger community with more commercial buildings. perhaps he is, but UC's "bussiness district" is almost entirely on the Indiana side a block from State Line street (on Columbia Ave). Union City is much larger than this town, though.

Hello I have been lurking around for some time. This is a very interesting site. It is interesting to find many with similar interests than I. I am intrigued with local history, mainly relating to cities and the buildings within. It is nice to see that others are concerned with preserving Ohio's urban areas and towns, as well as improving them. I would like to compliment the excellent photography posted here and the good information. I thought I would introduce myself in a thread about my hometown, Greenville, Ohio.
